Hello, and thank you for the video. I just purchased the Parts-Express Samba kit with Baffle only. It uses the paper version RS-180-4 and same tweeter, and I have to build the box. First time for me, so I will use your video for tips and also convert their design to a front slot port because it looks Elegante!

All very good and well done on the build, the only minor criticism is when you described the Vas parameter you were relating it to the actual box size. As I understand it it represents a theoretical box that represents the behaviour of the cone suspension. I might be wrong as I’m not an expert but I wouldn’t want anyone to construct an enclosure to the Vas volume and waste time/money. But kudos to you on your build 🙏🙏

Good choice of drive units. I've got the paper-coned version (RS180-4P) in the front doors of my car, along with RST-28A tweeters. Woofers are actively bandpass filtered between 80hz and 4KHz, tweeters are high-pass filtered at 4 KHz. Sounds awesome with massive midbass. Aluminum dome tweeters are detailed without being harsh or fatigueing. There's no car audio marketed speakers that can come close for the price of these puppies.
@sonnoradesign
@sonnoradesign 7 місяців тому
I really liked those drivers. I’d add a second woofer if making this box again. Get more SPL and bass. The tweeters are really clean and articulated. Good choice.
@PAC-fp9hy
@PAC-fp9hy 5 місяців тому
One downside of the Dayton tweeters is that the plastic holding the spade connector deforms very quickly when soldering cable directly. They are not easy to tin without the plastic deforming.

They really look great, I used some of those rs180-4 in a recent build had a lot of trouble with the xover keeping the nasty metal cone ringing(from 4~7Khz), had to cross them very low(1.65Khz) 3rd order ended up needing a tweeter that could handle going that low(without spending $500+), ended up using a Wavecore TWO30W11-1(Fs 410Hz) it seemed to model better than the RST28F-4. But yours turned out to measure great... wished I used them dayton tweeters now would've saved me a lot of phaffing about and some coin too as the Wavecores were double the daytons in price and by the looks a few less xover parts! The boombox I put them in is pretty beefy with a Dayton RS265HF-4 sub between them gets pretty loud only using one of those Dayton DTA2.1BT2 amps(50w x2/100w x1).
@st170ish
@st170ish 2 роки тому
@YuccaReptiles I tried 2nd order but the ringing was still measurable and with the large dia tweeter being strong at these frequencys it boosted them even more so I upped the order which tamed it without having to use a notch filter
@ChicagoRob2
@ChicagoRob2 2 роки тому
@YuccaReptiles The acoustic response is probably 4th order, when factoring driver roll-off.

Congrats man! That’s a great build. I wanna try the Wavecores sometime. You are right there is the high cone break up noise and I had to do the same. Go lower on the crossover point. It worked well. @sonnoradesign 10 місяців тому
Hello Daniel. Thanks for watching! Those speakers are big and heavy. Keep that in mind and if you wanna add 13-14 inches under it might be too high. One option would be to make a smaller box, closer to a regular size bookshelf or reverse the tweeter with the woofer which looks good to me. Another option is to extend the side pieces all the way down and use it as record storage and stand.

This design appears to be an extremely cost effective offering that will blow away commercial offerings costing a whole lot more. I hope that people aren't put off by your antics and realize that some very serious design work is going into these projects which all seem to be "big bang for the buck"!. The series cross over type seems to minimize component cost and keep the overall project costs low You might want to look into the SB Acoustics drivers offered by Madisound. Great work.

Hi man, really enjoyed looking your video! Great job!! I would like to make my Klipsch RF62 ref2 more "out of the ordinary" looking. Before to see your video, I thought about making similar cabinets for the 2 woofers and take the Tweeter "out of the box", suspended between 2 lateral braces about 50cm higher, higher than the one you just built, and maybe replace the horn by a wooden one... I was thinking about using the original baffles and crossovers... Do you think this could kill the current sound quality or improve it? Thanks in advance for your advice. Please keep enjoy us 😉
@sonnoradesign
@sonnoradesign Рік тому
Thanks for watching Stephane! I wouldn’t change the box design or move the horns up. That would change how it sounds. I’m not familiar with those speakers but maybe you can work on better crossovers and internal materials; brackets, sound damping….

Hi there I have build a 2 way speaker with a mundorf tweeter and a 5" scanspeak and will now extend it to a bass box below with 2 x dayton 225 alu ( lower part of the Bordeaux speaker ) do you have any experience with this or suggestions to design? or should i just round the corners? I have an idea that i will make the sides 2 cm to high, to enclose the small 2 way speaker, to make it different and still not to advanced! love all you do btw, keep it up young man :)
@sonnoradesign
@sonnoradesign 8 місяців тому
Hey Janras! Thanks for watching! I haven’t worked with the 225’s yet. Have you tried to work on WinISD software to calculate the box? Maybe there is some info on Parts Express.

Hey Chinmey. Maybe. Getta do some measurements but if it’s turned to the back it would probably increase bass response in room.
@chinmeysway
@chinmeysway 5 місяців тому
@@sonnoradesignoh I like it on the front, I mean the port being a couple inches from the bottom might look nifty or if the sides extended lower maybe idunno six to ten inches. Just aesthetic ideas; unclear if it would sound better or not. Just less reflections off of floor or desk. Impressive video and build tho I wish I could buy them or trade you for a painting/ fine art artwork!
