I just turned 26 but was watching girlfriends as a child and now that Netflix has put the show on, I have a new found appreciation for the show/these ladies. Every episode is relatable now that I am a grown woman.

Just finished this series for the first time and I’m blown away. The topics they talked about were so ahead of their time.. colorism, police brutality, I mean hell, veganism!?? They even gave a shout out to us Filipinos 🥲 Who would have thought. I love this show, had me cracking up out loud I’m sure my neighbors think I’m crazy at this point. Was truly sad to see Toni go

One of the best written and acted sitcoms. They all should have won Emmys. Really messed up they didn't.

Persia White is underrated as an actor & character in the show….she made the show less of a stereotype & made it un-corn. They should have spent more time developing her character because she has incredible range and there was so much more they could have done with her character to highlight free spirited black women that don’t fit in any boxes. I love all of the other ladies as well and hope that they bring them all back with a serious/big budget and an excellent script.

I don’t see this as Joan taking over the interview but just leading the conversation. She gives everyone their space and time and doesn’t interject rudely. On top of that the other women don’t seem bothered by it all. It seems organic to me and how they naturally bounce off each other. I loved this 🥰.

Honestly, I'll fund the girlfriends reunion myself at this point.

At 32, I never realized how much I needed to rewatch Girlfriends until I found out it was going to be put on Netflix. Like, I watched this show since the beginning in 2000, took a break before season 6 and I’m just now picking it back up. I appreciate the fact that I can understand the scenes better, I can see myself in each character, and I’m patiently waiting for a reboot! Cus we need it!

At 22, girlfriends is just teaching me SO much about life and sisterhood. Young black women need this show.

I personally don't hear people talk enough about "The Game" being a spin-off of sorts from "Girlfriends". Melanie is Joan's cousin. Shout out to UPN back in the day: Girlfriends, The Game, One on One, The Parkers, All of Us, Half & Half, etc.

I can see a little of their characters in each one except Toni in Jill Marie Jones. Jill seems soooo different from Toni which means she's a good actress.

Jill seems completely opposite of Toni... I love the contrast.

In 2018, Mara Brock Akil said on the Breakfast Club she had a script in mind for a GIRLFRIENDS movie. She said she won't do it unless she gets a budget of 40 to 50 million dollars. She added the reason for the budget is GIRLFRIENDS is valuable. It was valuable to the fans. The actors are valuable. She said she wants to give the fans a wonderful film and her vision isn't cheap.

Girlfriend was big in most African countries too. I watched it in Ghana at a very young age. Toni was everyone's favourite.

As much as Toni leaving left a whole, the show did well by pushing other characters at the forefront. William & Darnell’s bromance was so hilarious. It showed such contrasting personalities: street vs corporate and they did it well! Bring these two back when interviewing. We need a Girlfriend’s movie PLEASE❤

What Persia said about people constantly ask “what are you?” so resonated with me and the feeling of not knowing where you fit as a mixed kid. It was expressed so well. I watched this show every week as a pre-teen and teenager and I loved it then but rewatching it as an adult I truly understand how important this show was for all women.

Can we just get the ending to season 8. Does Aaron come home, does Mya and Darnell adopt, how does William baby look, does Lynn get out of her deal and does Toni accept Joan’s apology after years. I need to know 😂

The ending just made me cry. We need a Girlfriends the movie, that show is timeless. I've been binge-watching re-runs on Netflix, and it's still so relevant, I have an even better understanding now since I'm older, I was much younger when it was still on. This show was obviously targeted to black women, but this white guy was hooked from the start. Toni was my favorite character. I'm glad we finally have the true story of why Jill left, the regrets she has and the ones she doesn't. LET'S HAVE THAT MINI-SERIES TO GIVE THIS SHOW ITS PROPER CLOSURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m rewatching Girlfriends on Netflix and the nostalgia is so heartwarming. What an iconic show ! It’s too bad sitcoms like this are now a thing of the past. TV is trash today.

Watching this for like, the 3rd time I now realize why it still resonates 20 plus years later. "Girlfriends" is without question on par with other classic TV ensembles such as Golden Girls, Sex and The City, Living Single, Friends etc There is such an undeniable chemistry amongst the cast that it is disarming when you realize these ppl are not real friends but talented performers making us believe the fantasy is actually reality.

