I’m 27 and this song still hits no matter what your age there will always be “the cool kids”

My 9th grade classmate introduced this song to me when we were cleaning the classroom while the more popular classmates were doing anything else aside from clean, never knew I'd be listening to it now at college, helps me look back at where I came from and what I went through.

I like this song, it comforts me. Personally elementary school was hell, no I wasn't bullied or any other sorts. Depression, anxiety , and regrets almost got me to end it, but I won. Slowly I am learning to live with them and that it's okay to feel those emotions.

As an introvert who just wanted to graduate high school, I see this song as a reflection of what I don't regret doing before turning 18. College life became a real eye-opener to living in the real world, so I really didn't care about "cool kid" positions since graduation ends everything. The majority of former classmates who tried too hard to be "cool" have practically spent their early adulthood with posting alternative selfies on their social media instead of posts that would have implied successful moments.

I was a " Niche Kid" lol being this kind of kid...which granted me the power to relate to the mainstream (cool kids) while also relating to everyone else...smart kids,weirdos etc. Basically the safest group. A kid that understands all the groups while belonging to none. Yeah I was S tier basically 😂 not caring if I was cool or anything just doing my own thing with random ppl...had alot of fun!

Growing up I always wanted to be a cool kid but I was always to shy or weird but I realized later on that it didn't matter if I was cool or popular because I had friends that made me happy and didn't care if I was weird because they were to. I remember jamming out to this in 5th grade

Truly, it was exhausting. It got to the point where I wasn't sure who I was and what I was even on earth for. I struggled to see my own worth because I was looking for it in all the wrong things. I got homeschooled for 8th grade and that helped me tons. I was able to find myself in these books about successful people and what they did to rise out of their struggles. This gave me new hope, like a phoenix does when they die, they immediately rise up from their own ashes. High school was when things really began to change. I tried a different approach. Serving my teachers and fellow students in small ways (like gathering books or setting up chairs) brought a joy that was unmistakable. I tried going out for basketball but I never made the team. I served for three years as the manager instead. Washing towels, getting water, etc. I got picked on a bit but I held my ground. I ended up running track because of this and that helped me develop the belief that I could become anything that God needed me to be. All I had to do was work hard, serve others, and run after them. And that's what's happened. Even though I wasn't voted most popular in high school I am very thankful for the life I have now in college and for how I've been able to put the spotlight on people. That is one of my very favorite things, helping others feel special and get their dreams off the ground. :) Some of the people from my high school I would consider as "cool kids" are doing great things. One is starting up a company about making food indoors with an emerging technology with plants. Then there are others... who have disappeared from my mind as wisps of smoke. They went out with a bang, and had their time of fame and glory, but now nobody cares how "cool" they were in high school. I share my story as a way to lift, and not to demean or discredit anyone. These are some crazy times for sure. What will never go out of style is reaching out to and lifting up others and helping them to live their best lives. Although I may not have thought it in the past, the thing that would be the coolest thing for me would be to be a great dad for my kids and help them grow and develop, like my parents did for me.
