I'm not a believer in any religion, as for god, I'll just say i don't know. My brother and sister in law recently lost their 7 year old son. They very much are Christian believers and it is clear to me that their belief has helped them through this. To be clear, he suffered from a severe accident of birth and wasn't expected to live at all, much less smile and laugh. I don't know what my point is other than seeing this couple go through this for the past 7 years has been so sad and impressive. I can't really make sense of how strong they are.

My one critique of Peterson is that the gets so excited and emotional about what he wants to share that he sometimes talks over his opponents.

Peter Kreeft would be a better moderator in this “debate”. He would have brought some sense into this discussion. The man is Wise (with a capital W), very knowledgable and knows more about life both in practical and spiritual sense. As for JP, I always enjoy listening to him.

Those emotion body gestures and speaking hands is phenomenal , particularly from JP, try mute the dialogue, watch the body language. That speaks volume. Tis quite the wee dance.

Rationality is not enough because people are not able to always be absolutely rational, we are forced not to be rational in some situations. For example people who get cancer need hope, even when they know they are going to die. They, along with their family members are hoping and they think there is a possibility they will somehow get better until the very end. I absolutely think being rational is not good in some situations and that's why we developed tendency not to be rational in every situation. From pure evolutionary perspective we developed this tendency because it helps us survive.

No one of the quandaries of love is that it can exist in a completely irrational state. Rationality is one of the drivers of human behavior. Feel the Fear, and do it anyway. The whole point was nailed by JP right at the beginning. How do we convince billions of people to live good, charitable and neighbourly lives without a proper reason except it is good for everyone. We need God. Our Father laid down within every human the ability to love, help, care for and sacrifice because we know He sees us and our reward is in communion with Him. Without that ultimate reward, only a very few people act on their better qualities rather than their urge to steal, take advantage of or damage.

Love listening to conversation ls like this. They are conversations than need to be had in order for atheists and religious believer alike need to hear both sides of the story and to help formulate their own ideas instead of blind following one thing or the other.

Yes, those heavenly beings of us people KINDS. All that to say is that we need to use the physical tangible things to properly PICTURE in our mind how to describe intangible areas of reality. It WHY 'Stories' help shed light. People relate better thru stories ... and people with the ears to hear ... will HEAR higher meanings through the power of the Holy Spirit. GOD speaks all the time. His Voice, His spirit is organic and personal ... not robotic and contrived. Robotic and contrived ... aka 'carved out' and repeatedly practiced is that of a religious nature. God's real and He is BOTH Consistently TRUE and trustworthy ... AND ... He is fresh, ever-flowing and very relational ... very personal. Notice the [ AND ] part in the middle ... that [ + ] SIGN in the middle of those TWO extremes. Those Two ways are the ONE solid WAY of God ... and 'should' ... also be of mankind. BE Blessed

As a 51 year old woman I know there is a god in all of us. G-d is love, peace , joy, sorrow, hope, understanding. G-d is and for ever will be. Religions are brands that are designed to control. It can be corrupt. Know that self and G-d will appear. Do good ! G-d is love. Taste and see that the lord is good.

The gist that has not been worded here: the problem is human nature, when there is no religion we raise other ideas to that status, we do great and terrible things for ideas. Solution is individual believing in something akin to God but with no strong form of organization. So impossible, just embrace your fallen nature. Some ideas killed hundreds if not millions times more than religion and we should be focusing on spreading that gospel and not criticisim of people beliefs in higher good.
