This video is a step by step guide to building your own camper . I completely transformed my old popup camper to a nice new hard sided camper . I cover everything I think you would need to know to build your own .

I’m a 64 year old arthritic, mobility impaired, woman. I am not now nor have I ever been builder or repairer of anything bigger than a trinket box. I loved this video. No fancy technical jargon, no fast forward through what you were doing. And you explained everything you did and why. This was an excellent teaching video.

This is truly one of the best DIY videos that I've ever seen on UKposts. You don't have an extravagant workshop loaded with $500k worth of expensive tools. You don't have 15 people helping you with the build. The process is shown in real time from a good angle, where viewers can get a good look at what you're doing. Absolutely perfect and the camper came out great!

To LIVINMONTES. Both you and your son are a GREAT TEAM. Life is just random - even if people have any disabilities, they still have things to ACHIEVE. So you need to find how to do them! I'm writing music for a video, but am Dyspractic - so I can't get the hang of any instruments, except KEYBOARDS. However, if you notice, many musicians DO play everything through a keyboard these days as a matter of course. No massive amount of instruments to drag around from place, and no big orchestra to have to find space forbon a stage either. So no- one will know my "secret" problems anyway! SORTED! And with your practical mind, you are also just the ideal Dad your capable son needs, too!

A good tip for using the butyl putty tape, is to put the roll in the freezer overnight. The tape will still be flexible and the paper will roll off easily in one piece when you apply it.

I worked for a mobile home company back in the late 60s. (Fleetwood) Some of the large trailers uses 2x2 lumber for the side walls and 2x4 lumber in the front wall. The roof was 2x6 tapered to the edges to allow a bit of roof pitch. The trick to keeping the walls in place was a cap strip all the way around the trailer and some of the larger units used steel strapping to reinforce around windows. I think you did a great job, especially using glue and screws. The big trailers were all just nailed together by hand.

If you've ever been Then you know the winter in NYC is brutal so imagine living outdoors in those conditions. And cops are all to happy to wake a house less person up in the middle of they're sleep too harass them. This I believe will help me stay alive out here. I love my country America is the greatest we help out the whole world. But many veterans , essential workers ,single parents , widowers and divorcees are living in the street or wilderness and just barely able to keep ourselves from not dying. @@blackspruce1861 I have some bags I got at a hardware store that are like family size tea bags but with peppermint, spearmint and what all in them. I used to leave them in my last car, on a pie plate on the floor, to keep the chipmunks from infesting and eating my air system and filter. They work well, are not toxic and do not smell like mothballs. If you hate the mint it dissipates pretty fast as long as it isn't mint oiling the flooring. I thought my nice minty car was a great return on not replacing filters and having acorns vacuumed out or blown at me when the fan was turned on. Much better than checking and changing the snap traps, decon or whatever. My cousin swears by peppermint oil spray.

I would double check the load capacity on the springs/suspension. Just to make sure you're not putting way more on them than they were designed for. It may not seem like much weight, but it adds up quickly. Especially when you start loading gear, etc in it. * Since it was an older trailer to start with, those springs, bushings, etc may not have been in all that great of shape and they might possibly be Chinese springs. We see a lot of boat trailer springs break because they came from overseas and it's usually a horrific crash in the road. Which obviously you would never want to risk. Fortunately new springs and hardware aren't terribly expensive. But definitely a cool project you've done there.

Solid build, yeah seems like a tradeoff between weight and strength, which reminds me of a Japanese build i watched a whlie ago, ukposts.info/have/v-deo/sqaYla-amW6QpYU.htmlsi=loxgFiIIKxju0a0X theyve been working with wood for a long time and have some intersting design philosophies. Personally id see if could get away with no wood and just use aluminum frame with sytrofoam board for ultimate light weight. Ive seen homless shelters made out of them they put out for the homeless in the winter here in the city , they seem to insulte really well, and add some plastic sidng for more weather proofing and youre good, Id be planning to haul it using an eletric bike so id be even more weight consiouse is the reason and this could be a real light weigh solution. I am a truck driver who pulls flatbed. Ive delivered lots of lumber, siding, and such to various travel trailer builders. Yours appears to be a lot nicer than many of them. I've seen that they dont predrill nail/screw holes. If the 2x2 splits, I guess they figure its inside the wall.

