No matter how much other UKpostsrs that review things say their opinions “are their own” when a company sends them things, I cannot believe they’re not biased. Thanks for spending your money and having skin in the game when reviewing these products, George. You’re the best!

@JohnVito @SilverHammerSurveillance. I agree! Even free products can make the reviewer bias. Although small, most wont claim it does but it does! Its not about what the reviewer says, its about what the reviewer doesn't say. Even the IRS considers Free Product as Income so its a ways of payment. But the biggest issue I see is most reviewers disclose incorrectly and think about sponsorships disclosure incorrectly. Most reviewers think they only need to disclose free products or paid sponsors on each video, but they fail to disclose about their previous videos sposnor. Once a brand is paid sponsor, anytime the reviewer reviews that same brand even if it is not specifically paid on that product, they need to disclose they were paid previously by the same brand. Once a sponsor, always a sponsor in the review world. BTW: there is no difference between a review, a spotlight, a highlight, an ad, or any other term that the influencer wants to come up with so they feel ethical. Its all the same to the consumer so it all has to be disclosed once there is a relationship with a free product or money exchange no matter what!

Yeah, I don’t know if anyone out there realizes this, but I’ve never once done a “sponsored video”. I’ve never been officially paid by a company to review their product (not a single one). And I’m going to have to disagree with you on the products sent to me for free (which for me has been a small handful-by my choice). If you think I’m going to have bias because a company sent me a product for free, you haven’t been watching me long & don’t know me very well. I can assure you, whatever I’m talking about in my videos, I’m 100% telling it like it is. The way I look at it, I’m doing them a favor, not the other way around. If I don’t like the product & give a bad review, that’s their problem, not mine. Send me a better product next time, is all I can say to them. Heck, In one of my last videos I said “screw you Netgear, screw you”. Not too many UKpostsrs would say that. If I don’t hear from them again, so what. I run a full time business in addition to doing UKposts. I’m doing just fine financially. I 95% fund my Channel myself. I don’t need free products to keep me afloat. But if it’s a product that interests me & they want to send it to me for free, I’ll try it. If I really like it, then I have no problem being a “fanboy”. Because when it comes down to it, I love tech and have a huge passion for it. So if I like it, I’ll be like a little kid at Christmas. But I can tell you I’m stalked by companies everyday & turn down 95% (or more). And again, never once did a sponsored video (by design). I don’t need their money. Never will.

I own this POS for a few years. I’m constantly having issue with the WiFi dropping or the router crashing. Amplifi encrypts the logs so I can’t troubleshoot. It’s on a power condition UPS and I’ve checked channels for interference. It’s been reset and replaced and I’m still having issues. My advice, DO NOT BUY!

One note to point out for you viewers, it's more cost effect to buy two Alien routers than to buy the mest set beasue the 2nd mesh is "married" and it any of the two down, you are pretty much stuck but with two routers, can can still have one working if that make sense. Thank you for this informative video. A couple of questions: 1st -- You said that adding an additional router or a mesh point prevents you from using Homekit. What functionality do you lose by not being Homekit compatible? (I'm using an older Orbi mesh system and I had no idea that there was such a thing as a Homekit compatible router.) 2nd -- What are the advantages of running multiple routers as opposed to a router and mesh points? I have an Orbi mesh router and one satellite. The coverage in our two-story home of just over 3,000 square feet is excellent. I even get coverage anywhere in our yard (which isn't all that large), including a detached shop building.
@GeorgeLangabeer
@GeorgeLangabeer 11 місяців тому
1. There’s not much to the HomeKit compatibility. It allows you to set some privacy levels to your devices, but the Alien pretty much takes care of that on its own. 2. The routers are slightly more powerful & offer 4 gigabit ports instead of just one like the mesh points offer. So you can hard wire more devices throughout your home with the routers.

