That is a dangerous romantic notion. Not all vets are good people. Not all vets were good servicemen. Not all vets earned honourable discharges. Just as some dishonourably discharged may have been great servicemen. Not all vets deploy(ed) or supported any troops deployed. It is great to show respect et appreciation to others, but doing it in a one size fits all lacks sincerity et is nothing more than echo chamber marketing gimmicks. Maybe 50% of enlisted earned that respect. There are many rapists, gangs, druggies, drug dealers, pedos, domestic violence etc in the military. People join for various needs or wants et very few join out of genuine patriotism. Overpraising- participation trophy style "respect" steals the honour from heros like this.

He did!!! God bless him!!! Just think if those men had been just half as brave as him, they would have rescued those kids in Uvalde. Very few men possess this quality, to be honest! I am also reminded of the pacifist who refused to carry gun in the army but who then carried ten men to safety, one each time, on his back as he crossed into enemy lines each time, to pick them up!!! At any of those ten times he could have been killed but he did what he swore to his faith, to be willing to lay one's life for another. He was vilified and severely bullied prior for not picking up a gun in the army. He was then recognized as a hero. If fact some of the very men that picked on him and bullied, were saved because of him.

This story has been distorted. There were no hundreds of Taliban storming their position, there were 12-14 anti coalition militia, the guy leading the militant attack was killed in 2008 in a shootout with the KPK Police in Pakistan. They were discovered not because of the goat herders, but because the militants found their fast rope, and a militant scout spotted them. SEALs had no idea they were already being stalked when they decided to let go of the goat herders and move up the mountain, that is why the ambush was perfect, since they were being observed beforehand. The whole firefight lasted around 30 minutes. One of the militants gave an interview describing all of it, the interview was shot 2 days after the attack, you can still find it on the internet somewhere. He was speaking in Pashto hence I understood every word of it. The SEALs were ambushed by 12-14 guys and attacked from 3 sides, caught in an impossible-to-survive situation and nowhere to fall back to, no solid cover and steep fall off to their back. The fact is, it was an extremely poorly planned OP to begin with. I have researched this story to death, from Marcus's point of view, to official military documentation & militants point of view. Now I am not taking anything away from their courage, but the fact is this story has been distorted and manipulated in the public's eye.

I knew it wasn't 40-50 like it was depicted in Lone Survivor, I just didn't know it was that small of a group. The story is still a wild one where there shouldn't have been survivors on the SEAL team.
