Hi, Nice Video, thank you. Today we know a bit more about Tunic, just a some knowledge we have to day. - Tunic has a Spoken Language. The Written Language you can learn is also spoken. All ferry speak to you, the even break the 4th Wall and make jokes about the game devs. The Main Menu sound when you lad or start a new message tells you something. I think that is incredible, how deep it is. - Than we have hidden Messages in the Sounds, When you put some sounds into a spectrograph, you can see hidden messages. - The world building is also even deeper as we saw at the first look, one of the main characters was the boss from the library that tried to break the cycle. I think Tunic is a unique experience and I love to see what the people will find out during the coming years.

Thank you for articulating this. I couldn't put into words for myself what was bothering me about this game. Tedious and obfuscated rather than an actual increase in challenge, or actually fun. It is like therapy to realise that this is why I couldn't get on with it. Playing this game has been like a peek into the mind of a madman.

I understand the allure, really. Humans are problem solvers by nature, but everyone has a different patience on how much time and brainpower they are willing to invest in solving a puzzle. Saying that, this game is not for me. I just got bored halfway through, because once you understand the mechanics, is just remixes of the same puzzles again and again.

I'm going to be honest I don't care about non binary stuff I just want to know about the gameplay

This is a terrible fucking take. The witness is a masterclass in good game design and teaching principles lol

I had a moment playing Braid many years back where I thought “these puzzles are really easy but I don’t have the energy / attention to input the solution”. It was no longer a puzzle game, it was a tedious data entry task. It sounds like the witness doesn’t respect your time either.

Well thank you sir. It's not every day I learn a new word. Diegesis is a narrative storytelling style wherein the narrator describes an interior world including actions of its inhabitants

So correct me if I'm wrong, but the main Problem with the game(s description) is semantics? Because I get the point. I just think most people don't think of it that strict and might get thrown of by the title.

If your point was that the obra dinn and the golden idol was different, sure, I could get behind that. But if your point is that “you’re not a detective in case of the golden idol, so it’s not a detective game” then like… what? That’s like saying Nintendogs isn’t a pet game because you aren’t playing as a pet.

The ARG has been solved. Spoilers below... The runes are not the only language of TUNIC. _There is a second language embedded in the sounds and music of the game._ It's *breathtaking.* To me, WAY more awesome than a secret boss. You've gotta look into this, man.
@NeilTruickМісяць тому
You can hate it for its lack of a satisfying ending. That being said, with all of the energy and patience required to get through to the game's ending, would _any_ ending be satisfactory? This game is the definitive manifestation of "It's not about the destination; it's about the journey."

Lemme say this slowly and clearly. This game isn’t for you. Stop shitting on something that you don’t connect with. I personally find this game extremely compelling, and brilliant. Many of the puzzles in this game are straight up genius. Again, this game was not for you. That’s ok. One more time. This game was NOT made for you.

All the people talking about The Witness when talking about Tunic have not played FEZ If you played FEZ and 100%ed it, the Witness is a fucking joke FEZ as much as Tunic has an in-world language (and numbers-/counting-system) that you need to translate (as much as you can translate the script in Tunic) and you need to heavily think outside the box for it. I wrote so many fucking pages of paper full of codes and stuff for FEZ It was fucking rad. And what I loved about Tunic is that it's a Zelda-Darksouls with a good dose of that.

i just finished my first playthrough and what an amazing game. I didn't do everything, but I did everything i wanted to do. I ended up choosing the atomic/whale mask because in my time exploring the world i, or rather sable, became very connected with the past and I wanted to represent my ancestors wherever I went. I like how the mask you choose or identify most with can sort of add a bit of narrative to your journey.

"I like Zelda but Ocarina of Time wasn't for me" 🤔How do you not like the best one?😆
@Dahras1Місяць тому
I know this is a very old video, but I do think that one part that often gets overlooked in the difficulty debate is how not having difficulty options can be a *feature* for players who want a difficult experience but have trouble with the willpower associated with sticking to it. For instance, I *know* that I enjoy CRPGs more when I don't save-scum, but when I make a catastrophic dialogue decision or roll, I find it incredibly difficult if not impossible to keep myself from save-scumming and ruining the experience for myself. The same issue is the reason I find Nuzlockes in Pokemon almost impossible to complete. I know that Pokemon is too easy, and I can feel for myself that the tension of a Nuzlocke improves my experience. But when my favorite Pokemon gets knocked out to a random crit, I can almost never summon the willpower to actually box it like I'm supposed to. That being said, I think there are ways to incorporate accessibility options while providing accessibility options that the strawman "Gamers" ignore. I think Etrian Odyssey Nexus' "Heroic" difficulty option is a great example. It is the highest difficulty but also the intended difficulty. The difficulty "below" it (Expert) is literally identical. The only difference between the two is that Heroic a) marks your save as Heroic and b) you can switch off of Heroic at any time but you can never switch *to* Heroic after starting your save file. That might seem stupid, but even that amount of friction is enough to make a system that discourages impulsive difficulty changes. That's why I personally also like when difficulty-related accessibility options can only be changed in the main menu, especially in games with permissive saving. I understand that it is a level of friction, but it is also a level of friction which prevents impulsively lowering the game speed when it isn't really about accessibility but impatience.