Hey George, thanks for the review. I'm currently using a Linksys EA 6350 and it works fine if all I want to do is surf the internet on the laptop or iPad. Where I'm having connection problems is with 2 smart items. One is a smart garage door opener mounted in the garage and only works with 2.4mhz and the other is the Rainbird ESP-me sprinkler controller mounted to an exterior wall . I'll say the distance where the router is to each devise is located is about 40 feet but in two different directions and there are 4 walls in between the router and each device. I constantly get communication error with the Rainbird controller. The garage door gives an off line error at times. Internet speed is 400mbps, With testing I get close to the 400mbps down load but only 14 -18mbps upload if I'm hardwired into the router and 56mbps down load and 7-9 upload if I use wifi. I was thinking about adding a couple NetGear WAX ??? hardwired back the the router through a POE switch. I will also say I'm new to the smart home hobby and need some advice. thanks

Thanks for the review! Many people complain about fan noise - what's your experience, especially with having one in your bedroom? Btw., do you know whether it works with the U6 Extender as well? I don't see the point having three routers in the house. Thx
@GeorgeLangabeer
@GeorgeLangabeer 2 місяці тому
You’re welcome & thanks for watching! I didn’t notice the fan noise at all (& one was right by my head where I sleep). Extenders “extend”, but they can actually weaken your signal. These routers extend & strengthen. So it’s well worth having the routers instead of the extenders. As far as having 3, each house is different. I wanted one for each floor of my home. Most people could get away with having 2 (or 1 for that matter).

I’m going crazy like you. I had Eero, then Eero pro tri, then Orbi 960. I’m trying desperately to hold Homekit functions and thread. 14k sqft house, 4 very high use kids, 14 HomePods, Sonos system, large outdoor area, 12 security cams, 8 apple TV’s and who knows how many iPhones and iPads. I have wasted 50 hours min of my life fixing and testing by trial and error. No luck. Works one day perfectly, does the next. Slow and then fast. Thread and then dragging and lost. Mesh is key. Thank you for this video. I’ll try this system. I have 5GB fiber to house. But I’ll deal with 1GB if it actually works. One big question: after I extend, does that mean HomeKit is out of picture? Am I relegated to shortcuts for automation? I love that I felt like I was listening to myself on your video. I would use more colorful metaphors about Orbi but almost the same issues.
@GeorgeLangabeer
@GeorgeLangabeer 10 місяців тому
Definitely sounds like we’re both in the same boat in a lot of ways. Yeah, unfortunately you lose HomeKit integration if you do the mesh, but HomeKit routers really only gain you a couple privacy features, not much else. I don’t feel like I’m missing much.

On this mesh system if your not using the band steering that’s automatically enabled because you need to have seperete SSIDs for 2.4ghz only devices . I read the amplify Configuring SSIDs article and am confused because the router 3 SSIDs available , 1 WiFi 6 5Ghz. 1 WiFi 6 2.4ghz and 1 WiFi 5 5Ghz to be able to enable and in their setting it shows like example of SSID name AMPLIFI-Alien-Routrer-2x or 5x. However the mesh point on that page shows a completely different SSID than any on the router ? All I want is 2 SSIDS one for 2.4ghz only devices like smart plugs , cameras etc, and the 5Ghz network for computer, phone , etc . This is very confusing with Amplify ? So I guess my main big question is CAN THE MESH POINT HAVE THE SAME SSIDS AS THE ROUTER ??

