Scuba dive has changed my perspective towards animals deeply. Went from a voracious meat eater to vegetarian, went from believing that animals where just responding to instincts, to actually see that there was something beyond that. I’ve seen octopi meeting my gaze, looking straight into my eyes and reach with their tentacles out of pure curiosity. Sometimes even getting playful. I’ve seen a sea turtle asking for help to get fishing gear removed from a fin. I’ve seen moray eels getting familiar with me after visiting their hiding spot many times in a row… If we could manage to step out from our own bubble just a bit and see and listen to all those around us… We would be so much different.

They all feel and have a personality we just overcomplicate things and these days people think they need to talk and talk all the time to express how they feel but they don't... it only takes 1 facial expression or gesture to understand what someone means you just have to get used to it for each person, these days people take it so out of context as if it doesn't mean something innocent that it isn't simply what it is so people have lost touch with such simple communication cos they know it's actually very easy to form bonds without saying anything at all. Animals just continue to remind us of that.

Fish say, they have their Stream and Pond; But is there anything Beyond? This life cannot be All, they swear, For how unpleasant, if it were! One may not doubt that, somehow, Good Shall come of Water and of Mud; And, sure, the reverent eye must see A Purpose in Liquidity. We darkly know, by Faith we cry, The future is not Wholly Dry. Mud unto mud!--Death eddies near-- Not here the appointed End, not here! But somewhere, beyond Space and Time, Is wetter water, slimier slime! And there (they trust) there swimmeth One Who swam ere rivers were begun, Immense, of fishy form and mind, Squamous, omnipotent, and kind; And under that Almighty Fin, The littlest fish may enter in. Oh! never fly conceals a hook, Fish say, in the Eternal Brook, But more than mundane weeds are there, And mud, celestially fair; Fat caterpillars drift around, And Paradisal grubs are found; Unfading moths, immortal flies, And the worm that never dies. And in that Heaven of all their wish, There shall be no more land, say fish.

As a person who has had plenty of fish, they truly do have a connective personality. One of my dad's fish used to always run towards the end of the tank where the door was when anyone entered, and he would show his teeth at the person who entered. It was a Red Devil fish and he was mean!! LOL LOL LOL My dad LOVED that fish!! Another instance, is when hubby and I were in Hawaii, and there was this Koi Pond in our hotel with a fish that would greet us every morning when we walked over to the pond.

I remember when I was a kid, my family took me to Aruba. When I was out swimming in the ocean, a beautiful fish about the size of a tea saucer swam up to me and booped my arm. It swam a few feet away and I went over to it to boop its fin. We then proceeded to play tag, where I would touch the fish and swim away, and then the fish would boop me and swim away. My parents were absolutely hysterical, they couldn't believe a wild creature would be so playful and social

Having fish as an adult has opened my eyes to how cognizant and sentient they really are. My fish would swim up to the glass when I approached the tank and then swim along to follow me as I walked past. It wasn’t just at feeding time either. It was hard forming a bond with them because they’re so fragile in aquariums, so every time I could see one getting sick I treated them as best I could, but it was really sad when they passed anyway.

I had a very interesting experience with this species of fish when I went snorkeling in Guam in '92. A school of Butterfly fishes swam up to me, and literally started "kissing" my arms and legs, very gently, which was a euphoric feeling as I swam, then floated for a bit, around and above their choral reef. I will never forget that experience.... Fish can be very intelligent and they do have memories like us, growing up in the late 60's to early 70's, we had aquariums in my parents' home and I loved feeding the fish and my pet turtles I got later, tiny veggie eaters, they did not eat the fishies..

I was snorkeling in the East China Sea once and these little fish got in my face and were “talking” to me, little friendly chirps. I quit eating fish after that.
