Where are the links that you consistently say throughout the interview that you'll "try" to put in? I'm not going to assume the worst but why say you would put it in if you were not going to? Is it a business thing?

This works when the actual brain is healthy. Yet many people have inflamed brain, malnourished brain, dispositions to depression, border line of some kind of mental health, which causes over thinking, over reactivity and on top that trauma. Sometimes when we cope and cope we might be tired so my suggestion is change your diet, have structured sleep schedule, exercise so the brain plays a role in emotional intelligence and helps out the process. Also deal with your trauma, avoid toxic relationship, read and be educated. Emotional intelligence is harder to master compare to other skills.

It's really interesting to see the whole behavior science behind emotional intelligence and the do's and dont's of handling emotions at work. I often wonder how much and what kind of emotions to reveal because you want to be honest with your colleagues given that the work environment is welcoming. The professor's breakdown on the 3 types of empathy was really eye opening as well!

I often mirror the behavior of my manager and coworkers, which isn't always a good thing because I have worked in environments where certain people can behave badly, and others, like myself, must calmly tolerate their misconduct and not react in the same way. Unfortunately, I've had my share of horrible bosses. Dan Golen's book, Emotional Intelligence, helped me to realize this sad truth years ago. However, I also realize there are certain ways that I could react that might stop their bad behavior in its tracks. A good man is hard to find? A good boss is equally hard to find. Thanks, Mr. Golen for your helpful advice!

I've watched Dr. Goleman's interview with podcasters and right now watching this episode. I admire Jacob's level of engagement, active listening (understanding not replying), patience & openness (the things where he wants to improve) in the entire discussion. These things actually make difference. Well done, Jacob. And as always Dr. Goleman is gold standard, quite & calm like a placid lake.

I have a coworker who is good at what he does, but he is the biggest narcissist. He is highly manipulative and condescending. He seems to lack real empathy. It is such an emotional challenge to work with him. If it wasn't such a good paying, stable job I would have quit long ago. On days he is not working I feel so much more at ease.

😢 The worrisome part, is the eerie feelig... if it was there from the start, handle that person with care. He actually might be something a lot higher than a narcissist. And do dispense this talks like they're candy, because part of the reason in many companies still let narcissist/ psychopathic people rise to the top, it's because we let them. I am not saying anyone showing those traits, shouldn't be a leader, I am saying the rest has to be so knowledgeable about this, they do not let them do harm.

Teach people how to treat you. He has the right to be who he is without pretending and you have the right to put him in the line that says "you stop hear" without saying any word, quietly so. Your silence will be too loud for everyone to hear the pulse of your heart. He is flushing away your peace and joy. Put a NO, NO sign on your face. Enough is enough. Pain just wrote for you. You're hurting and you will hurt others unconsciously.

Emotional intelligence is applied very well by people who wants to get ahead in compamies. Couple this with their sefish streak and they will come across as nasty. I have seen this behaviour depending on who they talk to. Higher up then them - two faced and always accommodating. Lower than them - condescending and relentless in their approach. It is the state of many companies which only cares about money. That's why I personally enjoy working for smaller companies.

Sounds just like the expectations of what men and women expect in relationships these days. I'm starting to notice there's a lot of people in this world that just are evil as f***! Others just need some healing and don't know what they do others have just been hurt so they're going through that painful ending, survival mode, kind of a ebitter b**** phase, a f****** emotional rollercoaster! More times than not people don't know how to identify the emotions they are feeling. Which can have a detrimental effect on relationships and heights negative emotions. So most are alone not dating or traumatized but automatically expected to have it all together, emotionally intelligent, street smart, be a mind reader that auto knows what the other is going through without communication.

The pinging thoughts are great. If you listen, you will see that it is reminding you of things you need to do, unresolved fears, things that bother you because our inner self is the best tool for sharing with us what our issues are. So we can use it as such.Yaayyyy... US: "What's wrong with me?" YOURSELF: "Chilllld let me tell you." Lol😅. I have found that writing the thoughts down allow me to get them out of my mind WITHOUT dismissing them. I tell myself that this is important I will come back to it when I have time to deal with it. Then I set a time to do so.That way my inner self is not worried about forgetting or it not be handled thus, causing anxiety. Now with thoughts released, charted and anxiety at bay, the mind becomes clear, peaceful and quiet. -Hope this helps...The Bible gave me this skill and it really has worked. I used to worry like crazy but now not at all. People say they think I smile when I sleep lol 😅! I do have joy and in the midst of weird, abnormal time, I have a true peace. The world can literally be falling and of course there is initial surprise but ultimately, I find peace and am able to maintain in it as I rest in clear thought with answers. "They that keep their minds stayed on Christ will find themselves in perfect peace", is a quote from the Bible. I honestly have found this to be true. Love you guys thanks for sharing and showing us how to handle our thoughts and feelings about them😅

Can reading a book make you emotionally intelligent ? Can a therapist help you no. Nothing. It is an environment that can make u emotionally intelligent and where does that environment comes from years of evolution where pieces have been in right direction make you emotional intelligent. If you are born and grown in right environment you will reap its benefits and if you are r not then you will keep on per-suing whole life but will never be one to make your life better.
