Johan Söderberg, who is not related to the two First Aid Kit sisters, directed the song's music video. It was filmed, "in the deep dark forest of Järvsö, Hälsingland." The Söderberg sisters explained: "It's about our destruction of the planet, but it's also about finding the animal within you. Because we know that underneath that polished, civilized exterior there is definitely a wild creature longing to howl or roar." This ballad was extracted from Hemliga bok i den stora mörka skogen (The Secret Book of the Great Dark Forest), a 359 parchment pages rare volume presently displayed in the Nordic Museum in Djurgården and believed to date back from the mid 16th century. According to the Swedish mythology, several wolves entered into an agreement with the underground creature Vittra to seduce humans into venturing through the great forest at night by singing strange songs. The few human who followed the wolves into the darkness got lost in vast expanse of swamps where they had to confront their own past, and for some of them, their disgrace, while Vittra, the underground creature, slowly crawled out to meet each of them.

What’s crazy is that when I heard this song for the first time, I really imagined a bonfire in the middle of the woods and people in animal masks gathering around and dancing to this song, the leaves on the trees are turning orange and it’s midnight, the song just echoing throughout the hills, so dark, so mysterious yet beautiful all at the same time, I’m very happy to see the actual video being so close to what I pictured in my head. I love how Witchy this feels, makes me want to dress up in old clothes like that and twirl around in a forest somewhere! Lol

Every other year or so I stumble upon a song and it goes like this... I listen to it for the first time and it catches my attention. There's something special there: a groove, a rhythm, a note that makes my ears go a-ha! I listen to it for the second time and the a-ha becomes a wow! There's clearly something gripping me. Then I listen to the song for a third time and I am suddenly overcome with emotion. The lyrics hit home. The melody sweeps me off my feet. I read into it an intensity that I can't control. The third time happened this morning as I was making breakfast. By the time the song got to "Where the sun would set, trees were dead and the rivers were none" tears were streaming uncontrollably down my cheeks. My children came down for breakfast and I couldn't stop hugging them all the while covering my face so they wouldn't have to see that their dad was crying for no reason. There's a magic feeling of wild, of loss, of death and resilience in this song. Where did it all come from? How did you make up words as beautiful as "the rivers were none"? Where is the wolf now?

This is beautiful, dark, and melancholic. I love it!

I always say that Sweden produces amazing musicians. I don't know how they do it, but it's amazing how many of its musicians are way above average!

Played this video for my mom who's an old hippy gypsy from the 70s and she said "whoa, this reminds me of stuff from my generation!" I used to love running through the forest with my two dogs ,many years ago ,don’t know why but it felt so great ,jumping streams running through the woods with my beautiful friends .Great video fantastic song .

I really loved this song when I was younger. I deliberately for years put off learning the actual authorial intent of the creators because I enjoyed reading it from a native perspective. The emphasis on the land and seeing the father and mother described as tired and sad- Hell even the lines about the devil lend well to a native reading. This meant a lot to me as some lonely Navajo kid growing up in a hella urban space.

Absolutely hooked. Fell in love with these two on my first listen. Unbelievably talented. Klara's voice is quite possibly the most beautiful sound I've heard.
