The 97-98 season was watered down there were only 4 real superstars in the entire NBA. Jordan, Malone, O'neal and Duncan. The entire East outside the Bulls that year was trash. Look how bad it was in the NBA. 5 teams couldnt even win 20 games. A record.

I like watching the shooting ability in todays league and I like seeing offense for sure, the focus on efficiency is an interesting evolution and you can clearly see which teams have the efficiency and which teams don’t. Not this version of the Bulls. They were physically banged up and was spent by the end of the playoffs vs Utah. Battle worn. I don't think they woulda won the following year if they had kept it together.

They don’t have time to become special because players are bouncing from one team to another. It takes time and years of playing with the same guys to develop good chemistry.

duncan wasnt duncan yet till the end of that season, and he showed it when he took over in the playoffs.problem was the didnt have the outside shooters to help duncan inside, so utah double teamed every time the ball was sent in the paint.

I believe it would have went 7 games because by 1999 Duncan was unstoppable and Robinson was the Defensive stopper. All the Bulls would have needed to be healthy and at there best like they were in this game. Every played well in this game.

Krause was great at roster building. They would’ve had to get younger. But Jordan was stubborn and had no sense of roster building, then and now. He would’ve been a detriment to the team remaining a contender.

Besides the block, what exactly did Jordan do to make Duncan look like a G League player? Duncan pretty much did what he wanted against the Bulls front line. Still a developing rookie, but no G league player here.

I disagree, Duncan came in better just lacking experience . Duncan was more polished offensively, Robinson was more versatile like Pippen. Robinson was the swiss army knife, utility All Star, Duncan was the more reliable offense both were great rebounders but Duncan was the better & more disciplined individual defender, both we great interior rim defenders

You mentioned David Robinson being on the decline but he was still putting up a double-doubles in the regular season and playoffs. He averaged 17ppg 12rpg vs the Knicks in the finals. Dennis Rodman wasn't on the decline, HE WAS DONE after '98. He was a shell of himself vs the Jazz and who knows would he have even been there the next season. He was the Bulls only inside presence on the boards and on defense and no way at 37 yrs of age he would've been able to defend Duncan or even Robinson. Also, that would've been the Bulls *4th* straight finals appearances so you can't just assume, as many people do, that that Bulls team that was OLDER and had a lot of basketball mileage wouldn't have been fatigued the next season. Look at the history of all the teams that went to 4 straight finals; they all broke down by that 4th finals appearance (Celtics '84-'87, Lakers '85-'89, Pistons '88-'91, Lakers '00-'04, Heat '11-'14, Warriors '15-'19).

Robinson was still a good player that would've presented matchup problems for that Bulls team. Look at Scottie Pippen's stats in '99 vs D Rob's stats in the playoff/finals. Also, you brought up that Rodman averaged 11 rpg in '99 but what you didn't bring up is that he only played *11* games that season. Why? Because he was done as a player. You would think the shortened season would've probably been more of a benefit to the Bulls but that's not going to help with Pippen's and Rodman's lack of production at that point. Neither to me was an elite player by then for different reasons. Also, as great as Jordan was, he never dominated the Spurs in any of their regular season matchups. In one game vs the Spurs he shot a miserable (*12-*39). Moreover, Jordan was not going to win a thing by himself which is why he never won until a team was put around him. The Bulls never faced a team who had two bigs that were as good as Duncan and Robinson.
