The Crafty Organizer Fantastic solution! I was thinking you could also use fabric to staple to the frame to get a taught finish and then attach quarter rounds to hide the staples. I love your ‘where there’s a will there’s a way’ approach. Such a great example for your daughters 💓

The swing hinge gate is a clever solution. Instead of the shelving paper (contact paper) a sheer or opaque fabric may be easier to work with. May I suggest placing a single or double bar vertically in the center of the panel for added strength to handle the daily pushing on the panel (like on screen doors). You have an easy listening, pleasant calm speaking voice.

I wish you didn't have to worry about your budget, but I am glad you are not like other crafters/organizers when they look at something at IKEA or another store and say it was a reasonable price. When I see the cost, my eyes bulge out and I am like oh no that isn't. I like how you come up with simple yet nice looking ways to make your space work. Thank you for sharing. I am the type of person that if a bookshelf doesn't work for books, I then turn it into toy storage for my kids or a "dresser" for clothes. Instead of getting rid of it because it doesn't work, I use it for something else.

When I was married I always helped my ex on projects but as a single person now for me it’s much more rewarding when I’ve done it myself, or as soon as my son was old enough , I got him to help so he knows what to do when in the future has his own home. Hi Norrine! I like the style of the panels with the Redi-Shades. I think it looks professional and polished. You mentioned swapping for the shelf liner, and your concern about it being a little to pliable. So my suggestion might fall into that category for you also. But, I'm giving it to you anyway! I was thinking maybe a heavy duty frosted shower liner? $15 +/-. Thick, conformable material. Water proof/resistant. Frosted for privacy. More than likely left over product for another project. Plus, you wont have to worry about it creasing, or ripping like I'm sure the paper material of the Redi-Shade will easily fall victim to. Honestly, you could opt for a standard shower curtain that is frosted with a design of your choice, instead of just a liner. And, of course you dont have to get one of those glossy plastic things. I love the fabric style shower curtains, I know those a more expensive. But you have to live in your space. Why not choose something pleasing to your eye! TYFS! I love all your recent content. Well, I love all of it, but you know what I mean! 💘💘💘

Mam, This video is 3 years old but, most supplies at Home Depots you can still buy and I like to look at ideas. I love your voice and you always explain everything very well. I have been watching you since 2019.. when I first started watching you I was living at my Mom's and life was so great. She was a young 80 year old with lots of spunk more than I have. In 2020 she was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer and in 2021 she passed away. I was praying and hoping I could buy her little house and she was hopeful too and liked my ideas on how to buy out my siblings. I had taken care of the yard on my own dime for a couple of years as she did not want to charge me for rent she wanted me to save for a new car but I wanted to help where I could. I liked yardwork and one neighbor had uncontrollable grape vines she promised my mom she would take care of and never did. Another neighbor had a black berry tree hanging so far over and the berries would stain the patio and my Mom and I almost fell a couple of times skipping on them. I was instrumental on getting it cut down. They didn't want to cook with them and how many baked goods could we make at the risk of having a serious injury. One thing my Mom greatly frown on was the years I was paying rent and that's why she offered me to come live with her. Her house was perfect but, her executor fought me for me wanting to buy it and he gave me a date to move out. Apartments with elevators were still under covid restrictions and I have a disabled leg. I searched and searched for one floor apts or ones with patio entries as I so wanted to grow my veggies again come spring. My only choice to move in within a 3 week time frame was in one of the first little neighborhoods in Arlington (VA). I am on the 3rd floor without an elevator. Laundry is a hardship as it's not in my building. I am on the 3rd floor. My space is 610 square feet smallest place I have ever lived. My Mom left me her long harvest table with 6 chairs a wonderful newly recovered couch her rocker she nursed me in, her bedroom set which is quite large. Her Asian real rug she bought 31 years ago which is great it covers 80% of the living room which is the requirement. I am paying as much rent as the apartments with elevators pools gyms plus I pay utilities on a low salary so I take all the OT I can get. I am calling this tiny Flat my Giant Shadow box with my Mom's treasures and my own and I also call it my stepping stone until I get into someplace nicer. The complex is registered with the historic society so I am not allowed to use molly bolts or nails. It limits me what I can hang and so I have very white walls in my living room and bedroom and the only area with decor is the foyer. I have a large serving window so on the windowsill I have precious things of my Mom's and mine. My kitchen is very tiny with only 4 decent cabinets to be shared with food and dishes. My Dad made my Mom a bookcase long ago for her sewing room and I use it for cookbooks on the top shelf and serving dishes, holiday serving dishes, pressure cooker , etc. I wash dishes and use the dishwasher for storage. The microwave that came with the place is where I keep all my foil and saran wrap, etc and I use my own microwave which is deeper and higher inside. I went from April 13th to August 19th without a refrigerator and my last resort was to report management to the state health dept in order to get a fridge. My bedroom is very small with my Mom's bedroom set, my sewing cabinet and a few treasures of mine I refinished from years ago. I literally am a trail lady. Storage is too expensive, I am living in a sea of boxes in the living room. I have no company because there isn't a great place to sit. I have a very small linen closet and 2 very small coat closet and bedroom closet. I come home extremely tired from my job, most days I am a laborer and I go to bed by 8 and back at work by 8 and Sept and Oct I work every Saturday. In my eyes on the walls with thumb tacs I have phrases to build me up as I go out the door. I come home and open my front door and the piles in the living room attack my mind and I get very overwhelmed and depressed. In my mind at work earlier in the day I am psyched to come home and redo my bedroom using crates from Michaels in a diff way to be more useful for storage of sewing supplies fabric other craft supplies but by 6pm when I click out and get home I am so tired and I see this mess I do not know where to begin. I use to love to decorate and my mgr at my other apartment loved my place and often showed it to people looking for one bedrooms when the complex didn't have one to show. I lived there for 20 years and it was over 1000 SQ FT with a huge balcony facing a fountain. My rent then I thought was high my rent now is higher for half the size. I am praying for God to lead me to a perfect little home next summer. I am not fancy my only wishes are for enough land to have a small veggie garden and plant my Mom's favorite flowers. I would like a gas stove and I hope for a carport because it's hard cleaning off my car in the snow with a disabled leg. I hope for a washer and dryer and a nice little sewing/craft room. I didn't mean to write a novel. I did not know your Dad had been I'll I am sorry. My Dad is 85 and lives within walking distance to me. Every Sunday we go to church together and have dinner on Wed nite. Your yard looks very cool. I hope your children are well. I never knew your circumstances until tonight. Blessings, Rebekah

