5:29-5:42 I had this same issue putting together my LS engine less than 4 days ago, using an inexpensive ratcheting ring compactor. 2 things in conjunction that I found worked were: 1) ensuring the piston was centered both vertically and horizontally in the compressor as I tightened it, while ensuring at least 10mm of piston skirt stuck out the bottom so that when placed on top of the cylinder, I could use the skirt to help guide the piston into the bore and center the compressor above it. 2) when inserting the piston, I had to give it a truly solid thwack so that it would fly out of the compressor and deep down into the cylinder in one go. Applying oil on the outside diameter of the piston and rings, and the inner bore of both the cylinder and the compressor helped out a lot in this endeavor (and no, I would never install pistons into cylinder bores that weren't pre-oiled first).

Can I just say that for someone at the age of 32 just now getting into fast cars, this channel is the absolute best. You all break it down and use pictures and cartoons lol it’s the best. Finally got my Silverado how I want it. Surprisingly the JDM scene looks like a lot of fun coming from a country boy 😂

These teardown videos are so cool and so fun to watch

Just look at the quality of those cast aluminum parts. They look flawless. The Honda makers and quality control are just perfectionists, so proud of their craft. I work in a hospital laboratory and I can appreciate this greatly, because for me making a mistake is never an option, it could result in someone dying. Taking this pride in the quality of the things you create has a powerful effect on the soul, and I’d recommend anyone to try it.

Jeremiah and Zach are the bread and butter of this channel. Entertaining as hell and they actually know what they’re talking about.

Trowing this out there, I'm pretty sure you should have put the oil pan on last. You never know if you might drop something in there while working on it, and the front cover is designed to be installed before the oil pan. The way that the oil pan seals would work better against the bottom of the front cover, by doing the front cover first.

You guys really make quality content. Within the last 2 years, I've really consumed quite a bit of cartube and Donut is easily one of my favorite outlets. I would love to maybe see a video formatted this way, but about why Dodge's Hemi Engine is so infamous.

Looking forward to testing it on the $500 Civic😅. Could be interesting to see how the car does since it has new suspension and all?

I had a 216K mile K20A2 in my 02 RSX when I sold it. I bought it new and used it for a daily driver. Always running pure synth oil, it kept running better and better. It would even run strong on regular gas with no detonation.... good spark knock sensor I guess... I should have kept that car just for the engine but didn't know these could even come close to 1K hp.

The boys and girls at Donut have really outdone themselves with this one. The closest thing we could get to the DC5 Type-R was the 05/06 Type-S. The K20Z1 was so close in performance to the K20A that with a few mods it’s indistinguishable around the race track.

Honestly I feel the K20 should go into the $500 Civic. Make a man entirely new 3 or 4 part series about how a cheap car could be built into some crazy type of beast. Let’s see the full potential of that $500 Civic..

When doing torque turn, just use the bolt head. 360/6 is 60 degrees. If you just mark the socket at one of the 6 points, then mark that girdle at at the next point on the bolt. Just turn the bolt until the lines meet up.

I had a 2005 RSX Type-S. It wasn’t exactly the engine from this video, but that car was a blast to drive. It LOVED being near redline and never had any issues with it. I miss that car so much.

Now the question I have is can you hook a automatic transmission to it! I have a v6 09 escape I thought I could get one of these engine and do same set up and put it in my escape.

What most people don't know about compression ratio is that it works on piston while going down also (intake) The piston being closer to the top of the cylinder creates a greater vacuum force while on the intake stroke. This is why big cams work better with high compression ratio - they need the momentum of fast moving air to wake up the cams.

It would be extremely cool and amazing if you guys could sometime build a 1000 HP engine over the course of a series or something 🙏. It's always been rather shush shush in terms of details beyond broad strokes (at least on UKposts in my experience).

I enjoy the mix of tips, tricks, and struggles. Because we all know when it's said and done 80% was struggle.

I love these rebuild videos, I learn so much and it's really well edited and produced with great personalities, flow, and educational but fun content. Watched a few videos way in the past but got more consistent when HiLow first came out and I've learned so much about building, fixing, and modding. Haven't done much myself yet for my car since I don't have that many tools or time to make it easy, but I've been working on my bikes with more confidence.

