She is an evil would be imperialist who should be on trial for her part in causing this proxy war in Ukraine. Putin stood up in Munich in 2009 and asked the West to establish a joint security structure. His speech is on UKposts. Listen to him. Russia's position has not changed and is perfectly reasonable. Putin wants peace. You will learn more than you will listening to this woman for a year. The West refused. It wants to break up Russia, loot its resources, and reduce its people back to poverty. That is insane. Then the USA wants to attack Iran and China. There is a completely out of touch Deep State in the USA which has a Dr. Strangelove mentality. They are betraying the American people, and everyone associated with them.

Excellent overview of the challenges in meeting the net zero goal. Other solutions need to be considered that have less materials and less impact on building out the energy needs. Nuclear would be a good choice as an alternative, small environmental footprint with high energy density. The existing waste (spent fuel) can be re-used/recycled to use the remaining 90% of energy in it leaving little waste.

Fiona Hill is one of the handful of exceptional analysts from Europe or the USA who comment publicly on politics in Russia and Ukraine. It's always worth hearing her analysis on these topics. One thing that I think she didn't stress is that there could be an inflection point on the battlefield in Ukraine that is difficult to predict at this point. I don't think it's likely that Russia will suddenly capture large additional territories in Ukraine. They're already ramping up a new offensive, but it's failing miserable thus far. So I personally think that either we will see ongoing mutual attrition and stalemate on the battlefield with small amounts of territory going back and forth OR Ukraine may eventually have a breakthrough that could change the picture very quickly. Once Ukraine gets > 200 new tanks and hundreds of new IFVs as well as new shipments of artillery and longer-range strike capabilities like the GLSDBs, Ukraine may start to cripple Russia's defensive lines in parts of Ukraine. We have to keep in mind that Russians have been losing at least 1,000 troops per day to casualties, injuries, desertions, etc. Russia is losing enormous numbers of tanks and IFVs. Ukraine's ability to strike Russian targets with low-cost drones at scale has been increasing massively in the past several weeks. Once Ukraine gets its new deliveries of tanks and IFVs to the front lines in the south, it's possible that they will have already massively reduced Russia's equipment at the front through drone, artillery and HIMARS attacks. Then they'll attack Russia's air defenses and supply lines with GLSDB and other capabilities. Ukraine may lose large numbers of tanks and IFVs once they launch an operation to retake the south, but they may also be so effective that Russian lines could collapse very quickly. If Ukraine can rapidly retake the south, cut off Crimea, and start to threaten military bases in Crimea with regular strikes, Russia may have no viable option to continue fighting, and they may be forced into a peace deal. I don't think any military analysts truly know at this point how Ukraine's southern operation will proceed. I think Ukraine will retake the south one way or another, but it's unclear how quickly they will win back this territory. At this point, the west should absolutely maintain a dialog with India and also China to see if these Russian partners can help the USA pressure Russia, but I personally don't think that this diplomacy will be successful. So it's very likely that the fastest way to get to peace will be to give Ukraine longer-range capabilities that it can use to cut off Russia's logistics so Russia literally will no longer be able to continue its fight.

Putin did not want wat thogh did he? He could have advanced forces in 2014 & taken the Donbas, the two self styled republics appealed for that, however, he insisted they wee part of Ukraine and go for an agreement, which brokered by France & Germany were supported & resulted in the Minsk agreement being adopted UNIVERSALLY by the UN(Res2202)2015. This then became international law. Now we know this international law was totally ignored by Ukraine (reference Poroshenko, Merkel, & Allende statements about buying time to re-arm Ukraine). So this civil war, certainly disastrous for Russian speakers in the Donbas, never needed morph into invasion had the the Minsk agreement been fully adopted. That adoption only had to allow the Russian language & customs to continue as was laid down in the Ukraine constitution. America has said it wants to fight to the last man( btw, that's the last Ukraine man ) said it would not send tanks...because it would result in a wider war...& now it's building A1Abrams with inferior armour, to do exactly that. Said they will not supply fighter jets- for same reason. We will see. I suspect the US will see Ukraine losing and feel they have to do something and put boots on the ground- just as it did supporting a corrupt S.Vietnam regime- & we know how that played out. The Russian doctrine about using nuclear weapons has not changed- to not use a first strike but respond with total nuclear arms if attacked. The other reason, if conventional forces were overwhelming the Russian Federation. Ukraine cannot win this, it has no industrial base working now and millions have fled abroad ( to East & west) reducing any tax take.
@greenrosenz
@greenrosenz Рік тому
The more I listen to this the more I realize just how biased the presentation is. The WORLD is not on board with sanctions & now distrust the financial centre's which can steal states deposits at will. The petro dollar is definitely at risk as evidenced with resources being traded in non dollar currencies. I read the Paul Wolfowitz doctrine (1991)which was adopted in as US policy in 1992. The original draft that caused much alarm until wording adapted speaks volumes wrt world status today.

For those who are not familiar with the Minsk Agreement and it's history also known as the Minsk Protocol which was signed on September 5th 2014 and Minsk II signed February 12th 2015, as a resolution to the conflict in that region. American and Canadian oil producers are happier than hell that Russian pipelines are plugged or sanctioned so they can flog their wares to Europe. This war started weeks before the Nordstream Two was about to come online. Crimea´s offshore oil deposits and the Donbas Fracking Gas would have removed a lot of Russian leverage. First of all, the man is human, unlike the non empathic people we have in washington. Simply…. For 8 years the people of the Donbass, after the US made coup in 2014, asked to be a member of russia because they didnt want to be part of the US dominated government. He tried with the Minsk accord and if youve been listening to Merkel and Porochenko, they brag the document was just to buy time for Ukraine to fortify their forces on the borders of the Donbass. Ukraine was killing civilians in the Donbass for 8 years. 14,000+ dead. See alley of angels in ukraine. A memorial. The leaders in the Donbass once again asked Russia for help…. And in february, russia answered. Since the beginning of the operation, msm keeps saying hes sick and dying or has some malady. I watched a three hour video where he gave lecture with question and answers. This woman should watch …. Valdai…. Then give assessment. Not many would last an hour.

