Brené Brown explained the difference between taking pleasure in someone else's pain and taking pleasure in someone else's joy, and how it's important to surround yourself with people who do the latter. The best-selling author also chatted about joining TikTok, her new HBO Max series "Atlas of the Heart," and gave advice on how to deal with your emotions when it feels like the world is falling apart.

It was wonderful watching Ellen struggle through her own discomfort with being vulnerable and open about her emotions, just being in Brene's presence. She didn't try and hide behind her humour really at all. That was inspiring and relatable for me.

I love how Dr Brown replied with, "action" when Ellen asked about ideas for managing "feeling everything." I myself identify as an empath and for years I have spiritually bypassed taking action. Things really improved for me when I started studying anxiety and, later on, mindfulness and especially the neuroscience of mindfulness. Taking those actions, with additional support from a mental wellbeing expert, was a real gamechanger. What shifted mainly was my tendency to somehow "blame" others and situations for how I was feeling. I understood what was happening and learned how to self-regulate. Yes, even when it's "energy" you feel, it's your brain and the rest of your nervous system that interpret it, and you usually don't know it's happening so you're always "on edge." I can't recommend taking action strongly enough. And yes, I still identify as an intuitive and an empath, but the anxiety and panic attacks have practically vanished.

Yes! Be in your Joy. Be a Standard to other. For me a real teacher teaches out of experience. So other can See you and the way how you live full of Joy and then you inspire them I or not. Because there are also people they realy like to suffer because they get something out of it. Maybe that Sounds hard but I realy know such people. They realy habe to ask themself " how does it Serve me?" Ans to be very honest.

The 'freude freude' concept Brene talks about is actually one of the four Buddist Brahmaviras. It is called 'moodhita', finding joy in others happiness. It is a Sanskrit and Pali word that has no English equivalent. Moodhita is followed by most practising Buddhists.

Hi Pipps, -just an aside- living in Germany I believe it should be Freudenfreude. Freude is the German word for joy. Schaden translates into damage and "Schadenfreude" is actually the German word for malicious joy. Freudenfreude (which is actually not being used in everyday language, but perfectly understood) would be Joyjoy -joyaboutjoy. I find it so cute how the pronounce the German words. Love it