I, actually, really loved this game. A few puzzles were aggravating, but the frustration is a part of games like this, just like it's a part of Sekiro. Thing's this: This game is like a fantastic, interactive, huge sudoku puzzle booklet. But if you don't like sudokus, well... Don't force yourself to solve the whole booklet and then complain to people who actually do like sudokus about how boring it all was. The game never tricks you, it's not like you didn't KNOW it was about line puzzles from the very start. At the same time, we love to have something to hate sometimes, so hey.
@mateusrodovalhoМісяць тому
I was just there to see it
@zelun_Місяць тому
I liked the puzzles. The end game gives you a randomized challenge witch is really fun also and yu can't stop the game and do it on mspaint unless youre using other computer. But the puzzles I find to be fun And I don't agree with your points at all. This is just a kind of puzzle you don't like. Rule discovering games can be fun and after you understand the rule it's just like playing a sudoku game and trying to fit every piece together. Also, how do you make a puzzle about hearing to be able to be beatable without hearing? Or a puzzle about colour without colour? At the moment you add symbols or text the puzzle stops being about the thing they very are.

It's amazing but so short, even the challenge levels have like one harder and its just one gimmick that you have to think about. If they had randomization and more biomes with unique challenges this game could have so much more depth.

Why making money sounds bad? Making games is a job, would you not want to get paid?
@VideoGamesAreBadМісяць тому
It's a good question - there's obviously nothing wrong with making money in games. It's a profession as well as an art form. But the industry is going through severe tormoil at basically all levels atm. Developers are being laid off in droves and studios are struggling to fund their projects. So me pointing at Balatro and going "See? Why can't you do this? Look at this commercially successful thing" feels a bit, as I put in the video, tone deaf.
@afriendlyfoxМісяць тому
@@VideoGamesAreBadYeah, I understand what you mean. However, it's also a little bit optimistic, since it means that even in times of crisis you can still make a successful game
@internetcouchМісяць тому
Balatro rules! Happy to see content talking about it. I'm curious, were you already familiar with poker before playing? I've had multiple friends who never played poker who ask me if Balatro would be approachable to them, and I genuinely couldn't answer; I've known poker as long as I can remember. I wonder if this perceived simplicity is just because the starting point is so well-understood by a massive portion of the potential audience before even getting started. It's like games leveraging chess as a starting point: you've got a foundation of rules that are already understood, so the twists feel less complicated.
@VideoGamesAreBadМісяць тому
I actually hadn't played poker before Balatro! Having the hands in front of you is nice, and an hour later I wasn't even thinking about the rules. Plus, playing cards definitely have that universal familiarity.

@FlatThumbМісяць тому
I think you have some fair points, but I think the main issue VGAB has is that it is a gambling game - which is exactly what it says to be. Vampire Survivors is a little more devious because it is advertised as a fantasy roguelike with hooks similar to gambling slot machine/visuals/ sounds etc. There is a place for this type of design I just hope that I don't see slot machines in a Halo game.🤣
@PhiLudoМісяць тому
now do you like the game or not?
@VideoGamesAreBadМісяць тому
Isn't that the question!😌 (In all seriousness, I liked Balatro a lot, but probably not as much as other people. On the one hand I feel done after 20 hours or so, but on the other hand I feel done after 20 hours or so. 20 hours is a lot of time!)
@eyebrowowl9292Місяць тому
Thanks for the snappy video that dares to fly in the face of all the Balatro adoration. You did a great job of verbalising that uneasy feeling of enjoying a good game even when you know it's bad for you - when you can see all the levers the designers are pulling, yet you can't tear yourself away from it. I'm still in two minds about picking this one up as I know it might send me into a slot machine stupor... but then again, the numbers go brrrrrr.

Balatro and Vampire Survivor's are way, way, WAY less of a problem than literally any game with microtransactions. These games use some of the same psychological tricks that casinos/slot machines use, but they only use them....for fun. You're only compelled to keep playing because the loop is fun and satisfying. You're not trying to make up for real-world money you lost, or pushing against artificially annoying barriers, or being time-gated in a way that can all go away....if you just shell out some cash. I don't think these games deserve more than a cursory - "Hey, watch it - this game is so fun that it's hard to put down." - I say all of this as someone with ADHD who is susceptible to hyperfocusing. Balatro is fantastic, and I don't agree whatsoever that it has nothing that other games can learn from. Other games should take Balatro's polish and focus, small scope, the way that it unfolds its complexity. I think there is a lot more to talk about with this game than you are giving it credit for.
@SilverZephyr09Місяць тому
You know what, nah. Do *everything* Balatro is doing because it's wildly successful and fun to play.
