It’s a difficult conjecture for me. I loved Ghosn for actively supporting and bringing out the GTR. I despised Ghosn for cutting costs for volume cars and making them cheaper built(especially those unreliable CVTs) I loved Ghosn for keeping the leaf project alive(The only better option then). G-Wiz was so unsafe! I despised Ghosn for merging Renault-Nissan with Mitsubishi. Looking back. All the things I loved above have lost money for the alliance. While all the things I despised have kept the companies afloat. Hell, even profitable. We have all seen CEOs do a lot worse and get away with it. Question though is… Let’s say Ghosn did underreport his compensation and that he did buy/use company property and resources for his personal benefit. Does the above outweigh all the things he has done to keep the alliance profitable and stock holders happy? I definitely DO NOT think so…. This is just an Automotive Engineer venting out his frustrations. All opinions are my own and do not reflect the views of the organization(s) I work for.

I haven't read all the comments below. But, I really think that Ghosn-san's decisions and actions were right! It was really good for him and I could say that it was the only way for him to survive from the situation no matter any other people say because I am 100% sure that people who complain about his actions don't understand the real Japan which is nearly invisible from most people including many Japaneses and most foreigners. Needless to say, there are no fair judgements in Japan, and I guess he could have mental disorder if he didn't escape from Japan though I have no idea what was happened to him if he was not a famouse person. I am a Japanese and I have been worked in various global companies in Japan standing between Japan and other countries after I lived in US for 10 years. So, I could tell how much Japan is weired and different from other countries and a terrible country. I can tell that Japan is the furtherst country from the global world ,in short. On the other hand, I understand that there are many chances for foreigners to start or run businesses in Japan. But, I really recommend to make sure they have some ways to leave immediately from Japan if something goes wrong or some mothods to be able to get good supports to get out of troubles in Japan. I really hope that Ghosn-san will get the fair justice soon, and I really hope that he will run some businesses or work in some companies because I could tell that he is very smart person and has all necessary skills as management though I don't know his personality. On the other hand, I am very sorry that not only Ghosn-san but also many smart and skillful people are leaving and left from Japan. I hope I could work outside of Japan in the near future.

Ghosn was hailed as a hero in Japan, until Japanese media did their best to destroy his reputation with comical depictions of him being the thief of thieves. Totally unfounded charges levied on this innocent man who raised the global car industry from the brink, and reinvigorated Nissan, Mitsubishi, Renault, and other big companies worldwide. He is an innovator, like Nikolas Tesla, and Galileo. Imagine what he would have done with electric cars had companies not colluded to keep the status quo. They also raided his overseas home in Lebanon without permission of him, or the Lebanese government. There was heat because he brought an unorthodox way of innovation, a way that was more international-minded, and not isolationist, not Japanese. Companies all over Japan are struggling, it took one internationally minded man to achieve financial success, hint, hint.
