It's absolute nonsense, the idea that Russia gets to completely violate and destroy Ukraine to somehow protect Russia from a mythical Nato invasion of Russia is beyond absurd. Russia invaded because it is a nihilist fascist state that wanted to conquer Ukraine and take it illegally and by force against Ukraine's will for colonialist reasons.

I too have a background in international political science and have been following the evolution of this conflict since the violent, U.S. sponsored coup in 2014. I fully agree with Professor Sachs. By the way, Democracy now was very slow to understand what is really going on in this conflict.

So they use that fear of the change to demonize what China does because it's different from what we do. and if it's different, it's easy to say that it's bad. The USA knows very well that we could change to a more cooperative system, but that would undermine their power. That's why they spend so much on the military, they will (try to) destroy everything that could compete with them, even if it's by force.
