This was the year that they played “Armitage Shanks” when nobody had ever heard it before, instead of playing one of their established “hits”. The song is incredible, it helped peek our interest for their next album (Insomniac), & took a lot of balls.

I remember that VMA. Everyone was expecting them to play Basketcase, or Longview, or When I Come Around, and they freaking played Armatage Shanks. That song wasn't even released on that time. Brilliant.

Its cool watching these. It puts their maturity and advancement into perspective. Billie seems sort of nervous here, but now, he owns every room he walks into. Its amazing how they have evolved

billie was right on the ball when he said "there's no place for competition in music". that's exactly right, music like many art forms has to be diverse and interesting in order to keep evolving, and you can't really mark any one genre or contribution above the rest imho.
