Far: Lone Sails features a rather awkward-to-pilot vehicle. What if this is intentional?

The 'carboat' is a okomotive, the name of the studio. The story of far lone sails revolves around the idea of decay. You are the son/daughter of Jan Herickson, nordic inventor and entrepreneur in tough place, specifically the climate apocalypse. To combat the ever growing concerns of fuel, transportation, safety, and shelter, he begins the quest for okomotive perfection. Your okomotive is a advanced version of oko v.1, running off the all-fuel mixture invented to work as pure energy. Jan moved on into leg based traversion with oko v.2, an oko with legs for scrunging through the terrain. The oko v.1 and v.2 where the basis for many of the trips to the ever receding shoreline. Eventually, Jan created the proto-walker, a titanic on legs. It was meant to be as mass produced as previous models, but if it was worker strikes or disaster, his company fell apart as everyone began a final mass migration to the sea in hopes of finding aridible land or civilization. The entirety of the wreck of a project meant to be a saving grace under Herickson and brothers would die, and Jan also as he and his brothers were reaching the end of their lives. You use their legacy to get to whoever is left, that is your goal.

Honestly I thought the story was simple to understand don't understand how some people can't understand it

All of this is 100% correct but I will note it's confirmed you're his _daughter_ specifically - the artbook has more on our protag including her name (Lone Henriksson) and concept art of her actual face (one of which shows up in the house at the start of the game although it's very small in-game)

actually, if you just let the wind move you when you can, you will never have fuel issues. and you can enjoy the scenery.
@skyhijinx
@skyhijinx 2 роки тому
I actually took a lot of time to just enjoy the view. Between most "puzzle" sections is a section where you have the wind at your back. I would use those times to just stand above the Okomotive and just take it all in. Breathtaking game.
@REIDiculous64
@REIDiculous64 2 роки тому
Ya there are a few times during the game where you can stop and look. Ironically those are the times when you are using a clean source of energy to move and usually there is no man-made things in the background. Could be symbolic that dirty forms of energy might move us forward but not in a good way.
@subprogram32
@subprogram32 Рік тому
For me, the 'never taking a moment to look at the background' was totally untrue for me - because the sails don't just make you faster, they move the Okomotive all by itself, leaving fuel as the more inefficient, higher-effort option for whenever there was no wind to catch. I also did this in the sequel, and in both cases, the times where there was nothing but wind and a obstacle-less path ahead were always the most peaceful and contemplative times for me.

The fact that you have to constantly adjust the sails in changing tides makes it much athmospheric.

This is all just my own theory, but a cool adjacent theory to the game's unchecked progress warning you've mentioned. In our own past there were plans at the turn of the 20th century about building a massive dam in the Mediterranean which would slowly drain the sea to create more dry land for settlement where there used to be water. However not only was this idea nearly impossible, when people stopped to ask the 'why' and the 'what would actually happen" they realized it would have been a catastrophic disaster which would create not vast swaths of fertile land, but a great desert that would destroy the ecosystem of southern Europe. In the game's progression you can see that we are driving through dried up a great dried up seabed, my personal theory is that in the world of far: lone sails Europe went ahead with this plan to build the dams. When the water began to recede further and further away from the coast, rapidly transforming the land into something more akin to a desert, the people pushed forward chasing every new coast as more and more water dried up. I think the theme of unchecked progress vs this theory about the game's story line up surprisingly well. Where the inhabitants never stopped to question the results of their actions, because that was just the direction of history; progress wasn't a means to an end, it was an end in of itself.

I love how different experiences can reveal different dimensions of an art piece! My own playthrough was much more relaxed, as I used the sail without running the engine whenever I could to just sit back and enjoy the atmosphere. I never ran the okomotive at full speed until the very end. I wouldn’t ever have noticed the parallels if not for this video and your own playstyle that was so different from mine. In the most complimentary fashion, your playing the game “wrong” showed me a whole new perspective on it!

This game looks very neat. I get why the Limbo comparison exists but yeah I can see why it’s different

Last weekend it ended buying and beating both Limbo and Far Lone Sails. Great games and I really enjoyed my first play with them but I don't see myself going back as I feel it's was a one off gaming experience because you know what to expect next time. I highly recommend both games and enjoy your first walkthrough if you buy them.

Great video! Wasn't for me. Going into it I expected something like Limbo or Inside or Little Nightmares I/II or Valiant Hearts. But it wasn't. Literally only played for 10 minutes but it just didn't interest me at all.
