These gravity equations, and the implications we're deriving from them, would still depend on distance working the same way as in our world. But does it? For example, does light brightness taper off the same in all directions, in a circle, from its source? If not, then we already have signs that distance doesn't quite behave the same way as we might expect. If the equation for light brightness is different, things like gravity might also work differently. And I'm not sure there's a straightforward coordinate remapping between them either, since I don't think running speed works in the kind of squarish way we might expect from the light brightness. I don't know what equations *would* be right, but I think there is enough evidence to show that we cannot rely on equations from our world transferring so easily to the minecraft world. I suspect that in order to account for all of the observations we could make, we would find that the physics works substantially differently, and not just the distances.

Hey Matpat, this just popped in my head. So the core of the earth is round as we know, what if in Minecraft it was a cube as well? Making it reach all sides in equal distance? Is that correct on any level?

Actually, Earth isn't a perfectly round sphere. She's a oblate spheroid. Slightly fatter around the equator and flatter at the poles, thanks to the centrifugal forces acting on her while spinning. So at the poles, you actually will weigh a tiny bit more than at the equator, since you're closer to the core.

Solution: THE SENTER OF THE MINECRAFT EARTH IS A SQUARE

there is one thing about the whole, "being further away from the core" logic that I feel should be addressed: if the core of the planet was ALSO a cube, and aligned with the planet, meaning that the edges of the core pointed towards the edges of the surface, wouldn't the gravity still be the same since the corners of the earth match up with the corners of the core? (sorry if this makes no sense, I'm very tired rn and sorta just writing whatever pops into my head)

Here's a better question, When you dig straight down in Minecraft; you will eventually hit bedrock. If you go into creative mode and break the bedrock, you fall into something called the 'Void.' Does this mean the Minecraft world has no mantle? Is there NO core? Is it because you burn or suffocate to death? The 'Void' is said to be endless, meaning that you would fall forever, but if the planet's round, keep in mind you can see stuff after you die, wouldn't you be crushed by the pressure of getting too close to the core and you would see the core, or would you just fall to the other side of the planet. If there's nothing causing the gravity, how is there gravity?

TL;DR: Minecraft is not a sphere, it is an infinite plane and the sky is the inside of a sphere. And MatPat, please do a video on this new theory! This is the only Minecraft theory from this channel that I don't believe. As we all know, Minecraft worlds are infinite and procedurally spawn near the player. On a spherical world, you would be able to travel in one direction and come back to where you were. In Minecraft, this is impossible even without a world border because of Minecraft's laws. I think Minecraft's Overworld is instead an entire dimension represented by a plane infinitely extending across the X and Y axes, with Z being limited by the void that exists beneath the bedrock. The sky appears to be a sphere that always rotates around the player and passes through solid objects. Even if you could argue that the spherical planet grows in size to accomodate for the infinite generation, that would mean the planet's mass and therefore its force of gravity also increase. No one has ever experienced this before, even when travelling hundreds of kilometers to generate additional terrain. And even if you can somehow prove that Minecraft is indeed a mundane sphere planet, gravity is obviously not the driving force behind why things return to the ground. Only a few select block types fall, while most stay afloat in midair. This disproves the flat-earth-rising-9.8m/s-theory, gravity, and centrifugal force. The only explanation left is that strange, haunting emptiness that makes you wither away below Z = 0. Perhaps a malevolent force wants to destroy all mobs and sand and gravel blocks, and so draws them down into its unseen maw. Maybe a whole other dimension --perhaps the realm of the dead-- lurks beneath the world, drawing all living things down into it? If this last were true, that would also mean trees are not living while sand and gravel are. All of what lies below the Overworld is just speculated, but the rest is undeniably plausible and most likely true.

if you think about it, your moving in the same speed as the earth. so if the earth moved at 1600kmph u wud also move at 1600kmph so as to land in the exact same place. its like jumping in a moving train and landing in the same place. also sand, gravel, the player/s and the mobs and item drops are the only things affected by gravity. 99% arent

Actually, the Minecraft world is neither a cube nor a sphere. It's a literal flat *plane*, for the simple fact of _the lack of time zones_. No matter where you are in the Overworld, it's the same time, with the same position of the sun and/or moon in the sky, as it is for anyone and everyone else, no matter where they are in the same world. This is geometrically impossible for anything other than a flat plane. The geocentric part of the theory still holds, though, and I'm not sure how to explain the gravity being a constant vector of [0, -1, 0], but I think I read another theory somewhere that under the world is a hypermassive black hole: large enough that for the surface area of the Minecraft play area, gravity can be effectively thought of as a constant direction; the singularity far enough away that surface gravity is low enough for life to exist; and the event horizon being right up against the bottom of the bedrock (the Void being the event horizon). Not sure where to go with that, but yeah. No time zones. Flat _plane_. Not a cube, nor a sphere. #MatPatMissedSomething

You know... you are just wrong with this one. Since Minecraft is a separate world with physics different to ours (for excample gravity does not affect most elements) you can't base your argument on gravity in the real world not working this way. Here goes my theory based on facts: Minecarft Earth is flat. Not even a cube but basically flat. Gravity in Minecraft isn't caused by mass but by an universal downward pull, as proven by being able to fall underneath the flat earth. If you were to cross the end of the world however you wouldn't fall down, since this "Earth" is the base of the universe but much rather make the universe collapse (Java exception to be concrete).