I was so blessed to check UKposts and come across this tutorial. I am also a single parent with a three bedroom apartment where four people reside. I have two children that still at home. My mom lives here as well. So I also gave up my room for my daughter to have her own room. Which left me in the living. Then I decided to cut my dining room to fit a twin bed. I needed to hid my bed especially when I'm laying down if company comes by. . I thank you so much for this idea

I had to have my dad live with me recently. We gave him the dining room and ate in the foyer, literally. I used bookcases and just didnt have a door on the divider (I had to shower him so he was dressed in the bathroom). He had advanced dementia which progressed to combative dementia the last 6 mos he was here, doing hospice at the last few weeks, just died on Mother’s Day. Bookcases are my go to. I buy used 😊 Once these 2 here and I lived in a basement and there was 1 actual room (with the bathroom off it), the rest was all open. I used bkcases there also to carve out a room for my girls. I had to improvise a kitchen around the laundry tub too! I did it with used things. I made a pretty awesome kitchen. Nothing at all “decor” or “cute” about it, just function, but I cook alot so function was most needed. Ppl would be amazed at what I did with “scraps of stuff” they called it lol

Since you’re using the one divider as a door, I definitely would’ve gone with sandwiching the screen between two pieces of wood for the frame. Rather than just the one piece of wood, the two pieces with the screen between them would give you more privacy and make it a sturdier door. But even doubling up the amount of wood it would only add another five bucks or so to the cost, still seriously well worth it. Awesome idea thank you.

Norrine, the reason why the saw was difficult to use on the screen is that the teeth of the saw are bent a midge alternating to the left and right. The teeth of a steak knife are straight, and the screen is probably very soft. Love your project! Stay well!

Also the teeth on your steak knife are further apart so you can cut that soft meat where as the teeth on the saw being closer together are designed for a harder material and smoother cut on each side of the cut
@Isleskye
@Isleskye 4 роки тому
I agree that the correct saw blade regardless of saw tool makes a big difference depending on the media being cut and whether the cut needs to be pristine or rough cut. Fewer teeth results in rougher cut. Think of the mess one gets cutting melamine covered particleboard with a lower toothed blade versus the smooth (less melamine chip out) cut of a many toothed blade. We learn so much Doing It Ourselves. I enjoyed the tip of using cheap wood stock in a novel way. Give it a good enough sand and you have good enough interior wood for light weight projects. Sealer before paint might make it even better. Really made me consider employing this material inside the house more.

