If you want sad... the pension Roddy was talking about in that clip wasn't even from his career in wrestling because the WWE doesn't have pensions. You realize what is killing these men is concussions and side/after effects of long-term or high level steroid use. Concussions are always a risk. Losing Test was such a heartbreaking shame. Vince is weird -- like Maven said, he'll show no empathy straight-up but he'll do something overly nice for you out of the blue when you're down on your luck or going through a hard time. He and Bret hated each other for years but the second Bret had a stroke, Vince called him and gave him a pep talk and secured his DVD deal. I'm disgusted at how he leveraged his power so he could fuck his staff but I know that he cares about other people deep down and isn't a psychopathic billionaire. Vince is a genius who behaved like a scumbag at times and despite genuinely loving his talent, would always put himself first for the sake of business. Sweet comes with sour -- no excuses. The law has a very long arm ...
@vDeadbolt
@vDeadbolt 8 місяців тому
@@xziggy_stardustx6786 with the situation between Bret and Vince, it was Vince's fault that the two stopped seeing each other eye to eye. He knew that the Montreal screw job would have pissed Bret off, so he let Bret land a clean punch to his face. It was the same situation with Kurt Angle. People like to play it off like the two hated each other when Angle left, but in reality Vince was trying his hardest to send Kurt to rehab and Kurt refused to let that happen. So he had no choice but to let him go. The difference between those two was that Vince still saw value in both of them and was devastated to see them go. Remember how he treated the Ultimate Warrior before his passing (even though it was deserved) or how he treated Hogan when he left for WCW?

Maven, thank you for all the time and effort you put into the business. It's a hard life and everyone who does it should be commended for their talent and their dedication. I'm definitely looking forward to more videos, and you'll be making them until you're 100! I tried to get into the business years ago. (I have a distinct look being Chinese, Japanese and Hawaiian) UPW (Cena was the Prototype there) accepted me but the 9-11 tragedy stopped the move in 2001. Had a match with Yuji Nagata and another with Dragon Gate. Did a Chikara event with Generico, Fire Ant, Eddie Kingston and others. Teddy Hart moonsaulted on my head. Almost had a match with AJ Styles. My FCW tryout was with AJ Lee and Adam Rose. I had a smackdown tryout where I helped a run in with Matt Hardy. It was a short run but my regrets are not getting to meet and learn from all of the wrestlers from that time. Much love to everyone on their path. I hope you get farther than me.

We wished we could have seen WWE use him better and actually show how great he is in more ways than one, it's hard when your spot is restricted and the top guys try to bury you, also with personalities like Jericho to contend with who seems to get the better of other mid-carders but yeah more segments, promos and an interesting storyline and his own show on WWE like Carlito's Cabana would have taken off and got him even more over. He didn't just become like this overnight, Maven was always a great guy as a testament to other stars who worked with him and were close with him

Yeah, but I don't see how anyone can watch that segment and Maven's reaction to it and not come away from it understanding that McMahon & WWE are absolutely horrendous & exploitative and there needs to be significant changes to how that company operates. Legally forced if need be. Most of all by stopping them from claiming their performers are independent contractors despite the fact that they objectively aren't in order to sidestep laws about giving employees health benefits & pensions and so forth.

I love the formatting for his videos and the vibe of what he's been doing. Giving insight, his opinion and also walking us through with key points and keeping it factual. I didn't know John Oliver spoke up about wrestling which was good to see, as the whole independent contractors thing has rattled the internet for years now. Wrestling's a real double edged sword. Keep up the great work Maven, can't wait to see the next video.

Thankful Maven stopped wrestling, he was in a really bad way in 2012 and he himself talks about this as well when it comes to addiction to painkillers but he's done very well to persevere and has avoided taking bumps for a while, is still relatively fit but the pain stays with you and only gets worse as you get older unless something drastic can be done. It's not too late, Piper has been wrestling until his late 50s (not as much of course) but at that time had been wrestling for nearly 40 years. The issue is if Maven still had an issue with the pain pills then he would seriously need to worry as that is one of the major killers of wrestlers, that's exactly how Test passed away so soon at age 32 even though Test only wrestled for just over 10 years at that point.
