I thought it was kinda obvious that chef Saltbaker was gonna be the twist villain, but I never would’ve expected for him to redeem himself at the end through community service. That is very wholesome.

This boss is so beautifully animated. No wonder it took so long!

Not going to lie, when I fought the salt shaker I was terrifyed, not because of his constant spam of attacks but the actions he takes to do so, he essentially butchers living objects and brutally throws their once fearful remains at you all the while sporting a creepy grin as he does so, twisted doesn’t even begin to describe how crazy he is. Unlike the devil this is a man you didn’t expect to be so intentionally malicious after basically being your friend throughout the DLC. Glad he redeemed himself though.

It's honestly incredible that a sentient salt shaker is a much more intimidating and frightening final boss than THE ACTUAL DEVIL.

this boss actually worked better execution wise as a final boss than the devil not just in terms of difficulty but rather the atmosphere of the fight itself...the Devil felt too cartoonishly goofy but Saltbaker was absolutely terrifying in each phase even the music was more menacing.

honestly as menacing as chef saltbaker is in his evil form- the overall character development despite how semi-short this dlc is is profoundly positive.

Chef Saltbaker turned out to be the bad guy and I'm glad he redeemed himself after the battle!

This guy is a terrifying boss. His attacks in the first stage are basically him butchering his ingredients and sending their remains at you. The second stage has you attacking him with PEPPER, the companion to SALT, which makes you wonder why they hate him so much. The third isn’t that scary, but it makes you wonder if he was sealed in that glass body for a reason. Also, you know, the fact that he attacks with what is essentially his innards

Let's be real, we all expected a boss fight with Saltbaker in some way. I don't think we expected him to be a MURDEROUS LUNATIC, however. Seriously, his fight makes THE DEVIL'S boss fight look positively quaint.

Chef Salt Baker mentions that the secret ingredient is “heart and soul” at the beginning of the game hinting that thats what he will need

Everyone's talking about Saltbaker... but honestly, I just can't get over how wholesome the final chat between Chalice and the boys is. "Who needs a Wondertart when they can have two new best pals instead!" 🥰

*without a doubt the best worked boss of the entire dlc, it even feels like you're in a playable Disney movie*

Now I understand why they delayed the cuphead DLC. Totally worth waiting almost half a decade for. The animation is just amazing. If you compare this boss fight with the Devil’s boss fight, you can see how much the creators improved on animation, almost as if it’s a whole different game!

This is just pure art. I can't even imagine the amount of effort it took to animate all that crazy stuff and make it work smoothly with the gameplay, the devs really put their hearts in this bossfight and it shows.

I'll probably never actually play the game myself, but I'll admit the animation is phenomenal. You can tell the developers put their heart and soul into the production of this and the DLC.

It’s nice seeing a villain be redeemed through hard work in the end. He did something bad, but he’s not like the devil. He just let power go to his head.

It’s really a wholesome moment when the bad guy reflects upon his actions at the end by doing community service and becomes a good guy. Truly one of the greatest and happiest endings a person could ask for

I unironically love how the fight with Salt Baker is absolutely insane with him growing in size and cracking open to fight you with m essentially his own blood and then the cutscene after looks like they just had some scuffle that left him just slightly dazed

The best thing is know the Saltbaker finally restored the Chalice's physical body in last picture

The Final Boss Being Saltbaker is terrifying. him literally killing the fruits. Stealing the strawberries. Breaking himself off. It also felt sad that the last boss is your trusted chef. making you felt sorry for him after his lost. and the credits showing that he asks for mercy because he just follows what he knows. I'm glad that he redeemed himself and learning the goods from others. Becoming a true friend who makes best desserts alive.

Reasons why I love this fight so much: 1. He is so well animated and smooth 2. He actually uses the ingredients from previous bosses to attack you 3. They made him look SO menacing 4. I love how ominous his third phase is where you can see his glass body in the back 5. I love how each transitions between each attack and how well tied up they are

This DLC’s boss-fights are practically perfect Interesting gimmicks SUPER WELL ANIMATED, LIKE WOW THE FINAL PHASE OF HOWLING ACES IS TOP TIER Designs are fantastic, we even see the return of the unused spider in Moonshine Mob This DLC is perfect for a game of this style

The fact that Chef Saltbaker thought he would be able to beat someone who defeated the devil just proves how crazy he was

Quick little thing here: Saltbaker’s betrayal was foreshadowed at the start, when he mentions that the secret to combat, like baking, is the heart and SOUL.

Fun fact: of the DLC’s roughly 4 year development: 3 years were dedicated entirely to the animation of Chef Saltbaker. …okay, that might not be true, but with this animation quality? It certainly feels like it!

At the End, the Chef SaltBaker learned his lesson and had time to redeem himself, that is the REAL concept of redemption, SaltBaker responsibilized from his evil deeds and now he is helpfull to society, and i thought that he was one of the Devil's henchmen

So he used all the ingredients we collected from the bosses to defeat us, The Lime from Esther Winchester, The Sugar Cubes from Mortimer Freeze, The Dough from the Moonshine Mobs, The Berries from the Glumstone the Giant, And the Mint from the Howling Aces.

