Well done on designing and building the ebike motor, looks great! After watching the video, I have a couple questions about the build. 1. What is the idler gear and spring attached to? The aluminum PCB part? 2. The motor sprocket welded/attached to the bike sprocket, was there already clearance on your bike for the second sprocket or did you have to make modifications? Thanks.

I've changed wattage from 300 to 1000W in Vest but with no effect. It is weak - i mean when the bike stays on ground motor can't even push the bike (without me on the seat).

I also built a mid drive system ebike but using scrap parts. But the motor is 5 times bigger and is 2000w 84v Has freewheel on motor & the bottom bracket crank what is homemade It has cooling mods cooling fans & more. It's very powerful & fast I use it like a motorbike and the motor heats up very fast. That's my biggest problem with it. So how does that small motor handle the heat. I can imagine the size of the motor it will be useless on a bike. With more voltage I can't imagine after 20 minutes of constant used it be ready to melt🔥 There's a reason why people don't use these motors on ebikes. But the motor is running with 20v hate may not be a problem. At that low voltage I'm surprised it barely moves without you pedalling. If it had the power You can't anyway because it has no freewheel on the bottom bracket crank. So you need to pedal at the same speed. So legs don't get ripped off LOL. Apart from that you've done amazing job. Good quality I wish I had the machine to do stuff like that. At the minute I struggle with my hands. Takes me days hand making simple stuff. What can be done in minutes on a machine.

This bike was really easy to assemble ukposts.infoUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.

Whats the total gear reduction?
@DAZprojects
@DAZprojects Рік тому
It's approximately 1 to 12 at the cranks, the reduction at the wheel depends on the gear you're in
@MrHamncheez
@MrHamncheez Рік тому
@@DAZprojects So assuming an average pedal RPM of 80, the motor is typically spinning around 1000 RPMs?
@DAZprojects
@DAZprojects Рік тому
@@MrHamncheez yes, infact the gear reduction should ideally be lower, the perfect one should be 1:20 but i didn't have enough space to fit it. However after building it i came across a strange type of cycloidal drive which gives huge reduction in a tiny space while needing only 2 components so remaining super simple. Maybe in the future I'll make a video update changing to this type of reduction
@MrHamncheez
@MrHamncheez Рік тому
@@DAZprojects I've played around in fusion 360 with a hypoid gear. Its possible to get 40:1 reduction in a single stage at high efficiency. Since they are also a type of bevel gear you can reorient the motor, allowing space for a longer, narrower motor

@TechGoop
@TechGoop Рік тому
Maybe not $2k, but i don't think it's going to cost $300 or less. The CNC machined parts he had custom made will be a minimum of around $100.00. Then you still have the battery cost, the speed controller and the motor. I'm guessing more like $400-500. He obviously knows how to design parts, that's a bonus.
@sugmirichards8166
@sugmirichards8166 Рік тому
@@TechGoop yeah but this platform is basically for 15 year olds how do you figure they acquire any of that. If Don't already use the free software and different open source material you'd be lucky. The fact that the thing has to be manufactured to fit really takes away from the diy claim.
@Shishou_Shi
@Shishou_Shi 7 місяців тому
Ordering custom parts from a manufacturer is a thing you can do and what most true DIYers do. I'm currently designing a mid drive that needs a lasercut motor mounting plate. Yet I don't have a laser cutter. Does that mean it won't be DIY? Using off the shelf items and sticking them together is less DIY than ordering parts. Might as well buy a complete kit which is basically a building kit and not at all DIY.
