Yesterday we saw that Daniel Sanders had an accident in the first leg of the Dakar Rally Marathon stage. This crash caused some minor damage to his bike (and his face), and with a little help from team mate Sam Sunderland he was able to get the bike repaired. The marathon stage rule doesn't allow outside assistance and riders can only repair their bikes with tools and parts they carry with them...

What's this bizarre logic this year from the organizers, not considering the safety of riders in the first place. Yesterday it was toby with a blown tire and today poor Sanders couldn't get a stitch on the face. Why?

I totally agree! Xavier is out today, was it because he rode with a broken front tire? Safety? Riding with broken tires is not safe at all.

The tire limit was put in place in the name of "safety". I can't imagine how daft do you have to be to come up with this reasoning.

@@LuckyStrikeLT I hope organizers reconsider their safety rules and come up with a better solution that will ensure the safety of the riders first and competition second. at least these obvious ones can be avoided and hopefully, no one has to sacrifice his/her life to prove the point.

absolutely dishonest with motorcyclists! Yes, this is a day without mechanics, yes, you can only repair using what you have with you, BUT putting a person before the choice of a doctor or repair ... a bad rule! I can understand that it is impossible to bring a spare part with me if I went out ... but sending a person to the start tomorrow with a broken wheel is unacceptable! this is dangerous! give him the opportunity to take a new tyre along with a penalty of 15-30 minutes. then he will have a choice! that would be right!

You need to be careful on those sand dunes, if the sun is above you you can't see the contour of the terrain, you can just ride of a cliff without seeing it till the last moment.

You are not allowed to change a damaged rim or tire ( T Price ) , but what if they die the day after ? Is the organization responsible ? To me they should put safety first. And a damaged wheel tire suspension or brake system should always be allowed to repair. It's already dangerous enough as it is at those speeds.

@@theslipperface you can't use that argument at all. The drivers can't be forced to make those descisions because they are also under pressure from teams, sponsors and other parties. Individual safety should always be put first, above other factors. Look al what happened with other safety regulations in motorsport, especially after fatal incidents. f.e. Senna's death. No way a damaged F1 car would be allowed to start another race now ( bad analogy example I know, because in F1 this wasn't even an issue, even before the death of Senna ) . The point is, it''s the organisation who should evolve. These suicide missions must stop.

I think Daniel would have a mechanic at the races but for his training bikes he would do most of the work himself do forget he is or was a the world best enduro rider they have work periods to change Oil Tyres etc

@ayanux He is referring to his actual house where he trains on his large private property. He has no mechanic in his garage to fix his bikes at home so he learned to do it himself as he grew up.
