English is the international language only due to the historical timing of the British empire, naval dominance and industrial revolution. So it has bugger all to do with democracy, its all about commerce, increasing interconnectedness and timing. E.g. if the above criteria had happened circa 200 A.D. we'd all be speaking Latin, so that's a plus! The world wide web was invented by an Englishman, and given to the world for free (obviously not American then).😊
