In this video, we are going to look at the performance of popular jetpacks of today, namely by Gravity Industries, Jetpack Aviation and Jetman.
We will also look at some Electric Jetpacks, namely the Electrified Wingsuit, Copterpack and the EJ-1S

I should invent something. I almost invented a few things but never could afford to build a prototype or get a patent.

Back in the 1970's I was a fan of the Marvel comic series "The Micronauts" (Based on the toy line of the same name) Several characters used "Glider Packs", and one used an oversized unit VERY similar to the Copter Pack. The latter, I will now be following the development of.

The big copta blade's look the most safty oriented and stable,as does the frame style.i would say an automated landing system ,could be useful with the fine attunement of electric motor's.maybe some one could ride under a 'Dyson fan' rectangular tube wing (extended laterally),with sets of small jet pack's at the ends of a Dyson wing for downward stability stabilisers.as always it was a great history telling of these inventions, thanks for making these great, and entertaining documentaries

Truly a missed opportunity to talk about the energy requirements for different modes of flight. Physics is really important to the design of these single person fliers. I know you know the math!! You could talk about the different technologies that provide propulsion by their energy, fuel and electrical requirements, and match up what you think would do a better job. You could have spoken about battery technologies advancing to the point where it is feasible to fly alone for a longer time than a few minutes. You could describe the difference between full aerobatic flight and simple transport over distance, and how the flight regime demands define the energy requirements. Still, great work!

Just attach a bunch of light weight lithium batteries and make the jets bigger. Use the glider wing and than that would make a jet pack fly way longer at a faster speed. I should invent it 🤔

I flew the flyboard waterjet and the Jetpack turbojet powered devices some years ago. The flyboard was the easiest with much more stability than the Jetpack. It was powered by a Seadoo through a long flexible pipe to the two waterjets at my feet which gave some self leveling stability.. The Jetpack consisted of two turbojets on a moveable frame controlled by both hands and a twist grip throttle. The framework was rather heavy and awkward to control resulting in much lag. I was tethered to an overhead cable. I just looked at their website now and see they are still using the group picture with me being the the old guy with the silly grin next to the young girl😁.

Thanks for gathering so much information on this very exciting topic. There are so many applications for electric aviation, especially where small aircraft and short range are acceptable. Its surprising we haven't seen more electric motors for launching gliders. I would think parawings and small helicopter/drone vehicles for short hops are obvious applications.

The firemen mech legs was missing on those heavy landing models in history. The best concept feature we tried 6:47, is using the jetboard feet stand, as the engine, jetback as the fuel source, with wing glide suits wings extend at under elbow to hip alignment, as the fast cruise path & loops, if be electric, the afterburners could've been hydrogen or helium combustion, if individual legs as engine/thusters, with a sheet between leg as tale fin, scissor/spin, pitch & yawn manuever also apply in cruise path mode.

My problem with most of them apart from the obvious limited flight time is that they are not able to be operated hands free and such that the hand is a very versatile tool imposes a big compromise. For any to be successful they would require the operator to be able to carry and deploy a weapon in flight because it’s the military that would have the prime need for such a thing.
