"You think you are gods but everyone dies" gets me every single time

For those who don’t know: the part which sounds like “screaming” is actually called “ağıt”, which is like a folk melody sang for the dead usually when grieving. An ancient Turk tradition. You can say it’s similar to requiems. ❤️

I still don't understand how people in the past thought her singing was bad cause bish what? Goosebumps everytime!

When that song won Eurovision, I was 10. I remember, that i didn't understand that song and what is it about. But now, 7 years later, when i'm older, I understand a message of that song. Thank you Jamala and Ukraine for giving us that very emotional and beautiful song. A deserved victory.

This needs to be performed during this year's ESC. Not as a contestant, but during the performance.

I saw in some comments that they say "her song is mostly made out of of screams" I just have to say this, the way she "screams" is something called "ağıt" in many Turkish folklore in general, and it's an expression of grief and sadness in a very powerful way. There are many great songs made out of mostly 'ağıt'. So when you listen this song, think that this is her and her people's expression of grief for the people they lost and their homes because of selfishness and fascism of some big states. And her voice and her song is beautiful that's how she won, so suck it.

This is so scary, it accurately describes the situation right now, especially the part where she sings about people being killed and the aggressor saying they are not guilty - just like Russia is doing right now.

For people whose saying she's just screaming in this song, no, she isn't just screaming. It's a Turkic melody style. It's the way shows the pain and suffer, past sadness. You can find the lament almost every traditional Turkic song, this is the culture.
