Is the first season only the 1st book, I guess I assumed since it was a series that it would intergrade the books some, since it would be easier to handle multiple storylines at once, at least not just focus on one at a time. Can't assume they will get enough seasons to do them all, and the the later books, it would be best to combine... maybe even incorporate some of the other series set in the same 'world.' I have been hoping for someone to adapt a series like this (what took so long!), I am really interested in how well they can do it, hope it works out!

It's not way older. The Duke and I came out in June 2000 and the first Gossip Girl book came out in April 2002. But yes Bridgerton did come out first.

They changed who "A" was in pretty little liars to keep the mistery, for example, it's possible that the same will be done to the Bridgertons

@@hekate5561 There are no ethnic Ancient Egyptians still around, and they had a closer genetic affinity to Europeans and near Easterners than black Africans. There's been no recent movie with white native Americans. Point is that POC still get their history and culture centred around their ethnic groups and white people aren't forcibly included in their movies. Also skin colour is one of the most visible traits and typically connects a person to a particular ethnicity, culture, or experience or groups of these. Correct representation matters.

I am used to watching a movie and having the people more or less look like me, so why should I begrudge someone that? There are thousands of pages and hours of documentaries for that. You don't watch a movie, especially a romantic comedy, for realism, you watch it for escapism.

Look at the way movies and TV like Parasite, A Suitable Boy, I May Destroy You Mulan, or Black Panther are praised and celebrated because of their ethnic makeup. The reality is that there there isn't any valid examples of whitewashing in recent years that come close to blackwashing, just admit that. Can you think of a black or East Asian or Indian historical figure, a character from a legend, myth, or other work of cultural prominence being played by a white person, or where the society and background characters are diverse? It's so strange how unaware you are. If you were paying attention to the media, to the commentariat, to the politicians, to celebrities, to social media (esp. twitter which has massive influence), to academia and other people with influence you would see that POC representation (including manner of representation), diversity, and inclusion are top of the agenda - and notably the promotion of their sense of pride has become a crucial element in the arts and wider culture. They certainly do care about portrayal and recognition of their ethnic achievements and cultural heritage. To dismiss the impact of entertainment and culture is ridiculous. It's hugely emphasised in many academic fields, it shapes norms, mindsets, perceptions, etc. You are willing to see how a black girl may be happy to see herself reflected but ignore how white children will never see their history portrayed as their history. They will grow up feeling like the only ones who can't make positive contributions or have a rich culture unless POC are present. Also many people will come to assume the casting is reflective of the demographic makeup of a society in history if they are consistently exposed to such a portrayal throughout their lifetime, and especially if other cultures and societies are faithfully represented.

This isn't "History" or a historical story and was written in the year 2000 ... Bridgeton uses the Regency period to show the Vanity and caprice and gossip that is very relevant in todays society. Its a reflection of us dressed as gossiping dandies. The same way we retell the stories of Shakespeare or the Odyssey in different times and places. Art has always obliterated History because that's its Job to retell our stories in different ways.

It also is a romantic comedy making fun of our own narcissistic vanity of this age but using a historical period as a vehicle...its been done thousands of times. There have been plenty of successful adaptations of Shakespeare using a multiracial cast and non specific gender and toying with time setting simply because good writing is timeless and beyond the cares of race and gender and period. As for the casting it was employed because Queen Charlotte was at that time considered Multiracial ( they cast her perfectly in Bridgerton with Golda Rosheuvel as she even looks like her portraits and is of mixed race ) Charlotte has long been considered as having historical racial lineage to Moors and Black Portuguese royalty ...she was considered England's first Black Queen and was made fun of in her own time because of it ( do your homework !!!! even if it cant be proven its been rumor for centuries!!!!!!!!! ) and the director and writer loved the idea of playing with that concept that the highest women in society was black...so they had fun with it. Shogun written by James Clavell also used a shipwrecked red haired English white Navigator in 16th century Japan that was given Samurai status ( a "Samurai" just means "Of High Class" and belonging to a family of lineage .... I know this because my wife is Japanese and if I marry into her family ...that makes me "Samurai" as I then belong to her "Caste" even though I couldn't cut my way out of a paper bag with a butter knife ) ..and Shogun was based in some part on a true historical situation of English and Portuguese ships in Japan in that period . There are plenty of wonderful adaptations of historical books that are cast accurate of the time period but those were written by Jane Austin Elizabeth Gaskell, The Bronte Sisters, Dickens and not by a woman who wrote a series of books in the 21st century making a gossip parody of our own time. The Casting is a risk and no creative endeavor is worth anything without risk and even all those adaptations of historic writers use aspects of our modern age and are not historically perfect ( like Captain Wentworth kissing Anne Elliot on a public street at the end of Persuasion ...didnt happen in the book and Jane Austin would have rolled over in her grave! ) but we accept that. The only nonsense is the racially charged outrage on this thread that seems to want to take away the creative freedom of artists and writers and directors to create a "FUN ADAPTATION" ... if you don't like it before seeing it then that's your own flawed judgment and ignorance and only you have to live with it.

And it's been so long ago, I forget a lot what had happened in the book series, so I'm doing a reread before the show comes out. Though I'm sure there will be places where the show and books differ. I'm glad they are tackling a different book for each season/series of this show. It will be fun to see the characters grow and change as the show tackles the ever changing timeline from the books. I can't wait to see the one based on Colin's book, that one is my favorite. Probably because Penelope is my favorite character.

So no, other cultures were already "diversified" in movies and I really couldn't care less what an actor in a movie looks like. Skin colours aren't the only or even the gravest inaccuracies in "historical" movies. If you want real history, open an actual history book.

The similarities between 2 elements don't imply the order of their creation. The plot within this trailer is very close to the one of GG. I understand that it might be one of many storylines from the books but the average viewer is supposed to be hooked by the promise of Gossip Girl in the Regency era England.

Actually the books came out 2 years apart but yes The Duke and I did come out first. I think most people are just more familiar with GG and are making the obvious comparisons because the tv show was so popular. I don't think anyone is saying it was copied.
