I find the saddest part of this is that the owner truly loved him and had bonded with him closely. It probably hurt her so much to not be able to take care of him anymore due to her health. He is truly grieving and sharing her pain, clearly a beautiful connection.

My cat died this week because of that. He had to do a surgery in his ear and after that he stopped eating. We did all the tests on him, blood test, tomography... nothing was wrong with his body, he just refused to eat. And after one month of forcing him to eat he died. I miss him deeply and I will forever miss him. I hope he felt all my love.

I started absolutely balling my eyes out when I saw the photos from 7 years ago. poor kitty lost his mom of 7 years

whatever that lady was going through, i can't imagine the heartbreak of having to leave your cat behind because you know you can't give him the life he deserves. seeing the baby pictures and how happy and healthy he used to be really showed how much she loved him. brought me to tears :'(

A recent study showed that cats prefer human affection over food and water even if they’re starving. He clearly misses his old owner. So sad people really think they are selfish pieces of shit who don’t care about anything but eating and sleeping.

And ppl still think cats are ungrateful bastards that would love whatever person who feeds them.

Depression and anxiety makes people go crazy, consider things you would never have thought of. The fact the owner still considered Joonpal's well being shows how muck she cared about her cat

I fostered a cat from a shelter which was found abandoned on the streets. He was declawed, so someone just let him go, unchipped. The shelter showed me him and said he refused to eat, wouldn't move and was depressed. When I saw and heard that, I immediately said I would foster him! He blossomed in my home, and a great family adopted him!

When I first saw this video, I couldn't stop crying. I don't know what got into me but I felt the cat's extreme sadness. It was just too much to bear. It was like my heart was drowning in sorrow.

It made me cry to see that the cat approached the women carefully, it’s like he felt loved again. That cat was hurt so many times not feeling loved or wanted, and now he gets to experience love which I think is the sweetest thing in the world

I am amazed that some are surprised that cats or dogs can have depression. I think any creature with strong social behavior can suffer from it. I have a cat which is traumatized and has the same signs as a traumatized human being.He is lovely, but very fearful to new situations, so its hard for him to adapt to new situations. Sometimes he can suddenly get very angry and violent. He reacts extremly sensitive to classical music, which means he beginns to purr und meowing, when listening to it. He often seems to be stressed out by situations which my other cat not even minds…all because a maschine almost squeezed him, when he was a kitten and then he changed the owner many times.

This reminds me -- Years ago I owned a cat who was devoted to me. One day he was hit by a car and had to spend time in the vet hospital. He would not eat or respond to treatment and the vet sent to say he should be put down. I went to the vet to say goodbye to him and as soon as he heard my voice he "came alive"- he jumped out of the pen and covered me with purrs and kisses. The vet changed her mind and continued to treat him. He made a complete recovery. He could not face life without me, but when he realized I was still around he wanted to live again.. I am looking forward to viewing part 2.

One of my two cats passed away, and my remaining kitty stopped eating out of grief. She nearly starved herself to death, until we got a new kitten. After a couple days of rocky start, they became great friends, and she started eating again.

Jonpaal passed away on March 25 2024 at age 17. He had the opportunity to live many happy years with Dahae after she adopted him and surrounded him with love. RIP Jonpaal. 😢

Today I learned that cats can get this depressed. This actually gives me goosebumps. We don’t understand our own feelings in society, let alone a poor cat. I pray for this world and it’s healing.

I can’t believe how people can’t realize how much pain and damage we can cause to animals.!!

My cat fell sick out of the blue and died when I went to college in a different country. She was a healthy young cat that had great care. I always thought she hated me cause I would cuddle with her and carry her around and she hated being touched (I was young and stopped annoying her a few years before she died, but she still hated me). My mom was the one who fed her, but I loved her the most. I remember hearing that she was ill and I just had this gut feeling that she won't recover. She couldn't jump anymore, but I remember when I called my parents, she heard my voice and jumped to the couch with her last pieces of energy and got close to the camera. Last day she was home my parents couldn't find her, but she was on my bed. She died in the vet, and I came home 10 days later. The vet told us that my absence could have possibly affected her health. It's probably one of the greatest losses in my life. More than a year has passed and I still cry like a child remembering her. Busya, I miss you, my greatest friend.

I just had a cat like this. Its called Hepatic Lipidosis in cats. If a cat doesnt eat for a few days, particularly a heavy middle aged cat, their liver will become overwhelmed with fat to break down. This causes their liver to shut down, which makes them nauseous and unwilling to eat food, making the condition worse. The cat will die from Dehydration or Malnutrition if not treated. The treatment is to have a feeding tube put in, and force feed a surplus of calories and water until the liver regrows and the cat begins to eat on its own again. My cat had to stay in the ER for 5 days, then I feed him with the feeding tube in his neck every 3-6 hours. 3 weeks later he was eating on his own, after 4 weeks the tube was removed. Total cost $7500 If you literally force feed a cat by shoving food in it's mouth, it will get a food aversion, which can make things worse. Cats are much more likely to develop a food aversion than humans or dogs, in which case they will be nauseated by the smell of that food.

My cat depressed after my other cat dies. He won't eat and keep meowing like in the video. It seems he couldn't accept the fact that his friend had died because they were together for so long. I hugged him and gave cat treats to calm him down. It's so sad..

This is so heartbreaking. We have two cats we raised from when they were just 3 months old, they are now 2 years old and they still get a bit worried when we leave the house. This must be so hard for Joonpal giving up in life and still waiting for her to come back. God bless the shelter lady and the new owner in not giving up on Joonpal 💜

Imagine the old owner watching this and seeing how her cat went through so much without her. It looked like they had a hard time. I hope things are better for the owner just like how the cat finally found light again.

I had a cat who died from this. I knew her for as long as I could remember. Her name was Pepper and the cat who had been there her entire life died of a stroke, she refused to eat, wouldn't go to her favorite places, and died in under a month. I had managed to get her laying next to me, petting her. She purred for the first time since Shorty's death, and died by my side. Pepper had obvious depression, and I miss her dearly.

This made me cry so hard, it really reminded me of myself, I was so depressed and anxious that I just wouldn't eat or drink at all... no idea how I survived So glad this cat got better 🥲

I have a cat once called nungnung , he loves me so much i have him since i was just entered highschool. Been with me for almost 7 years but then he got into depression like this when im going to university. He refuses to eat to play. He was very chonky and being all skinny. He only eats everytime im going back to my hometown. It breaks myheart thinking abt him. sometimes i think its all my fault. I didnt even get to buried him. My family did.. i love him so much. I rescued a cat that was found inside a drain and she had depression refusing to eat or drink anything. I brought her to the fed and had no choice but to force feed her. I showed her so much of love and care. It's been a month now and she's so much better and she's eating well. If your cat ever has depression, main thing is to show them that you love and care for them.

My cat had depression too, she died days later. She was a good girl, i didnt like her slow suffering. I Always Gave her attention and lots of love, i stayed by her side when she was with depression, my mom in 2016 put her to adoption and someone adopted her, they didnt treat her right and always kept her leaving and she was dirty, me and my brother heard her meows from below the car, it was her, we rescued her and she lived happily again, now, shes gone. and im glad i could make her happy.
