The style of teaching you use is wonderful. Duolingo was like a competition on Facebook. I got ambitious one week and spent most of the week practicing my Irish. The next week they expected me to mach or exceed that. It was push, push , push. I felt like I was being tortured. On top of that The pronunciation was different from instance to instance with no explanation. The way you teach is miles above that! It's actually what I hope existed, but didn't think anyone was doing this. SO I THANK YOU VERY MUCH JASON!

Thanks, George! I highly recommend the torcs from Craft Celts. His work is extremely skillful and he'll look after you if anything happens to one of his pieces. One of the strands broke on my torc years ago and he fixed it for free. I'd like to buy him a pint sometime and hear more about this work. Enjoy your weekend!

Google was no help, so I came here to ask a question, and as fate would have it you used what I'm curious about in your first example! What is " 'S " short for?
@GaelicwithJason
@GaelicwithJason 3 роки тому
Good going, Fate! The 'S in 'S e is just a shortened form of *Is*, which means 'is/am/are'. It's emphatic though, ie: 'S/Is math sin = That is GOOD! 'S e biadh Thai as blasta = It is THAI FOOD that is the most delicious. Whatever follows that * Is / 'S * is the most important bit of that phrase. Does that help, Kyle?

What if it was the smallest, tastiest cup of coffee? An cupa cofaidh as lugha bhlasta?
@takashi.mizuiro

@erraticToaster92
@erraticToaster92 3 роки тому
maybe it is as lugha as blasta, or as lugha agus as blasta.
@GaelicwithJason
@GaelicwithJason 3 роки тому
Hmmm, I see a few options here: 1) An cupa cofaidh as lugha, as blasta.... *or* 2) An cupa cofaidh as lugha agus as blasta... *or* 3) An cupa cofaidh as lugha 's as blasta... (agus --> 's) Of those, I personally would go with 3. Native speakers often shorten 'agus' to just * 's*. It helps the words flow into one another a bit more smoothly.

Would "S' e as blasta" mean "It is the tastiest" on its own? Or would you need to state what you're referring to within the sentence?
@GaelicwithJason
@GaelicwithJason 3 роки тому
Nicely done, Levi. Yes, that would work if what you're referring to is grammatically masculine. Otherwise it would start with 'S i. 🙂

Ionnsachadh Gàidhlig? Bidh e nas dorra na tha dùil air ... 😕
@GaelicwithJason
@GaelicwithJason 3 роки тому
I hear you, Graham. If we approach Gaelic in an intellectual way, it can seem complicated. If it's useful to you, I recommend not worrying too much about grammar and specific rules at the beginning. Leave that for when you're already conversational and wanting to sharpen your accuracy. Take it little-by-little and focus on the meanings of words and phrases. This way will not only save your sanity but get you to fluency more quickly. I am here for you, a charaid! You can do it. 🙂
