Thank you very much. It's good when new stories appear in 3D. And there is an opportunity to feel like you are in magnificent Florence again. My English is not that good, but thanks to Google Translate I was able to understand the meaning of the romantic story taking place. And I even thought I recognized Keeley in one of the episodes. Technically, I was interested in the possibility of combining a VR 180 3D image and a window with a flat 3D image. This is an interesting technique that I don't know how to implement yet. Thanks to everyone who created this film for the opportunity to plunge into the atmosphere of this beautiful city.

Thank you so much! We love the Looking Glass and it is the only physical display that actually show 3D on a 3D camera (pretty Meta there). We research hard on the topic and so glad we find the solution - and it is a time traveling device as well, just need special clearance 😂

Thanks for this nice piece of work! I especially like those scenes, when Mia was addressing the viewer, when her and Nico were chatting in the cafe, and when they run away/towards the viewer. Those gave me the most impressive feeling of being presence there with them!

Fun to watch on Quest 3. Can't wait to see in Apple Vision Pro. I'm sure the production value here is best-in class based on current gear, but what would in take to make the perceived clarity/sharpness to be on par with a traditional 4K film? Is this a lens limitation? Sensor resolution limitation? Playback horsepower limitation? I'm imagining that it would take a lot of pixels.

All of them. First we do not have shadow depth of field - everything has to be in focus in VR180 which make it looks super different from traditional film. This is a technical thing that I don't think we can ever solve. As SDoF is NEVER a human eye thing. Human eye (for prefect vision) see everything clear in the real world and do auto focus adjustment. For resolution, we did the math, we need minimum 12K or better 16K to have the magic windows (AVP Foveated Rendering windows) in close to 4K - which is current 2D specs. This is 8K so we still like half resolution away to match 2d resolution. There is no sensor big enough for that. Then there is color representation, HDR10 on AVP and lens sharpness. Fisheye has edge sharpeness issue and CA problem - it is just physic. If we shoot on ARRI S35 or SONY Venice 2 - they we can have 16-bit to match HDR10 true to life color. But this is Canon lol. Shooting on Venice 2 (Ocean of Light) is super expensive to finish in post. So limitation of budget is also a key here. Then we need bigger crew, longer time to post and BIGGER computer to process 16K. Premiere can only cut in 8K max. Resolve can cut in 16K but will take weeks to render... so lots of limitation but we are working hard to break it!

Hey Hugh, what is the best workflow to make immersive videos for the VP with the Canon setup? Are you using Canon's vr utility into resolve and that's it?

Yes in short I am. But technically no. I use Canon EOS Utility, then fix problem in Resolve Fusion, Mistika VR and then After Effects for comping. Back to Mistika Boutique for more 3D comping, back to Resolve for color and graphics design, back to Premiere for comping, then to resolve for denoise, rendering and some AI. Then FFMPEG to encode. So... not easy and lots of round trip. Also explain why the image quality degrade a little bit.

Play fine in the Quest 3 UKposts app (VR180 3D) but when played in the browser on the headset it's only a 2D flat file.

Yes, Quest 3 WebXR browse does not suport VR180 yet. But this film is featuring inside Meta Quest TV app. That is the best quality so far (link also in description). Until Apple Vision Pro version is out next week.

I have a. Vision Pro. So the only way to view it immersively is via a downloaded file ? Can the Quest 3 folks view it immersively in UKposts or is it via download?

Quest 3 you can view it directly on Quest TV in the highest quality - arguably better than Vision Pro as it is mastered on Quest TV in 8K 60fps. The link is under Viewing Instruction. For Vision Pro - we are still mastering the piece for download viewing. It will take us coupled more days to do Dolby Atoms mixing. I will let you know when the Vision Pro version is ready. Cheers!

I am looking for a vr player that can play 7680x7680/8192x8192/60fps in 360 stereo, do you know that vision pro has one?

Vision Pro does not support this high format yet. I think it is M2 limit in processing. So Foveated render need to kick in for this to become reality. Display is one thing but most people forget about processing and decoding. So short answer - no one can do it YET. But let us know if you find some player can do FOV render.

I hope you don't mind if I say a few things that are totally unrelated to the story and just my opinions on the state of technology for 180° VR videos. I watched using the UKposts app on a Quest 3. When it's blown up to fill your whole field of view, the resolution feels similar to 480P on a 2D screen. That's just the nature of viewing in wide field of view VR and also the reason why people are so often disapointed by the passthrough camera view. However, I think some things could be improved on the OS and application side of things. I feel that especially skin tones on the Quest 3 don't look accurate, so improved color calibration and the ability to tweak the image (more than just brightness and gamma) would be welcome. As fas the app goes, I wonder if something could be done to help left/right image alignment when you tilt your head slightly? Similarly, I bet when you move sideways, it would be possible to compensate slightly for that and then slowly slide to the center again over time. (Who knows, maybe there's already stuff like that behind the scenes in the UKposts app and I didn't notice.) One thing that distracted me in the film were water droplets on the lenses (especially since they obviously don't match left/right). Some kind of software tool could probably be created to fix those issues by using clean footage from one side to repair the other? Another distracting thing was the wiggling of the road when the camera moved forward. Is that just lens distortion that causes the left/right to not match up consistently?

I don't mind at all. First this is really a Immersive Film for the latest Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest 3. UKposts VR is more for promotion as I have a lot bigger reach on UKposts with my following. But UKposts VR compressed the hack out of the film in 4K - that is why all the problem you pointed out. So watch it on Meta Quest TV directly here: bit.ly/49dsUEp or download the uncompressed version onto Vision Pro. For rain drop disparity problem it is on purpose on this film as Director want it. For VR180 should use technocrane to move but we don't have that kind of budget on this film :(

Why is your resolution 4096x2048? Is this the same stereo that plays on pico and quest3 and vp? I am currently looking at pico4 and the stereo is wrong, it is very stretched by the y axis.

I don’t have a Pico to test. Is it Pico UKposts VR app? The video is 8192x4096 if you use Skybox VR Player to play (pretty sure also available on Pico) - on Meta Quest TV is also 8K but you will need a Quest 3

We provide the original less compressed file to download directly into Vision Pro: www.patreon.com/posts/dolce-mia-apple-98567867 - then you can airdrop into AVP and use Moon Player to play it. Anyother compress steaming way is not ideal for Vision Pro now as it is such a high resolution display.

You put a lot of effort into these videos but your instructions are absolutely terrible. We would love to enjoy your content but please do a better job of having it ready before publishing. You’ve titled this video for Apple Vision Pro but if I understand correctly in the description it’s not yet ready to view on an Apple Vision Pro? So what’s the point of publishing it? And how are we to know when you’ve updated it so it can be viewed on an Apple Vision Pro?

Fair. This is a massive production and we do not want to miss the Valentine's day release as this is designed for that. We have a huge Meta Quest audiences as well and this film it is launching on Quest TV first. Vision Pro, we will have 2 versions coming up in less than 2 - 3 days - both immersive video and spatial video versions. Vision Pro requires Dolby Atmos mixing and a better compression process - so it usually takes longer to finish. We are doing our best to entertain our followers. Thank you for being patient.
