Removable battery is now a security vulnerability. A thief now has to open the phone to disconnect the battery, or it would keep transmitting the eSim, & Location data.
@voteDC
@voteDC 2 роки тому
@@KB-ce5sh It's an easy reason. You don't need to keep close to a power outlet in order to be able to charge. If the phone runs out of power simply pop the back cover off and snap in a new battery. For many people battery anxiety is a very real thing, this was something you didn't have to worry about with removeable batteries.
@user-bp8yg3ko1r

@@nathanjuan6042 Your phone's battery will lose battery capacity after some usage. Having a removable battery doesn't shrink the capacity this much. 1. It's better for the environment 2. It makes it possible to carry a spare battery with you 3. You could eliminate charging time by simply using the full battery and charging the empty one. 4. The batteries will have a longer lifespan 5. You won't run into complications once your battery degraded.

The interview was talking about how Nokia didn’t put enough RAM in the device to run apps. At this time, all apps had to sequence off the internal memory, and the software “fix” was to move as much of the OS to the exterior memory (not the expandable memory as this was different) as possible to make room to keep applications from either crashing or having an error when trying to installing them. This is why the N97 mini existed.

The Nokia N800 was a true iPhone killer in the shadows but they never produced enough of them and barely promoted them. It was nothing short of amazing but meant to be a niche browsing device. From a series of N-series "internet tablets" (this was pre-iPad so it wasn't a well defined term yet) debian based linux distro called Maemo, for the N900 the biggest change was that they added phone capability but it was actually designed to be a browsing device (it had Firefox on it and was capable of rendering Flash). Which accidentally made an amazing smartphone experience! The biggest mistake was that their next CEO never properly pursued it's follow up: the Nokia N9 with Meego, the successor of Maemo, as they decided to focus smartphone efforts on Windows Phone (and cheap entry level "Asha" smartphones on Symbian).

Ditching GPU hardware acceleration on the S60v5 phones was a complete mistake for Nokia. The N95 had it, and allowed all those cool apps and 3D stuff. This was the time where Apple was impressing with the hardware abilities of their phones, and Nokia just said "nah" on the N97.

Not just GPU if you look at n95 SOC it was supperior in every way imaginable.... first it was with n96 where they used cpu without gou and no floating point... Nokia was downgradinf their phones... I was nokia fan but even then I couldnt understand what the execs were thinking... ngage had demos for phones with GPU acceleration and then at the full release they were all killed... even phones like n95 were never trully used to the full potential... n95 is way more powerfull than n97... Nokia just went insane
@user-yg4kj2mf1p

Generally, Nokia's choices during that period were baffling to say the least: From the decision to use a resistive screen and a weak-sauce SoC without 3D acceleration in their flagship N97 to the decision to choose SymbianOS (of all OSes) as the go-to OS against iOS. And then when they finally got the memo that SymbianOS had to be put to pasture, they chose... Windows Phone. Meanwhile, a Nokia N900 and its more-than-capable OS was probably sitting on the CEOs desk since 2009 (assuming they didn't want to jump into Android). Amazing.

I agree that the software needed work but IMO it wasn't a "relic" like GSMarena touts. They even pointed out that Nokia did true multitasking way before iOS did. Years in fact. Hell iOS had a serious lack of customizability by the time the N97 arrived. The biggest issue its OS had a problem with is accessibility to devs. With iOS and Android, all you had to do was download a dev kit and you're off to the races. Developing for Symbian was convoluted at best. If Symbian was easier to develop then it might have given Nokia a fighting chance and have had time to fix the tangibles that needed to be fixed like the resistive touch screen and UI usability.

+1 Completely agree, N97 was definitely not a relic. iPhone/iOS was the new benchmark for user experience, but power users and geeks did not necessarily care about UI/UX. Symbian had an SDK, and had plenty of apps outside Ovi (not sure why this was not mentioned). Writing in C++ has a steeper learning curve than Java, and I think Nokia tried to address this with PyS60 (Python for S60). As far as touchscreens go: 1 - At that time period there were plenty of people like me who did not (and still do not) like typing on touchscreens. 2 - N97 was meant to be used landscape like the communicators. The touchscreen was an afterthought.

I was working in phone sales when this was released. This was an incredibly bad product, was riddled with issues so much that the major carrier here in Australia removed it from sale for large periods. This was Nokia's chance. Users were already tired of the iPhone. I often had customers coming into the store with cracked screens or batteries barely lasting a day and specifically asking about what Nokia had at the time, as they had fond memories of the N95 and other previous Nokias. Despite this, I couldn't in good faith sell them the N97 because of how bad it was. It was quite sad to witness Nokia's demise from there; however the smartphone era really steamed ahead without them.

I have 2 N900's still lying around somewhere. I wrote and compiled my first C program on the N900. It's a phone I'll never forget.

Meego was way ahead of its time Stephen Elop is the reason for Nokia’s fall not N97,remember N97 had a better sibling with linux based OS Maemo like android and iOS which was later updated and dubbed Meego, that OS had gestures and always on display when android phones had capacitive touch keys and iphone had homebutton,although yes the gesture crown and os crown from back then goes to palm android,ios and many other platform just stole everything from them even the recent most magsafe on iphone 12 lol

I remember my terrible experience with the N97, I had to return it and get the HTC touch pro 2 which was my first smartphone running windows mobile.

Before the Microsoft - Nokia partnership, Nokia created the successor of the Symbian OS, the MeeGo OS (was Linux based). Sadly the partnership killed the MeeGo OS for the sake of the Windows OS (which ended in a disaster for Nokia Mobile).

@Mithrandir even back then, Nokia was still market leader untill 2012 followed by Samsung, and Android brands are still ahead of Apple.

I remember watching ads for this phone and thinking what ballers the people that owned these were. In my country it was crazy for anyone to purchase a phone as expensive as this one was.
