I agree the "nous" form is used less, but not so little as to justify to simply leave it out the way you did.

To each their own, I'm all about simplifying French and really focusing on what you will actually use in real life. I almost never hear "nous" as a subject in conversation so why learn something you're not going to use? Everyone has different goals though :)

Beginners and those new to French will learn the present tense endings for regular -ER verbs and will see:- je -E, tu -ES, il/elle -E, nous -ONS, vous -EZ, ils/elles -ENT However, manger (to eat) is an interesting verb as the 1st person plural (nous) does NOT simply remove the -er from the infinitive and replace it with -ONS. Instead, it retains the E and is written "nous mangeons". This can be significant, for example, when making a suggestion to eat something, "Mangeons un sandwich." There are, of course, a number of alternative (and arguably better) ways to convey this same idea without using the imperative but it is important to understand the grammar behind making a suggestion, particularly how it relates to the verb "manger".

The interesting thing is "nous" as a subject is not really used in conversational French :)

@@Street_French Do you think most French people would be aware of this? If they were to see "nous mangons" written, is it something that would jump off the page at them as something wrong ot would it fall into the same catagory as something like "to/too" in English? Maybe a better analogy would be the spelling of "lamb" in English. Most people would recognise the silent "b" if it were missing. I realise these are gross generalisations but when you are not in France and don't have much contact with native French speakers, it is hard to judge the extent to which something like this is a problem (linguistically speaking).

The problem is that the verbs that are used 90% of the time aren’t the ones that are the easiest to conjugate. Most commonly used French verbs are irregular.
@Street_French
@Street_French Рік тому
I'm sorry that's just not true, you don't the use the 10% of irregular verbs 90% of the time, that doesn't even make sense: manger, travailler / bosser, regarder, etc :) though the irregular verbs are important too, there's a system for conjugating those easily as well.

This is good. The traditional way of getting learners to memorize big conjugation tables is all wrong. Native speakers don't learn as babies to speak by memorizing tables. They learn from noticing the patterns in the sounds.
