Hello friends in this video I have build a Automatic thread cutting machine.
in this machine I have used 2 nema 17 stepper motor and on 775 DC motor
one stepper motor to turn job and one stepper motor to move blade
forward and reverse.

The video cut off too soon before it finished cutting likely because the last gear didn't space right with the first, he was also holding the gear in fingers to hide that flaw behind the fingers which hold it, I keep pointing out flaws in all his videos, other people just praise it obliviois to these problems. The teeth of the gear he's holding also appear inconsistant and so impractical. While the video itself presents a unique construction on diy, that's all it seems to be good at. It seems like he makes these videos for views and to get sponsorship from his jlc pcb referal, not concerned about quality or perfection.

YEP. if you are still going to make plastic gears just use 3d printer....
@kenengel620
@kenengel620 Рік тому
I agree that 3d printing produces excellent gears. I'd like to point out, though, that this video is showing basic construction techniques and while the final product doesn't produce quality gears I don't think it would take much to find-tune the machine code to get better results. I think time is a big consideration when making online content like this. When you're trying to publish content on a regular basis you can't always get perfection before deadline.

I think he cuts the circles from sheet plastic. He makes some of the supports in other videos the same way. I think with a proper cutting wheel and some fine tuning of the machine code this could be a viable project but I think I'll stick to 3d printing my gears. 🤣

pretty cool, but I'd like to see how two of these gears would mesh. I have a hard time imagining they would be of much use unless the corners were rounded
@greggv8
@greggv8 Рік тому
A decent approximation of involute gear teeth can be done with a multi tooth cutter with straight sides. The first cut carves a straight sided slot in the center, while the two cutters to either side cut those teeth partially at a different angle due to the rotation. Rotate one tooth and cut again. Each tooth gets three facets at different angles and the gear being cut only has to make one full revolution. This process is best for gears that can be run together for a while at looser mesh with lapping compound to round off the edges between facets, then cleaned off and installed at correct running mesh with lube.

Seeing as he made his own cutter blade the profile is not going to be perfect. Nor did the stepper do a good job on turning the plastic disc, or it's diameter was wrong for the amount of teeth.

@ferrumignis
@ferrumignis Рік тому
@@FlexDRG It's not just "imperfect" it's literally the inverse of the shape it needs to be. He ground the cutter to look like a gear tooth profile instead of the space between the teeth. The "gears" this cutter produces are completely useless.

First gear, quick cut away before you show the tooth misalignment where the final cut is, then using your fingers to cover up the error. Ok 13 seconds in, let's see what else you got.

@conorstewart2214
@conorstewart2214 Рік тому
How is this excellent? It produces gears but without a proper gear profile, probably without proper spacing so by the time you get round to the end of the gear it doesn’t line up, notice how we don’t see it cut a full gear or see a cut gear on its own, their fingers are covering part of it. They showed they have a 3D printer so it is much more precise to print a gear rather than use this method which has a fixed tooth size, a janky cutter, doesn’t cut a proper gear profile and may not even line up right. We also don’t know if you cut two of these gears if you could even mesh them together, I would guess you probably can’t, or if you do manage it, then they won’t turn well. It is just another pointless project made to farm views.

This channel is supposedly about technology and not entertainment. Of course, in order to gain views, everything is allowed. So don't play victims. The hulk was assembled without further ado (without technical specifications). It is not known if it works well or not. It is not known who is sponsoring the incomplete video. It is not known which Arduino or the program he used. Etc etc.

Could easily see uses for using these gears as data with a simple toggle switch. Looks very similar to gears we used in rotary phone days as the way to store phone numbers for mechanical auto dialers on billboards in train stations and airports that had one button for each hotel/taxi and a phone handle. Was done by cutting teeth out of gears at certain intervals to form the number.

@mattw7949
@mattw7949 Рік тому
Agreed. A decent first effort, but the maker should now look into the proper shape for gear teeth. One option is to make your cutter the proper shape, and have a different cutter for each range of gear. The other option is to use a cutter with a "rack" profile and index it laterally along with the gear blank rotation. The second way lets you cut any tooth count with a single cutter.

A stepper does a full rotation in a whole number of steps. He most likely manually advances to the next step, so there are no "steps per rotation" to adjust.

This relies on the holding torque of the stepper to keep the gears rotation during a cut. Any material unevenness or cutter asymetry will throw the cut out of orientation.

A very fine pitch lead screw driven through a reduction gear drive might get around that limited division. Thing is... start with how many teeth you want... what ratio is desired. Yeah... tooth profile is rubbish.

The product is not a gear. Only made for look, not really to work, I guess. gears have specific tooth shape which allows them to work. One other thing is teeth spacing - it would only work for some even number of teeth, with direct stepper motor rotation. Much finer rotation is generally required.

You should create an algorithm that allows you to make any tooth profile -- not only the inverse copy is your cutting wheel. And it's definitely bad idea -- mount a gear directly onto the motor shaft. These motors are not so precise and strong, so you need a reduction to increase torque and precision.

I'm sorry, but that's not a gear. Gears have very specific tooth profiles, and have to meet pre-existing standards, so that they can mesh with other gears. In its current form, that is just a machine to make notched plastic disks. I don't know of many needs for those. Even the plastic gears in toys are made with more precision. The printed plastic parts would probably have to be replaced with something more rigid, maybe carbon fiber filled nylon at the very least, before they would be rigid enough to support the precision necessary to cut (properly called hobbing) gears from aluminum or brass that can actually be used to transmit power. It was a nice try, but requires more development.

LOL very broad brush your using there... just as an fyi one of many definitions of a gear is "a toothed wheel that works with others to alter the relation between the speed of a driving mechanism (such as the engine of a vehicle) and the speed of the driven parts (the wheels)" They don't have to be that specific.
