i feel like no one who is a tech influencer talks about this enough. I get that the english speaking internet is amerocentric, we all know that, but we **need** to talk about Google's insistence that US is the only country in the world. And their excuses about the difficulty in bringing things to other countries rings hollow when the likes of Samsung and Apple (who they are competing with) do much better with this in every regard. There are so many examples of Apple/Samsung releasing features in 10s if not 100s of counties at once and google making it US only at launch and for a few years. (Google Pay/Wallet/whatever used to be US only for quite a while iirc. Apple wallet never had such geo restrictions).

Exciting because it could be the advent of a telecommunications infrastructure paradigm shift. Today just sms. 5 or 10 years from now ...??? Who knows what technology ideas and innovations will be made possible with a satellite mesh network. Honestly, I'm just most excited about us based telecommunications companies like Verizon getting a long over due helping of humble pie after how they've screwed the American people in advancing our infrastructure and taking millions in tax payers' money and not delivering on what was promised with the funds.

@@ReadyMeta1 I also live in the UK and my wife didn't in the middle of a national park when her car broke down and had to wait for someone to drive by to get single and call an emergency pick up service. Again its a feature that won't be used by everyone but in some cases it could be a life saver.

@@ClaxtonBay123I believe the snapdragon SOC is more than just the raw performance it's about the overall platform their modems are the best. I've used an Exynos it felt bad cell reception was terrible and it felt different using the Tensor but what I have seen is that it overheats too much and the modem it's just bad and it may be solvable with the TSMC fabs but if Tensor wants to be on top they need to ditch Samsung to have a better CPU/GPU modem wise I believe they need Qualcomm for that.

Is this good news? When you consider how the S24 international version has been derided for having an Exynos SoC over a more expensive and objectively better Snapdragon, it's difficult to see this as a win.

You can still consider it a win, as this year Exynos was pretty competent compared to Snapdragon, with admirable performance that's not too lacking, better battery than before, better temperature control than before.

I'm eager to see what Google is going to do with the Pixel Tablet 2... I almost have the complete Pixel ecosystem. I have my Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel Watch, and Pixel Buds Pro(switching back to Sennheiser soon) but the Pixel Tablet just wasn't good enough in terms of specs and productivity. I had to go with the Samsung Tab S9 for my work and school.

1:28 no it will not. iPhone satellite connectivity works in many countries around the world (including here in Canada). As such, Apple has always, historically, released a feature either worldwide or to many countries at once. Google OTOH, almost every feature they have introduced over the years on their phones and services have been US exclusive (with the exception of a few that are meant for emerging markets like that lightweight android OS). There is absolutely NO reason to believe that sattelite calling will be anything but a US exclusive, unlike apple.

until google can move away from samsung who help provide their tensor chip, the pixel phone will be a sub-average flagship from a technical point of view. google's software glosses over some issues but overall their phones are not good enough. The samsung s24 ultra has a snapdragon chip which tells what samsung thinks of their own exynos chip.

I would gladly use a Pixel phone if it weren't for the awful Samsung derived chipset. I would rather use a Pixel with last years Qualcomm than a new Samsung chip, which will almost certainly be slower, less power efficient and less reliable. Come on Google bring back Qualcomm, like you had in the Pixel 4a 5g, the last Pixel I used long term.

Real time experience is amazing though. The UI is much smoother than s24U. In real life, the performance difference is something you can't experience, but smoothness is on the pixel's side. I switched back to P8P, much better experience

@@szilardkorhetz1188 I did exactly the opposite. I had the Pixel 8 pro, and it was a stuttery mess. The Google feed stuttered so much when I was scrolling that it was unusable. The Tensor chip is also incompatible with my Cyrus external DAC. This wouldn't have been a problem if the music playback of the phone had been any good, it wasn't! The sound would play for 5 minutes then distort heavily. The DAC works fine on other devices, so it isn't the DAC. I switched to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. I did this because it uses the Qualcomm chipset, not Samsung's own Exenos chipset which has never been able to match Qualcomm.

@@Manuel-rl6um I have pixel 8 pro, I was expecting it to be better in a lot of ways by far in comparison to s23 ultra but if your coming from Samsung then stick with it. This phone should be 700$ max. It's not worth the price also worth noting is the fact that it's chip is cheap not even snapdragon but price is matched with those who have snapdragon.

@@daasguy99 iPhones, Galaxys, Pixels, they all have incremental upgrades. You expecting the Pixel 8 Pro to be much better than a Galaxy S23 Ultra is having unrealistic expectations. Specially when the S23 Ultra was still one of the best phones of the year almost a year later. I change my phone every 3 years or so and I'm looking to upgrade every 4 or 5 years.

@@Manuel-rl6um I switched from galaxy cuz of it's hardware issues. No. 1 just applying a screen protector broke my screen and had a pixelated line. The front selfie camera got a blurry issue later on as well. Samsung should ditch the s pen and stick with a hard screen rather than a semi soft bendable screen which leaves intended marks after some use.