We most definitely need a Girlfriend's movie. I haven't finished the whole show yet, I'm on season 5. I always loved this show growing up. Now as an adult it just hits so different and its beautiful.

I think straight black men loved this show as much as women. Tony was my girlfriend.

Girlfriends were way ahead of their time. Issues back then still exists til this day! Loved this show so much, too bad I didn’t understand back then but rewatched and payed more attention now that I’m grown. I was so upset when they left us hanging on the last episode.

Girlfriends had a cast and crew that were all educated and self aware about the identities they were portraying and how they fit into the world around them. They took real interest and care in figuring out what their show and characters would represent, as well as what topics were important and worth addressing while still being relatable and down-to-earth in their portrayal of everyday life, and *that* is the reason why decades later people are still drawn to the show and can’t get enough of it. Television that has this much passion and depth behind it was (and still is) extremely rare, and the unification of these actresses and crew who all happened to share a similar vision and click so organically together was nothing short of magic. Truly an example of the stars aligning perfectly for something beyond beautiful and culturally impactful to be created. We without a doubt wouldn’t have had the opportunity to see a show like ‘Insecure’ had ‘Girlfriends’ not existed so I hope all the creative minds and actors that helped bring this piece of Black television/pop culture history together get the flowers they all rightfully deserve 💐.

I don't like the way persia interrupted Jill when Jill started to talk about toni's complexion issue on the show.. Persia completely cut her off to talk about the difficulties of being mixed and light skin when Jill was trying to talk about dark skin issues... the irony

I always fantasized about having a group of girlfriends like these 4. I wanted my adult life as a woman to be like Joan character on the show successful , free and happy . I'm still in the process of making this a reality. # fingerscrossed

I love Tracee for acknowledging privilege. There is nothing more important than people who are self aware. She mentions white privilege and then later discusses privilege she had growing up with a rich and famous mother. So many privileged people spend so much time try to convince you that their struggle was as hard as yours.

My favorite episode was the episode where Kimberly Elise made an appearance and her character had HIV. It was sooooo great to see that happen on television. It was very eye opening.

The struggle difference between the identity of Tracee and Persia lies in the experience of whether you have a Black mama or not.

I would like to say that these ladies were such a pillar in my life during the 90's era. I appreciate this interview because it allows the audience to get to know them on a more personal level. The fashion and hair styles were spot on and the people behind the show did an excellent job of presentation in our community. Ashame that they never got the recommendations their deserved(Emmys or Oscars).

After UPN turned into the CW they started "cleaning house" aka getting rid of all the black shows. I remember watching UPN after school until it was bed time. The Steve Harvey Show, The Parkers, One on One, Girlfriends, Half & Half, etc

I almost cried when Traci said Joan's big love affair was Toni. The show wasn't the same without Toni. It was ok but not the same.

Girlfriends the movie: Begins 10 years after it ended in 2018 when the world was still good 1. Joan got married to Aaron but they have been trying for years to have a kid. Their's is the story of infertility that so many couples suffer 2. Maya has published three more books and when the story begins she is visiting New York to promote her latest book. She is a huge star now. The movie opens with her walking with Tony in central park. Maya and Darnell are going strong but always busy so they weren't even paying attention to the fact that their successful (now an engineer) son has just come home with the woman he intends to marry. A white girl. 3. Tony has just divorced for the second time but unlike her first marriage, she did not marry for money honey and the settlement was HUGE. Now she has everything a girl from Fresno could want but does she? Maya and Joan have only seen each other once since 2005. Joan invited her to her wedding but she didn't go. 4.Lynn has achieved some success but is still struggling to be no 1 on the charts. Alot of the issues about what defines blackness especially against the backdrop of BLM will come out in the story. 5. William is now Managing partner at Swedelson & Dent but life trying to balance the corporate world and staying true to himself and keeping Ms. Monica happy is not easy. It doesn't help that Monica is pregnant with their fourth child and her children need to be raised in the same style that she was raised in. How does it end? I don't know ask Mara Shonda or somebody....

I feel like the actors who played William and Darnell ( 2nd one) needed to be there. They were a big part of the show too...

I love their chemistry! They really are like girlfriends.