Welcome to the Alien family :) As stated, this router works like a champ. I'm thinking of buying another one because I have 4 outdoor cameras (all same brand) & they have the option to view the cam in SD or QHD. Three of them work perfect on QHD but the third one (furthest one from the house as it's attached to the shed) stutters/freezes in QHD mode so I have to run it in standard definition. It's not the camera itself because I swapped them out as a test. So maybe if I get another Alien & put it by the back sliding door it will work in QHD. The other thing that is weird as far as speed; I have 1.2 gigabit service and when I run a speed test from my iPhone 15 (and from my old iPhone 12) I get around 700 mbps. But when I plug my Chromebook (wifi 5) into the Alien I get speeds around 500-650 mbps. Today (for the first time) I plugged my Chromebook into the Alien and during the speed test it spiked up to 1.2 but then settled down at around 670 (with an gigabit ethernet usb adapter & I have two USB 3.0 ports). Then when I unplug Ethernet from my Chromebook I get faster wireless speeds then plugged in most of the time. Just one time I want to plug into one of the LAN ports, run a test and see it in the 900's (my modem is 2.5 gig capable from one port). I only have around 30 devices in use with the Alien & the only hiccup is the cam on the shed not running in HD. Also, I'm not sure of the IOT benefit. I know what's for but I'm not sure what the benefit is of using IOT on the router. I might be getting a new MacBook Air with wifi 6 and I'm curious what speeds I'd get to it both via LAN & wifi. Great video & cheers!

When you say it works better what do you mean? I can only assume that you mean it's plug and play and it does the job, of you really think a free telco router does a better job than a more expensive after market router than you most likely don't know how to set up an after market router. Yeah sure you plug it in the wall out of the box and don't have to worry about setting it up because the telco company has already done it all for you. But all you get is the bare basics and if you're happy with that maybe don't go spending more money on an after market router.

Hey all I know this is off topic from this video but I am in need of battery operated camera that works solely with HomeKit. This is for an apartment so the most pain free install is preferred. Thank you to any responses in advance.

If you require it to be a battery camera, there really is no good way to buy just one camera. So this is your cheapest option: amzn.to/43M70Fa

I’m just now starting my HomeKit journey. Did you say HomeKit no longer works if you’re using a mesh unit with the router?? I’ve been leaning towards getting this router and could probably get away with just the router by itself but that’s kind of disappointing if mesh kills the HomeKit functionality. Best of luck kicking cancer’s ass too!
@GeorgeLangabeer
@GeorgeLangabeer 8 місяців тому
When I say that, I mean the router itself won’t be in HomeKit. All your other HomeKit devices will work just fine.
@jeremybizzano5448
@jeremybizzano5448 8 місяців тому
@@GeorgeLangabeer Thanks for clarifying that. I’m glad it would still work. Adding a mesh point (I don’t even know if I’m using the correct terminology as I currently use an ancient Apple Time Capsule 500 GB router) would probably benefit me if I put any holiday light controllers or other devices out front. What benefit is there to the router appearing in HomeKit?

I’m wondering if your problem with Orbi was channel related? While I am very interested in Amplify, and almost pulled the trigger, I solved my latest 169 IP dhcp problem by changing the 5G channel. I’m pretty sure you played around with channels since you seem the type of guy that goes all the way to troubleshoot. Nice video though. By the way, I have an SXR80 Orbi router, 2 satellites. Keep the videos coming. Cheers.

I did mess around with the Channels with no luck. I have moved since this video & in my new place I have the new ORBI 970 Mesh system. Best router I’ve ever owned…as it should be for $2300. Thanks for the comment & thanks for watching!

@@GeorgeLangabeer the 970 was also on my list when I was frustrated this past couple of days. Man you have always the latest and greatest. What do you do with the “old” routers? The 970 to me was standing out for handling 200+ devices. I believe Amplify is 120+, right? So you liking the 970 better than amplify? Got a review video for it?
@GeorgeLangabeer
@GeorgeLangabeer 3 місяці тому
@JoaoAugustoCharnet Depends on the router…sometimes I keep them in case I switch back, sometimes I sell them on marketplace, or sometimes I’m immediately unhappy & return them for a refund. The ORBI 970 is by far the best mesh system I’ve used. Very happy with it. I did an initial impressions video, but haven’t done a full review yet. Define “HomeKit Compatible”….Last I checked actual HomeKit Compatibility was only in standalone configurations with firmware 3.7.0 or above. Are you telling me there was an update to include mesh points? I haven’t used this router for over 6 months, so can’t verify it myself. I can’t find anything from them saying that’s true?
