Here's a new Tony Cam video for your viewing pleasure taken from 'The Way We Walk' original release DVD!! In this video we get to see a great view of Tony playing "The Old Medley" bits of "Dance on a Volcano" with a tiny bit of "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" then after that we hear the ending bit of "The Musical Box" which goes into "Firth of Fifth" and ends with the beginning of "I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)"!! I would've included the entirety of "The Old Medley" but these parts I've recorded were the parts focused on Tony. SO, after all that explanation, I hope you enjoy this!!

I've listened to Genesis since the early 70ies. Was always fond of Gabriel and Collins. But in the years I've come to realize that that the genius behind the music of Genesis is..Tony Banks!

Tony makes his music pop and classical at the same time. He learned classical music in school before joining Genesis. The way he composes and plays can put him in the company of Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and others. Talented he is.

Thanks for the heart. Tony deserves a lot and most of Genesis's music is built on his melodic inventions.

I'd say he was definitely the greatest *composer* of the classic prog era. He was technical yet creative, and without being a show-off like so many of his contemporaries could fall into the trap of being. His playing just speaks to me on a certain level that the other big names couldn't quite manage to do. His chord progressions and melodies just evoke a lot of emotion for me. The man was and is a genius.

@@sega62s You can't compare Tony from 1984 and Tony from the 70's. He indeed went more and more pop as time went by but in those "golden genesis years" i'm sure he was really the brain behind the band. Both David Henschell and Tony Smith themselves said that.
@sega62s
@sega62s 3 роки тому
Joaquín Velázquez not so sure, Hackett and Gabriel left the band for some reasons....and they are both great composer, I think its a group affair, cause as a solo artist it is nowhere near any stuff from genesis
@joaquinvelazquez913
@joaquinvelazquez913 3 роки тому
@@sega62s Gabriel left for family reasons and to pursue a solo career, and Hackett left because he felt underrated and because he didn't like the orientation the of the music the rest of the band were wanting to pursue. Obviously 5 brains create greater things than 1 brain but i'm still positive that Tony had the last say back in the day. Was it fair? I don't know, it's no surprise by now that Tony was not the friendliest kind of person back then but his musical mind was the most influential in Genesis. Just my opinion.

It's a matter of personal preference, of course, however I would yet like to know WHY Tony shouldn't be called the greatest keyboardist of all time? The sounds and the tones that he has been able to produce and release with his keyboards over the past decades have been nothing but delightful. He and my boy Phil should be considered the greatest drummer/keyboardist duo of all time due to their unparalleled and unmatched harmony and chemistry, which have both been palpable. As a matter of fact, playing together they sound above and beyond orgasmic. One essentially listens an instrumental song within a main instrumental song of the band. Mind-boggling.

Really, since Collins joined the band, Genesis has been spectacular.From the Peter days, The Collins take over and Hackett hitting the road...................... "And Then There Were Three." Then Rutherford pulls a Collins and ends up playing Bass and Guitar. And they just kept putting out good stuff. Also Tony Banks is hot right now,Making covers of magazines on how much bread he's pulling in.

Such a pity Tony Banks was perhaps the one Genesis member with least success post-Genesis. He is undoubtedly an extremely professional and talented musician, and for me his sound was as much as contributory to the Genesis success as any other member of the group. My childhood was spent listening to great keyboard players form a wide range of musical styles, leaving an enduring influence on my musical likes. Rock on Mr Banks!

Having seen other good keyboard players posting videos playing Firth of Fifth it was nice to see some of it done by done by the man himself. I know from personal experience how difficult it is to play. Daryl's interpretation of the guitar solo was also excellent as he imposed his own personality on it while remaining loyal to the original melody.

I have to disagree about Daryl Stuermer "remaining loyal to the original." I would add "- just barely." To me, his "imposing his own personality on it" displays what I see as showboating, simply a flurry of maximum notes-per-second, running up and down the neck, incongruous with the Genesis classics - especially Steve Hackett's original parts, which are essential to Genesis sounding like Genesis.But somebody hired him for the job, so...
@BackLooking
@BackLooking 4 роки тому
I like the style of Steve´s playing but I like also how Daryl plays this solo. He plays much more modern and technical kind of solo here. And while I like the original for that delicateness and sound, I also like this one for the freshness and excitement. And I have to admit that I listen to the Daryl´s version more often. Also because even the drum parts improved since the 70s and the whole thing is more entertaining than before.

A beleza tá aí.
