Former burglar Octave "Oky" Durham and art detective Arthur Brand look at nine art-theft scenes from popular TV shows and movies and rate them based on realism. Octave Durham is no longer involved in criminal activity. Since he has reformed and spent time in prison, he works with detective Arthur Brand to solve international art and jewellery heists.
They look at "The Thomas Crown Affair" (1999), "The Monuments Men" (2014), "The Art of the Steal" (2013), "Topkapi" (1964), "Ocean's Twelve" (2004), "Dr. No" (1962), "Black Panther" (2018), "Hudson Hawk" (1991), and "The Blacklist" S2E14 (2015).
Could anyone walk out of a gallery with a piece of art? How are gallery security guards trained? Is gallery CCTV actually monitored? Do thieves ever abseil in from the ceiling? And does Interpol actively chase down stolen paintings?

That is because they are talking from their experience. Thief is looking at how its really done(Successfuly) and how its done in the movie. While the detective must have been able to catch the unsuccessful heists or bad thiefs so his experience is that these stupid things are done by amateur people. Hence, the difference in ratings

My partner is German, her grandfather (also German not Jewish) was an art lover, and, during WW2 he learnt about what the Nazis were doing to all the culturally priceless pieces of art. He actually hid Van Goghs, Rembrandts and other pieces of artwork in the large townhouse he lived in at the time. NONE of them were discovered all through the war. At the end of the war he surrendered them back to Allied liberating forces, as he saw them as belonging to all mankind to be enjoyed and viewed. What I really enjoy about these videos of these duo is that no one in the comment section is screaming at Insider fo bringing ex-cons to talk like regular human being or want to cancel the show cuz it is misleading or bad teaching the kids. Even in the previous video where he has not mentioned the fact he did the time - everyone is just sensible enough to assume that because he can actually sit there and in a very COLOURFUL orange sweater (love it), not a jumpsuit, that he has done what’s required for him to be sitting next to an art detective.

Not necessarily. While some laser sensors do actually need a sensor to detect something, like the cheap sensors used in detecting if something is in the way of a garage door closing, most laser sensors commonly used are something called a laser time-of-flight sensor. These send pulses of laser light in a specific pattern, and time how long these pulses take to return back to the sensor. Using this time and the speed of light, they can work out the distance to the target from the sensor, and from that figure out if they need to send an alert. These are commonly used in industrial automation for part sensing and detection in assembly lines.

To be fair, Hudson Hawk is made to a comic book standard of thievery and villainy. The Mayflowers alone are eccentric and over the top. Eddie wasn’t listening to music while sneaking around the gallery; he and his buddy and business partner Tommy Two-Tone SING the songs to themselves, based on the time of the song so that they know they have that much time before things become complicated and have to cut and run. The music overlay is just there for the audience. It’s so over the top Eddie and Tommy sing LOUDLY once they find the prize and finish the song as a duet in the middle of the gallery floor. 0/10 for reality, 10/10 for fun and wackiness.
