Could someone explain the insight behind m = m % (2*n) + 2*n ? I'm pretty sure it is for decreasing the number of iterations but I can't seem to understand why? thanks

You might as well just do m = min(n, m), it makes no difference

Just don't use it, it's forbidden magic. Either that or you need to add -DLOCAL compilation flag. Still, better not use it because it's overcomplicated and you won't understand what it does.