Priscilla’s comment made me think how good a series would be of several different “out of the box uses” for those light canvas drop cloths. I’ve read of folks using them for drapes inside and out. Did you use them for your cabana drapes Norrine? Cheaper than yardage fabric and very organic looking. I’ve got one or two of them around. Sorta seeing a summer bedspread with faux suede trim in my head. Wonder if it would need 2 drop cloths for a queen? When I was a kid mom made me curtains out of printed flower sacks. I’m 77. Once she made my doll clothes from a used/torn WW2 silk parachute. I’ve made comforters, daybed covers and curtains out of sheets. Again cheaper fabric than buying yard goods.

Oh! And I love the fabric panel idea someone suggested! You could even do 2 different fabrics so from the living space it matches but from your bedroom it matches in there also! You could also hang like a jute twine across either side to hang pictures from. I think they are gorgeous the way they are! Just ideas to think about.....

I think you did a wonderful job. I live in my living room but since we have a family room, I've just claimed the whole room for myself and I have sliding doors to close it off. I did work on a project that I felt was needed and it was cheap and fun. I used to quilt but no longer and i also love scrapbooking paper and have tons of it. I needed to make a partition between our family room and kitchen which is a space from the countertop to the bottom of the cabinet. I used the tri fold science fair displays and taped two together then covered them with scrapbook paper.........one side in a wonky type quilt for the family room and the other side in a linear design for the kitchen. I love the fact that it's something pretty to look at when I'm at my computer and I don't get distracted when people are in the kitchen This is a little late but I loved what you did in your garage and I even had my husband watch the recaps..........you did an incredible job.

Another idea I saw on another UKposts channel, is the 8ft tall foam board insulation to make a room divider, very cheap. The gentleman covered them with fabric. Your project was great! I love how you use a budget for every day people.

I would have just slept in the living rm lol (bag bedding to put in a closet while we hsled in the living room during the day). But actually I would have made the kids do it as then I would have my room to go at end of the day and BE ALONE. As a single hsling mom for waaaaaaay long, I need BIG living rooms and my room. (Widowed very young with 3 tiny kids & then decades later, divorced with 2 more tiny kids. I think its been my career, single momming 🤦‍♀️)

I love this! However instead of the 1/2 square pieces of wood you can use a thin trim but still sandwich it together. By using the trim you can add a tiny bit of a decorative touch. It will be by the crown molding in the store. Make sure your miter saw is square and cut the ends at 45 degree angle (depending on the trim it could be slightly different the kind I used was rounded so it was like 37.5) but I love the idea!!!! My dream is to have my own house for me and my girls and this just made it possible for me to look at a 2 bedroom differently! Thank you for all your ideas!!!!

Glad to hear that your dad is doing well. This was an awesome idea. My laundry room is in the garage and my cat can hear the sound when I unlock and/or open the door and if I'm not careful she darts through to be lost in the midst of containers, shop tools, and a mountain of other things stored in the garage until she wants to be found. I want to close off access to the garage so that I don't have to worry that she will get into the garage. Today's video has given me an idea for a solution to keep Miss Elbe out of trouble in the garage. Thank you for your creativity.

For the non adhesive contact paper definitely sandwich it. You can use small quarter round also. If it’s to flexible make it look like an widow with sections. That will strengthen it. You did great with the space you had, way to think out of the box.

Great idea, and very economical. Like you, I was looking for a privacy divider to block the view of my son's basement lounge area and bedroom when I came down the stairs. He's a terrible slob, and it was actually depressing to see such monumental messes in my house whenever I went down to do laundry. I decided my divider needed to be stationary, so opted to just mount some nice plastic tablecloths from the Dollar Tree to the back of some white plastic shelving units I already had. It shielded me from the offending messes and gave me an attractive space for decorator items and practical storage, much like the wall behind you. Tablecloths and double-sided mounting tape came in at less than $10.00! Works for me!!!

I love this. Before I took over my sons old room, I had my craft stuff in the living room. And had supplies in all the other rooms. I searched for a room divider that was wide and not wicked expensive. I I concidered putting some shelves to divide the room. You door would have bee perfect. I'm a messy crafter so hiding my mess was my goal. I too have a house built in the 40s. Nothing is square. I feel your pai and its frustrating . I guess that's what gives older houses character.