Honda makes engines that run well but also that just look really tight and tasteful, with well designed placement and interconnectivity of all components.

Literally have been working on my Teg a lot lately and honestly thank you guys for making this video. Really helps me on my research!

I loved my D16zC motor....It didn't like just more than 8 lbs of boost though w rebuilt stock internals..upgraded the bearings rods and pistons a bit after the first slung the 4th rod bearing and second blow because of the 4th piston again because it ran hotter than the rest......I always wanted a B18C3 though as an upgrade but the motor I had was so cheap and easy to rebuild......2.5 inch exhaust....B&m short shifter....Fluidyne radiator, walboro 255 lph fuel pump....I forget the company but my ignition was all upgraded.....Fuel rail, injectors were also done, stock trans....But stage 1 clutch...did some other upgrades but I loved my civic.....Greddy turbo kit...Blow off valve was by....I forget but they told me it was for Subaru even though it was a universal kit....oh turbo XS...My next car was a 2004 sti w more money in the driveline than my house cost....Made over 40o hp at the wheels and 370 lbs of torque....26 lbs of boost all day long...custom built and tuned....Loved that thing...can't believe I sold that and my custom Honda CBR F4i....but was making 100k a year and had a lexus is350 awd and an suv and bought a house at 29 years old.....had 3 kids...went to great wold lodge and had tvs and xboxes in every room....all was great until I caught a coworker co manager of mine embezzled money and when I found out he had upper management lay me off because they were in on it...since then my life has been homeless basically...I pray karma takes them out to this day a few years later..

I had one of those K20s, with turbo in my CRX. God I miss that car.

Something I haven't heard you mention, the reason that engine is so used over other k series engines that are similar is the ECU for it was the original base for k tuner and those are cheap compared to the other variants with similar internals. Similar goes for the k24s from that year range being as used that only require two connectors swapped compared to back grading the ECU and harness like later engines in that series require for kpro. Other you did a good job explaining the basics for new car enthusiast.

I would install the crank and girdle plate on a flat table vs the engine stand. Love me some k20 power!

the trick to the ring compressor is you want to seat it inside the block a little. If you get the cheapo ratcheting ones this works great cuz you can push them in axially and they sorta "spiral" out, giving you a nice edge to stick into the bore. the edge being in there helps transition the rings. DO NOT hammer on them or force them if they're snagging, you can bend or snap the rings.

I love an engine with inline cylinder configuration, I've just always had great luck with them from the 22RE from Toyota to Ford's old 300 I6 I've never owned one that gave me issues.

I'm loving these engine builds. I like when you go through what is different from the run of the mill cars that aren't build for power. Thoughts on doing a rotary? Maybe a 13B REW?

My friend had a 94 civic hatch with the K20 in the early 2000s and damn it was fun. I think he had the rev limit at 9500 rpm. It sounded great.

My first car i ever bought was a 92 Integra 3 door with the B18 without VTEC. It wasn't the fastest thing but i had it set up like a go cart and it was probably the most fun I've had in a car.

2:27 the term is "companion cylinders", where the two of the four pistons will travel exactly the same together and the other set of two will travel exactly the same together.

I have a K24 in my honda element, All it needed was a cold air intake, Exhaust mod, And a tune to get to 350 HP from a stock 160

I used to have a EJ6 fully built D16 SOHC turbo that I built with friends and man that thing was fun to drive, the dream was always to upgrade to a K swap motor, but this was like a decade and a half ago so it was kind of expensive then. To see the prices now, it makes me want to build another one again. I think I would easily go all-motor though in a lighter chassis, the all motor NA just slaps and feels so much more raw and visceral IMO.

Man I wish we could see one with the vq hr engine...engine tear down and rebuild is something I would be invested in

Dual VTEC....when low RPM you can set it for 280 degre cam. In high rpm you give itu 330 degree cam profile. So it become an afterburner piston engine since it install turbocharger. Just make sure your valve and piston are not melting.
