It’s honestly a massive feat of efficiency that Square delivered Rebirth in under 4 years… and not just the 2nd chapter - by all accounts a truly MASSIVE entry with Rebirth.

Yeah I would love to do them more, but always have my hands full running the gaming section at the site. Always make sure to make time for the big ones!

Honestly VII Remake + Rebirth is where you want to start (unless you really want to do some retro gaming) The reason why I say VII Remake+Rebirth is that while a few FF games have had spinoff games that add to that chapter only VII has a legacy of 27 years worth of additional content and Remake+Rebirth embrace the lore all while trimming the excess and improving things from original VII. And this is coming from someone that played VII back on PS1 and played all subsequent games and watched all subsequent media that is a huge fan of the original VII. The Remake trilogy is really Square Enix firing on all cylinders in every department and showcases all of what people love and love to hate about Final Fantasy.

You can't really explain the Final Fantasy universe because the FF games and the worlds they are taking place are pretty different from another and follow different storylines. However what binds them together is the fantasy element. Also all FF games put a strong emphasis on lore and storytelling. This is what made them big and what defines their character. I'd say FFVII is a pretty good place to start your FF journey. The lore is pretty complex but very good and newcomer friendly. To have the full experience of the remake compilation you played the original game, played crisis core and watched the film "Advent Children" in the most optimal case. There are also several books and ultimanias to read around this lore, since it is, like I said, a pretty huge and interconnected story that makes you ask several questions and connect the dots to get the bigger picture. That said, all of this is not required to do. If you wanna dive into the FFVII universe, it's enough to play the Remake, since it is designed to also introduce new players to this story. The devs even stated, that one can start with FFVII Rebirth directly. However, I would strongly recommend you play the Remake first otherwise you'll most likely end up confused, without an understanding what the heck is going on and what the conversations and the cutscenes may be referring to. You may have some fun with the other features the game has to offer but not enjoy the story to the fullest and in my opinion it would be a shame, because it is really good. An all time classic so to say.

@@tonymaccaroni1683 FF VII is arguably much more of a Science Fiction story than a Fantasy one with much more in common with with Star Wars and Blade Runner than with any other Final Fantasy game even magic is explained as being more techno-magic as far as rpg's go its more Shadowrun (minus the elves and other races) than D&D. That is also probably why it has stood the test of time more so than any other Final Fantasy game and why it is also my personal favourite.

Final Fantasy is an anthology series. Each numbered entry is its own thing with its own world and story. Final Fantasy 7 has nothing to do with Final Fantasy 16 and neither are related to 10. There are only common elements like magic, crystals, etc. Final Fantasy 7 just so happens to be probably the most influential and well known entry. The modern games (Remake from 2020 and Rebirth from now) are parts 1 and 2 of a trilogy of games that are serving to remake the original FF7 from the 90s. I never played a Final Fantasy until 7 Remake (2020) and I loved it

I was in the same position a month ago...then I got remake and it was my favorite all time game . And now I'm playing rebirth and it's even better. I've played games since 2600 as well. The remakes are both masterpieces

FF7 Remake from 2020 is the first one I mean you could start with this but I dont see why you would. Itd be like starting Mass Effect at part 2. There’s a deal on the Playstation Store right now that gives you 7 Remake (with the DLC) *and* Rebirth all for the price of one

I enjoy some RPG grinding too, but that's not really what people have been critiquing when they discuss bloat here. It's more that it contains 6 open-world areas and each one contains the exact same set ofworld activities that don't really reward much to help with the grind. It's not like you're fighting a lot of monsters to gain levels. It's like you're walking around a new area six times and doing the same set of button timing minigames 4 times in each area to unlock a summon. That's the stuff that's being cited as bloat in reviews. Not saying you shouldn't dig that, just want to clarify that the thing you're discussing isn't what people are dissecting.

Mario. I hear you. But i think that people are forgetting one key thing. This game was broken into 3 parts. We have not seen the “open world” yet. It’s premature to say each area contains the exact same thing. If you play OG FF7 again, the open world literally has nothing but towns. There are tons of islands with nothing on it. Literally. But the idea of exploring is what makes it fun. And Final Fantasy has already been repetitive to an extent. There have been many times i knew that when i went to play the game, i was going to spend at least 5 hours just fighting the same enemies over and over again to boost my levels. I honestly think people expect too much out of any game. But if you are not an RPG lover, then FF is not for you. Stating facts.

I think you misinterpreted my comment. I think you think I was talking about fighting monsters over and over to gain exp or levels. I AM talking about the repetitive things that you do in each area. You might not like it. But, I think being a completionist, I love it. I want to do all the quests in each area even if they are similar. Yes, I get it. Each area has it's fighting quests, tower quests, proto relic quests, etc. And critics find that is bloat and a waste of time. Not everybody feels that way. If you don't like it, don't play it.

I adore the game and think it's the best game of the year currently. It's a pretty light critique in the grand scheme of the review, wouldn't you say?

Well, you put it on UKposts for the whole world to see. You should know that you are going to get criticized. You said 70 hours. I am on my first playthrough and I am at 135 hours. I haven't even beat the game. Why are people reviewing a game if they haven't thoroughly played the game? I didn't like how many minigames there are in it. However, I don't know that you can say they are weak. After all, they are clear rip offs of extremely popular games. Say they are weak to the millions who played Fall Guys, Witcher 3, etc. And it's your prerogative to not like the "bloat". However, you can criticize a game for the things you don't like while still acknowledging that others may love the things you hate. Besides, you only played 70 hours. How much "bloat" could you have endured? I've nearly doubled your playing time and will have completely crushed your playing time before I actually beat the game. In the end, it's your video and you can do what you want. Just like there is a comment section and I can give the feedback about the video. @@marioprime

Ff7 remake is my favorite square Enix game. I'm not sure what you expected. But this trilogy is giving me hope in Enix.

It's their art style, the PC version of FF7R has a reshade mod that changes it to look more typical if that's your thing.
