I think Douglas made a good point here and we're seeing the consequences every day. When you remove religion, people will inevitably invent something to replace it, and that _something,_ wokeness in this case, has turned out to be a far worse and more destructive religion than the old religions ever were.

It seems like you didn't pay attention, or misunderstood what was said. It's not that religions that exist are why they happened, it's that religious behavior, and the creation of religious figureheads over ideologies and states is what caused those things to happen. The problem was that those dictators put themselves in place of the absent religions from their ideologies. It's as Sam Harris said, there's no doctrine in atheism that gets you the gulag, but to add onto that, there is the doctrine of dictators that gets you the gulag.

No, I got his point and you missed mine. Harris is simply justifying Stalin and Mao’s atrocities because he knows all too well that they were not the result of the dogma. The dogma was the result of their worldviews which were informed by the absence of religion. Actually, not merely the absence but hostility towards it. Get your facts right.
