Going away doesn't mean he has control. Look back at his transformation. He got corrupted (black and his pupil turning purple) and could not control himself from killing the devil. That smile showed that cuphead wasn't in control. He probably teleported because it's smart to do so when both your enemy's (it's cannon that the nightmares don't like each other) are 10x stronger then you are.

Lvl 19 does 1 Layer of 9's with their swing against Sans who has literally 1 Defense. Meaning that is the MAXIMUM amount of damage Frisk/Chara can do at lvl 19. They did almost a full EXTRA LAYER of 9's worth of damage to Asgore at lvl 20, Nearly minutes later, Asgore has the highest Defense in the Game "Outside of crazy Characters like Asriel and whatnot" Do you even understand just how much more powerful that is? How absurdly much of a GAP in power boost they got from lvl 19 to 20? Defense is % based my dude... "In most Games anyway" If you had 40 Defense vs 1, That's literally a like to the 40th power of dmg boosting. And obviously the point to get across here is that Frisk/Chara just showed up out of nowhere and stabbed Asgore once, With no hesitation, And without much effort. The fabled "Timeline ending swing" is an obvious one, Chara destroys the screen with a nearly infinite Layers 9 attack, And all that's left is the Barrier afterward, Chara literally destroyed the entire Underground in a SINGLE swing at Lvl 20, That is an INSANE show-case of power. The reason why I said though that Chara/Frisk would still need to attack a lot of times to crack the Nightmare Shell though is the fact that Nightmare Forms can seem to take reality bending-level attacks, And barely get phased by them. It takes like 2 minutes of nonstop Planet-buster level attacks before cracks even start to form on them. So Chara/Frisk wouldn't be able to break it easily, But they WOULD be able to eventually if given enough time. TLDR: I'm blown away at how ridiculous your Comment was, And wrote a GIANT paragraph about how CANON Chara/Frisk, Can actually hurt Nightmare Sans at Lvl 20, They just can't get to Lvl 20 without killing him. Lvl 19 ain't doing shit in comparison. Nothing that I've said is from any Fanfic my dude, "Outside of the concept of Nightmare Forms as a whole anyway" It's all Canon.

He didnt destroy the reset, he stopped Frisk from resetting, destroyed their save and teleported them to another world using the indie cross portal, thats why he says he wishes so they never come back, because theyre still put there somewhere, and were probably forced to make a new save wherever they fell into

If I'm not mistaken, the way to obtain the nightmare transformation is by contacting the Morø himself, the ray that transforms entities into nightmare forms is divine energy that increases your abilities much more and gives you powers of the other characters in the play or game you belong to. Maybe sans managed to convince morø to give him divine energy to win against frisk/chara.

They can't do damage fast enough and sure the attacks are evident but whether sans actually lets you dodge them is the key factor, it seems just getting close to him is enough for him to just eradicate them

He got even more resistant to the resets, to the point where he changed the entire cenario and patterns when Frisk had just loaded To beat this Sans you literally need to do a no-hit while fighting through an extremely unpredictable pattern, with absurd speeds just to add that cherry on the top of the cake.
