I think I will try this! Things have come a long way since 1976 when I graduated with my BSEE degree. There were only two choices back then: 1.) Create your own PCB negative, expose a photosensitive board, then etch it,or; 2.) Use perfboard, put ICs in wire-wrap sockets, then wire wrap them together. The technology existed back then, but it wasn’t feasible for the electronic hobbyist. As for _Spice_ and tools like that, I think its crude counterpart was a FORTRAN program called _”ElCap”._ Thank you so much!

I am new to electronics design and although I am good in programming, I really was not looking forward to PCB design as the EDA software I tried did not fall easy on the fingers. I then discovered EasyEDA as part of my extensive google search and found it much more intuitive than anything else. The web interface works so well it feels like an installed program on the computer. EasyEDA made a number of improvements by resolving bugs and it works smooth. I do find though that the component libraries are still very limited and I do have to create a lot by hand, but considering it is free to use it is an awesome piece of work. I hope to progress enough in skill to be able to order PC boards via the system soon as this is what EasyEDA is all about, and if that works like the software it will make life easy.

I'm signed up for an EasyEDA account already; I'd seen them featured in one of Dave Jones' EEVBLOG mailbag segments and checked them out. I'm not at the point of designing a PCB yet, but I'm ready for when I am! Good review, thanks!

KiCad and DipTrace (Light) are two other freewares that I would definitetly recommend for beginners. But for the ones who plan to become electronics engineers, then I think that Circuit Maker is a better choice because it is almost as powerful as Altium Designer itself. To put into perspective, OSHPark charges $5USD per square inch (25.4mm x 25.4mm) for a two layer board with three copies. EasyEDA seems to charge $4.35USD per square inch for a two layer board, but you get 10 copies.

I've tried EasyEDA, KiCAD, and Eagle. EasyEDA is by far the easiest to use with a massive library of parts. However, one thing to note is that most of EasyEDA is purpose built to drive business to JLPCB using LCSC parts. If you live in the US the turn around time is about a month. This is something that is rarely mentioned.

Question, I notice that when i connect a load with my Battery(any battery Li-on, Lid-acid) battery drop the voltage(mean if i connect a volt meter acrose the battery). I notice that when i connect a Led in series with a resistor. the voltage drop in this case is from 4.1volt to 3.7volt. it also happen when i connect a transistor with a led. Do i design the circuit incorrectly ?

I wish I had developed my nurdy side in High School because I would luv to be able to use programs like this... Needless to say, it's true, you can't teach and OLE DOG new TRICKS... As I am 54 years old as of Jan 2016, and I fear I've missed my window to experiment with electronics... Sure I can do house electric and wire up 4 way switches, not as easy as you would think. I can solder plumbing pipes but to solder circuits is a whole new ball game; one of which, I can not play... Cheers Mate, thanks for sharing....
@RossPotts
@RossPotts 7 років тому
Paul Bialozor just copy designs, get a decent multimeter, and start tracing leads on boards. research datasheets on chips you can ID. It'll come to you. keep yourself busy. I'm almost 50, so not that far behind you...
@cybercapri
@cybercapri 7 років тому
Hi Ross Potts, thanks for the words of encouragement, but believe me I've tried. I tried to desolder old circuit boards just for fun and practice and I removed a ton of items and probably killed about 90% of them in the process... These guys make it look so easy and I am here to say it's anything BUT.... LOL... I can take a few stacks of lumber and build an elaborate house from scratch with no plans and I can solder water pipes with the best of them so one would think soldering electronics would be right up my ally... LOL... Needless to say I have a better chance of swimming UP Niagara Falls that I do to learn electronics and this sort of soldering... I want to be able to because I have a ton of ideas I'd luv to toy with but I just can't seem to get it... Oh well, perhaps in another life... LOL... Cheers....

Do you know about the PCB Suite "Target 3001!"? The free Discover-Version allows for 1.2m x 1.2m boards with up to 2 Layers, 250 pin/pad max. and 50 simulated signals. And it's storing the data on your PC. In my opinion there's no better tool than Target (out of the ones I tried*) * The list of tried programs includes, but is not limited to Altium Circuit Maker, Cadsoft Eagle, IBF Target 3001, KiCAD.