This analysis of Putin, interesting. Perhaps a similar examination of Biden might provide some balance. In regard to Putin thinking Kiev could fall in a few days, we do not know what he thinks, however much we think we know him. So many folk, including Fiona, fall in this error. She is seriously underestimating his thinking. He trained as a lawyer, has a PhD in economics, and was a successful operator in the KGB. He has a karate black belt. He is not a "nice" man, but he's not mad, he's not Stalin and he's not Hitler. He is more than aware of what is going on both near him, and far away. He pretty nearly single handedly rescued Russia from total collapse following the demise of the USSR and that is why his popularity in Russia is 80% reliably. I won't go on but this lady's analysis is facile and it's no wonder NATO and the US are losing this proxy war because they are all making the same mistake. Never underestimate your enemy. Better still, the US would be better to stop making enemies in the first place.

Great points!! Fiona Hill is a Neoconservative propagandist. I guarantee no one on here knows how Yeltsin was pushed by our Neoliberal economist to force Neoliberalism on Russia. All the Russian assets were stolen by the oligarchs and fifty percent of the working class was thrown into poverty. Putin turned things around. I was fifteen when the Cuban Missile Crisis happened. Our country went nuts but apparently it OK to put NATO at Russia's border. These people come across as spoiled children.

I know, it sounds ludicrous on its face. I’m no fan of Putin, but so much of what she says here is total shite. The world needs us to help them with these conflicts? That we create she means? If that isn’t gaslighting, I swear. I find it curious that she also states that Putin/Russia cannot comes to terms with the reality that it’s not as capable as it/he think they are. I think the US/West is finding this out right now. Also, no mention of Russia Gate, NATO expansion? She’s either ideologically locked into a position or she’s calculating this interview and the answers for certain public consumption. No mention of the continuous warnings about NATO expansion from Putin since 2000’s? No mention of BRICS? Of Minsk 1 or 2? Not only does she suggest that Putin is making up the NEO nationalist problem in Ukraine, she suggests that Zelensky is some kind of Churchill? The guy is sacrificing his country on the alter of western oligarchs and corporations as we speak. The fact that Zekensky was voted in to bring peace with the enforcement of Minsk Accords? What’s even crazier is that she suggests that this whole operation was kicked off basically by himself and his 2 friends, not the Duma? Even those who don’t like him in the West are admitting that is false and that he has historic support and approval, he and his country see this as existential, after stuffing Ukraine full of money, weapons and training their military for 8 years, they should. Just ask her what the US would do if Russia did that in Mexico. Ukraine is absolutely losing this, they never had a chance and it’s because of people like her that their country has been led down the garden path of destruction. Ukraine deserves better than these greedy vultures, for shame. This whole thing is about American hegemony,the rise of China and the fact that US elites sold itself out for larger, quicker profits, so instead of working WITH other countries, we must crush and dominate them? Europe, Germany especially, is being de industrialized as we speak because the key to their economic growth since WW2 has been cheap gas. We’re now able to sell them( and the rest of Europe) LNG at insanely inflated prices, No mention of the fact that we backed the coup in 2014 in Ukraine or the IMF loan that resulted shortly after? What utter bullocks this lady is, I guess she knows her job is spinning propaganda, so I can’t she’s terrible at her job. At least she’s honest that other countries are hesitant about their investing in the US, in sure a large oat of that is because they know who find every excuse to freeze, then steal their assets if they step out of line. If I saw Fiona on the streets in Washington, I would throw a tomato at her. Disgusting.

I cannot imagine a war of conquest that would have started only after an extremely cold, rational analysis of the prey of the planned aggression. I find this analysis very interesting and useful. But it seems to be coming from the presupposition that Putin is wrong and what has caused him to be so. I'm only a quarter into this interview but I want to get this question before I forget. This interview has also put forward the idea that he intended to take all of Ukraine. His stated intention was to liberate the Dombas where there had already been a constant war for 8 years with total estimated casualties of 14000 Ukraine. This had nothing to do with a desire to expand Russia's borders. It is also necessary to point out that the 2 provinces voted to be autonomous which central Ukraine refused to honor. It is also important to keep it context recent history of NATO since the early 1990s continuously moving its influence closer and closer to its borders while the new-found democracy of Russia was weak and in transition. During this time the evidence is overwhelming that Russia intended to improve its economic ties with its neighbors and it is this that the US saw as a threat. That evidence is also clear by the fact that at every turn the US sought to demonize Russia and worked against Russia's efforts to economically integrate with the world. This evidence was capped off by the destruction of the North Stream Pipeline which could have only been done by US/British/Isreal special forces. (AKA the west) Further, recent statements by Angela Merkel, arguably, indicate that the Minsk Accord was used as a stop-gap measure to build up the Ukrainian military. Further exposing the duplicitous nature of the West and NATO. When peace talks fail war can be counted on. In hindsight, Putin's failure is not only that he did not anticipate Ukraine's successes but also the insincerity of the West and not acting sooner. Such is the unpredictability of war, the need to change tactics, and from his current point of view the elimination of the threat by taking out all of Ukraine's potential to militarily come back. The future is uncertain.