Wow ... that answered several questions I've had about a project like this one. I see a few of these mouse-ruined pop ups around, some just for the price of "hauling it away". Now I see why (besides any still working appliances) about all that's useable is the running gear/frame. Very useful info, Ryan! Thank you for taking the time to share this project :) Later, sir ... Love the video. I’m in the middle of a utility trailer conversion, and I took some good notes from this to help. One word of caution for those of us in colder climates; if you use a floating floor covering that doesn’t need to be glued down, it can crack under your footsteps in severe cold.

I love the build - simple yet eloquent. You don't see those things intersect too often. You never mentioned costs to anything, I can imagine already that this wasn't too crazy but I would be curious to know about the cost and location of the supplier for the doors and windows. I might not be able to do a 'tiny house' or 'cabin build' BUT...grabbing a run down pop-up and giving it a face lift would definitely fit the budget and my constraints of not having much land to store it and/or to build on. Thanks for inspiring the creative side of my brain!

An interesting take on a rebuild from scratch and a well-made video of the production process. Depending on where you're going, you may want to spray light foam insulation on the underside (within the frame) to keep rock/gravel strikes and similar to a minimum. Which should also help keep the floor warmer during the shoulder seasons, keep out some noise, and with longevity of the plywood. You will absolutely need a fan for fresh air exchange the moment it rains. Otherwise, the place will start to smell like sweaty socks and your beautiful woodwork will swell up from the humidity. As an idea, if you're not near your weight limit, consider an awning on the door side. Since you don't have indoor plumbing, it might give you a nice dry outside area for a kitchen. Make sure you can store all your food indoors to avoid attracting critters! Good luck and have fun camping with your build!

I've watched this video 5 times now. I am going to be homeless soon by choice with my wife and child. I showed her this video and I gave her an idea of how comfortable it can be. We are in a bad housing situation and need out till we find a new home to live in. It won't take long but having something to stay in is a main priority. We will have a home again within a month 🙌 but just saying thanks for the details. I'm a general contractor and wood worker so it's all basic stuff to me. But to see how everything was built helped me a lot in the design on mine. I got a free pop up with title from a old guy down the way that was wasted but axles were recently replaced. So I got an idea with a few personal tweaks I'll build my own. I do have a truck camper setup as well.

That came out really sharp. At first I thought it was too small. But you fit a lot inside and kept a clear flow to get to all areas. I really like the floating camper stove setup. There is room on the front and back so if you decide to add a bike rack, or strap down extra gear. It can be done easily. Can't wait for it to rain. You could always take a water hose to it just to test out the windows.

@blackspruce1861 Yes! Good tip! My comment was primarily to underscore that all of your incredibly valuable information is only safe in this application because you have considered the weight the trailer can bear. One thing I still don't understand is how you know you will be well below that weight limit. I know there are weigh stations but I doubt they would be utilized during a build, even among someone new to construction of this nature. Is it experience that has informed your confidence about the weight of your vehicle? Do you have any tips for "beginners" who want to ensure that they're under the weight limit when building?
@blackspruce1861
@blackspruce1861 6 місяців тому
I didn't know that it would be under weight for sure but I actually googled the weight of treated plywood and luan and 2x2s and 2x4s . I know thats just a close number not exact but I added what I thought I would need to do the build and it came up around 1700 lbs. I did get it weighed though and the video will be up at 10:45 am Saturday ..... sorry for the really late response I just saw your response

Wow, nice job and a pleasant video to watch, well done! I'd say your trailer build it twice as strong as an old travel trailer of that vintage. I am not sure what roof glue you used but one thing that can cause bubbles in the rubber roof is too much glue, this is the case if the bubbles popped up after it looked like it was already down tight.