Saltbaker turns this from the Delicious Last Course to the Malicious Last Course Edit: But his redemption has led to a better future.

The villains are so much scarier in this DLC. It doesn’t have the same “yes this guy is evil, but he’s also kinda cute and cartoonish” vibe as the original. Not that it’s a bad thing. But it’s a cool new choice, and I can’t place my finger on what exactly it is that makes these new bosses look creepier, because I know it’s the same animation style

Cuphead is a game that I will never, ever, play on account of it being a reflex-heavy bullet-hell. But I would die for that slick animation.

I had my suspicions he was gonna be a villain, but he kinda creeped me out with those eyes and he really made that final boss battle with him to be such a memorable part of the game for me. I also like he was able to redeem himself and showed the difference between him and the devil. Basically, this DLC was fantastic all around and this boss fight was the cherry on top of it all, showing everything amazing about this DLC and game in one battle.

5:41 Does anyone see how Chalice does have a physical body right here, meaning that it's likely that she finally got something to get her a physical body and not just stay as a spirit.

I think one the hardest things I found in fighting this boss is trying to focus on the objects coming at you everywhere when Saltbaker's mutilating those helpless sentient ingredients in the background. It was very hard not to look at the limes trying to run away just before their tops are lopped off, or the sugar cube's innocent face before he's shattered into particles. This may have been intentional on the design team's part, and if so, well played... but yikes. Incidentally though, I managed to get an *A+* on Saltbaker last night when I beat him for the first time! Granted it took me many, many tries to finally win, and I wasn't even trying to do a perfect run, but did it anyway. Plus I did it with Cuphead himself rather than Ms. Chalice, and I normally *suck* at this game, so it was kind of a big deal for me.

Weirdly enough, in the last picture of the epilogue all three cups are fully corporeal. Maybe the chef found out that the true key to the wondertart was, well, hard work and practice? I mean, that IS the key to my renowned apple pie. Sure, it may not bring the dead back, but I and my friends like it...

It took a very long time for this DLC to come out, and boy was it worth the wait. The animation in this is incredible, it literally feels like a direct sequel to Cuphead rather than a DLC.

Studio MDHR not only reached a crowing achievement with Cuphead they did it again with The Delicious Last Course. I applaud everyone behind this game. 12 years of Hand drawn animation is no easy task. They did the impossible, they caught lightning twice.

I just noticed roughly around 1:23, when the salty baker snaps his fingers, they crack a little. That... Actually makes a fair tad of sense.

Had a strong feeling since the very first trailer that Saltbaker would be a secret villain. Oversiced cheff's in fiction are rarely good guys. Also... the fact that he's cutting up what is pretty much living and thinking creatures and using their remains as attacks... that's so dang creepy. The flawless animation only adds to it, really nails home certain things that can only be done with 2D

Chef Saltbaker was indeed the finest chef in all the lands, but behind his friendly façade laid an obsession. To use his culinary skills to control the Astral Plane itself. In his mind, to be one with life and death would make him nothing less than a God. But for all his baking prowess, he could never achieve his goal without the right ingredients, and especially without the secret ingredient; a living soul. And yet by chance, a living soul would end up finding him! The Legendary Chalice had heard of his talent, and sought him out to help her become a living being again. She even brought up that she knew a couple of mugs who could aid him with whatever needed to be done. Faster than a kitchen timer going 'DING', the Chef knew from there exactly what he needed to do in order to create that delicious last course.....

Too bad The Devil never claimed Saltbaker's soul or at least made Chef Saltbaker one of his minions. They would've made a great team.

The fact I knew something was up with Chef Saltbaker because he was too nice and too friendly immediately set a red flag for me lol but it's awesome to see he redeemed and changed his ways through community service.

saltbaker was probably a super nice guy before finding out that recipe. in fact, while people say he was worse than the devil, i dont think chef saltbaker is entirely at fault. in fact, how DID he find out about that recipe if the devil didnt "accidentally" leak it to him. why WOULDN'T the devil know how to make such a thing? besides, at the end of the day, saltbaker is still better than the devil, as he learned his lesson (and was likely freed from his madness)

Chef Saltbaker was a great twist villian. This could have been an out of nowhere twist that made no sense, but the writers made sure that his motivations made sense and they gave hints that he was going to be bad.

I dunno if anyone's ever mentiond this, but when Chef Saltbaker grows in his second phase, he holds the cups in the palm of his hand. Now you'd think he would just crush them, and that'd be it, right? Nope. He doesn't want their deaths to be quick. He wants to enjoy seeing their pain as they die trying to fight him, because, in his mind, he thinks that they're hopeless.

You know what’s disturbing? The fact that the ingredients Saltbaker uses as attacks are the same ones you collected on the journey you took in order to make the Wondertart (distillery dough, icy sugar cubes, etc.). See, he is essentially using the ingredients you collected AGAINST you! Amazing boss fight btw.
