Building a WINDOW with 3 Huge TVs

In this video I make a huge, full-size tv wall and use it as a window to anywhere in the world. This TV window is made of three 75" 4k tvs that work together to display one 12' image. The TV's are framed into the wall to make them look as much like a real window as possible. Great idea to lighten up a dark basement or office with an amazing view. In the future I'd like to be able to watch movies, play games and have a live video feed of my backyard that I can use as a window 24/7.
Contest details:
This contest is not associated or endorsed by UKposts in anyway.
Winner must find all six 4-digit codes throughout the video and message them to me on instagram @drewbuildsstuff in the format:
1. xxxx
2. xxxx
3. xxxx
4. xxxx
5. xxxx
6. 0385 (given)
The first three people to send me the correct codes will receive a 11x17" black walnut and black epoxy charcuterie board that was handmade by me. I will pay for shipping, however you may be responsible for any outstanding duty, customs or fees upon delivery.
I likely will not respond to every Instagram message, only the winners.

I have watched almost every video , from the doghouse to the spa to the tiny home on wheels to the backyard spa. As a retired mechanical engineer who turns 70 in March I must say: I like your creativity and willingness to do new things. Congratulations for having a real interesting channel. I’d rather watch this content than anything on television.

Curtains are a good idea. Overuse of this 'window' could drive a person insane. The bare black screen might be even worse. But how about nighttime scenes. Moon and stars like at the planetarium, with a fire burning low in the forground. The red embers make you sleepy. Time to close the curtains.

If you want stained wood to look more even and less blotchy, first apply a coat of clear sanding sealer. This will make the wood absorb the stain more evenly, so different grain and knots don't look so dark. Also, it would've cool if you used the same wooden figured moulding as around your other window, to reinforce the "window" idea.

Still like your projector idea over a bunch of hot FP displays. I wonder if you could use conventional laser ceiling mounted projectors and get the effect for a lot less energy, money, and reduce the build complexity to just the window frame and a faux wood ceiling beam just big enough to hide diminutive projectors. I know you can get 4k ones for under $1k but they might have issues I don't recognize. Or a single $2+k unit that would ''home theater" the whole wall! If/when you upgrade the computer, remember that you'll want bezel compensation... That let's you remove the sections of video where the wood exists. This would help your 'window' look continuous behind those breaks. Right now, one column of pixels picks up where the last display left off, which kills the illusion. Maybe not so visible on nature content, but you'd notice it with almost any other type of video.

I love how proud of yourself you were at 15:10. I'd be proud too! I never noticed ANY numbers until you pointed the one out at the end, then I thought I'd have to go back and re watch the video to find them all, but I don't have instagram so.... Great video and great idea.

Just brilliant. And creatively inspiring. Every picture was beautiful. It might be fun to have a scene of moving through space as if from the main deck of the Enterprise or something similar. Again, so well done. Saved to my "home" file for future reference.

Have you considered adding a face tracking camera to add parallax? I think it could give a really really cool effect :)

The first 3 winners of the giveaway have been notified! Thanks everyone for playing! Winners are from Finland, California and Ontario! Also beware there's tons of scammers out there using a similar name and my profile photo saying you've won a prize or similar. I only have two social accounts, this one and my @drewbuildsstuff Instagram. Just an FYI. I wish UKposts would solve the problem already.

Use an Nvidia graphics card to be able to output to 3 monitors, but have them treated as one. There's even bezel correction (for the gap made by the frame). You would need any cheap Nvidia card with 3 display outputs (they typically have DisplayPort, HDMI, and DVI ports, all of which can run perfectly with a cheap little HDMI converter to be compatible with your setup
@amateurwizard
@amateurwizard Рік тому
You should use 'Nvidia Surround', you can make all 3 displays come up as 1 single display. It would take a lot of the hassle out of it as it's normally used by people doing multi-monitor gaming. This project is awesome by the way. Edit: This will also allow to you to adjust for the border size between each display making it ever so slightly more convincing as a spaceship window :D. Could also allow remote access on the windows box for the TVs so you don't have to go back there to change things.

I was wondering if you could replace most windows in a house like this. I’ve searched but couldn’t find anyone who did. I wonder if the energy saved from heat loss/gain would, over time, pay for the install and operating cost. It would be interesting if you could connect the tv wall to an exterior camera that would replace the scene of a real window. Hey I was typing this as I was watching and the end that’s exactly what you are about to do. Looking forward to the results. If it works out start a business offering a plug and play. I have a room that needs lighting up with a new window and don’t want to cut hole in the wall.

Great video. You might want to try one of the many Linux operating systems which have much better support for multi display layouts than Windows. Once set up anything you put at full screen will span across your 3 displays.

You gotta get a 3D video in there.... Maybe a roller-coaster or something. I don't know if the monitors would handle in this format a "proper/no-breaking" 3D experience with glasses, but even if they don't... with lights off and a full wall... you'd get most of the 3D experience even without glasses. I would actually stare into a ride for hours on that wall/screen :)) I also built my office in my basement, I LOVE this idea!!!

Just thought I’d mention- leaving your Capos on your guitars stretches the spring making them unable to work properly sooner. They’ll last a lot longer setting them aside near by. I had to be told about that myself. Love your setup! I’d love to do that in my studio. Someday maybe Thx for sharing
