In this video, our bus undergoes a huge transformation. From a metal shell to a wood shell, in an extremely laborious week, we frame out everything in our skoolie. Let us show you how we framed our walls, windows, roof, and wheel wells in this comprehensive (but also fun) 5th part to "The Skoolie Project" series. For more Jess & Jake content, check out our UKposts Shorts for bite sized fun.

*We are not trained professionals and do not have any type of formal construction education. We have taken the best-of-the-best information from various sources and trusted friends to make our bus survive decades of adventures! We can always "do things better" but with our skill set, situational circumstances, and budget this is the best we can manage with our hopeful spirts and four hands. Don't pointlessly be negative, we are open to constructive input and advice. Thank you :-) *

Wait - did y’all drive the bus to the home depot while you work on it? Genius!
@JessandJake
@JessandJake 6 місяців тому
We have definitely done that before, makes it a breeze if we need more supplies and/or forget a piece of something. The walk from the bus's door to the store is like 30-45 seconds :-D

@@JessandJake at the front where you enter on the right side by the stairs, I'd recommend a built-in litter box on a drawer slide for easy cleaning and one of those small dog doors. And for the bathroom, I'd recommend building a shower and compost toilet by the emergency exit for easy access when cleaning. Hope this helps and gives you ideas☺

Jess and Jake - I love love love watching all of your videos! One question I have is: what kind of screws do you use to attach the framing to the bus interior?
@JessandJake
@JessandJake 6 місяців тому
Hi there, thank you so much for watching and enjoying our videos :D. We typically use "tek" screws, they have multiple applications, but for this application we used wood-to-metal. Thanks for asking.
@NicholsRCGarage

Why didn't you choose to put pink insulation foam in the ceiling or walls before framing? Using the air gap as insulation instead, similar to how a double paned window works?
@JessandJake
@JessandJake 6 місяців тому
Fair question, we plan on spray foaming all the roof, walls, along with nooks and crannies. When that happens, all the gaps will be insulated and the foam will provide some structural stability as well. Hopefully that clarified :-)

Still gave you the like for effort and subbed since you're concerned and taking thermal bridging into consideration. It's your party so do as you want to, I'd never take that from anyone, it's yours, build it that way you want to. Though, I disagree with the 2x3 and would have continued with the 3/4 in x 2inch strapping. You can always double layer 3/4 strapping, and even criss cross it for more thermal bridging protection by having your last strap not touching metal at all other than the screw into the strapping below. Doing this method, you still have the added space for spray foam, and the added strength. When done that way, your framing looks like a huge waffle.
