You're SO right - a lot of us have dreamed about using old tiny nitro RC engines for bikes etc. If you're looking for a working clutch design for low-power engines, check out the old Honda CT 70 (and 50, and 90, and 110) "automatic" clutches. They're probably too heavy for this application, and they run in a light oil bath, but they're designed to operate reliably with 3.5-10 horsepower engines for years and years. I got a CT 70 when I was 12, beat it up for 4 years, gave it to my middle brother, who beat it up for another 4 years, then gave it to our youngest brother. He rode it until he turned 16 and got a Honda 200, traded it in and it was still on the original clutch plates.
@Enjoymentboy
@Enjoymentboy 2 роки тому
Can you reduce the spring pressure on the main clutch? I had a batavus years ago and I was able to stretch the clutch spring and remove a couple of the steel balls to raise the stall up preventing it from engaging at lower rpm. Made takeoff from a dead stop much better. Higher revs allowed the clutch to really grab instead of slip. Similar concept as to some of the comments below for the RC clutch.

I would reckon that you need a lot more reduction on that first stage so that the motor gets to spin up more. Instead of a chain and sprocket maybe a timed belt although at 16-25,000 rpm the centrifugal force may make keeping it on a problem. Since I first saw you show that little nitro rc engine on the channel I've dreamed of converting 1 (or more than 1) to run a chainsaw.
