Basically though, before it ever took the cavewoman as its host, a sorcerer from an alternate dimension communed with Phoenix and through his imaginations of the mythical fire bird of legend, it decided to take shape in that very form. It’s an unnatural form that the Phoenix doesn’t sustain naturally, which is why it feeds off of stars and planets. Because to sustain such a form, it would need energy, which would mean either take what is already available in the present or deny future life that has yet to have a chance to be born.

Old Man Phoenix is not canon.....yet anyways. He comes from an alternate future made by Aaron. Though Aaron is currently writing Avengers and Thor, no other writers are really acknowledging that plot. Hell, Aaron himself barely acknowledges it from time to time. He has shown cameos of Old Man Phoenix, but so far, Wolverine of the 616 has not gotten the Phoenix. Since Black Panther defeated Logan, he isn’t gonna be the Phoenix this time around, distancing the 616 ever moreso away from Old Man Phoenix.

Ah, that retcon. In canon, the idea of the telekinetic cocoon was that after Phoenix integrated Jean’s soul and became her, Jean saw her dead body and thought it could be a second chance in case things go wrong for her new more powerful form. Then the crash happened and caused Jean enough trauma to forget what happened in the shuttle and the Phoenix real memories no longer existed so longneck as Jean’s soul remained in the drivers seat. Obviously, things did go wrong and Phoenix regained its own memories and decided to try to wake Jean up again and try to make up for its mistakes. A what-if explored the idea though of Phoenix existing as Jean beyond the Dark Phoenix Saga. Basically, Phoenix goes through a existential crisis of learning Jean was at the bottom of the bay still, which causes her to accidentally kill Jean from its lack of self-control.

More like update her superhero name. She used to go by Marvel Girl, but Claremont wanted to upgrade her to a powerful female character. That change would be dignified with a new costume and name. This obviously didn’t last, so she went back to Marvel Girl and then said screw it and went with her real name.....then she went back to Phoenix to honor the death of Rachel at the time in the comics....which then led to her being possessed by it and then killed....now that she is alive again, she is back to Marvel Girl.....

This. Retconning things in the Marvel universe should be moderated better, lest the whole X-men universe be one convoluted mess of stagnated plot.
