I looked it up, and there were a number of people who contributed to the invention of the lithium ion battery, but it was Akira Yoshino with his invention of conductive polymers that brought the lithium ion battery into industrial production. Amazing guy! Very similar series of contributions that made L.A.S.E.R. possible. Amazing!

To add on a bit more, there is a dark side to patent law for sure. Legal battles with big monopolies over petty interpretations trying to stifle the smaller competition bringing their product licences to market are a reality as well. Anticompetitive practices are a reality without some kind of reform.

She means where it was going, and assumes your intellect and grasp of the language are sufficient to recognise she doesn't mean she accidentally invented flubber. When such idiosyncracies become too numerous to overlook in a community, we call this a "dialect". The English "half ten" is another example, as it is a truncation of "half past". To them, it is perfectly clear that half ten means 10:30, but in many nations half ten means halfway TO ten o'clock, meaning 09:30. Common mistake to make, mate. No worries

Not sure why they had to re invent the wheel with new types of breakwater protection . The Dolosse has been around for ages , after being designed by a South African , who got nothing for it . Made in the hundreds even in Taiwan . Has the odd shape needed for stability and resisting the waves . At least the new inventor has made some money . Did not see it compared to the Dolosse , bricks never worked !

My guess is that the Dolosse is more complicated and time consuming, and thus more expensive, to manufacture due to its more complex shape. For a product that is needed in the tens of thousands, that's an important factor to consider.

having invented and spent the 14k fee for a patent one learns they are useless. whomever has the most money wins. if 1 small thing in design is changed they will file their own then it is up to your team of lawyers. there are so many your lucky if you can make anything anymore without someone saying it was their idea and you owe them money.
@giggiddy
@giggiddy 5 місяців тому
Heck, they don't even go to the trouble to change anything anymore. Now they just outright copy your plans and start producing it. If you don't Ike it, you sue them. And pray you can recover your losses before going bankrupt. Then the one who stole your patent goes back to Isreal (in my case) and youre left with the mess while they do it to someone else all over again.

Remember also that black cabs start the meter when you phone order one, they turn on the meter before arriving, usually from accepting the call. Oyster card fare is better than cash, and there's daily caps, if you go multiple zones, do it all on the same day to make sure you don't upcharge to the next zone because of one round trip. Phone boxes are cheaper than hotel room phones if you are cell-less. In face before you go find out if the phone is restricted by your carrier and can work internationally as you can rent/purchase a sim card if it's better than what your carrier offers.

Patent is a what hold progress back, a lot of things we live on en depend on that is affordable by majority is not patented, but I do understand that the creators need to benefits from their research also. Imagine if Tim Lee patented internet, or Google didn't make Android open source, then only few would be able to watch this video.

How many people and businesses have gone out of their way to create things to profit off it, and help the world? If patents did not exist many wouldn't be have incentives to go out there to spend their time, money, and effort to create something better or new. The money generated then gives them wealth to put their minds into repeating the process. Sure there are issues with patents. Like those who sit on them, don't license, and especially those who file a million lawsuits to settle. Those later ones should be arrested and barred from convicting anyone from patent infringement for sure. Yet with all this said the benefits outweigh the risk.

I kinda agree patent law should be improved. Bare in mind patent law was created when a steam engine would be manufactured and used for the next 5 decades. Many designs now have a life cycle of a couple of years. Patent trolling, tweaking older patent to extend by another 24 years (80% of all new medicine patents), patenting old ideas in a new field ‐ yes you can question that but it's your money on the line.

A lot of things we take for granted where discovered by accident. Penicillin, the microwave, superglue, double sided tape, radio transmission without that no TV, steam engine where would we be without that, electricity and magnetism and gravity although always there was discovered by an apple falling on some guys head. Some of the more great inventions were down to scientists strung out on psychedelics of some form or another.

For someone to put smooth concrete blocks up in the first place didn’t make sense. We already know water can change a concrete structure so it would make sense to me if you want to put up concrete blocks not to make them smooth they could’ve mixed up concrete and put it down in between the smooth concrete blocks that make more sense to me.

I'm not sure I buy the cubic pod shape idea as innovation. It's just another shape that does the job and only time will tell how it weathers the storms. As an alternative I have seen 3D Y shaped breakwater shapes that have been for more than 40 years at the same spot and they still look pristine. Those Y shapes take far less concrete to make and if you are worried about CO2 you should use those instead. But those can't be patent protected, the shape is free for everyone to copy

Copyright and patents are the pinnacle of capitalism in my opinion. Not sure what to say on this one. It is great when those ideas are shared, in a way they actually are. Only somebody is able to reap those benefits from that invention. Some inventions, not all, take also a huge investment in order to realise it. Patents will invalidate over time. They drive the world forward. Personally I don't mind somebody is reaping some benefits. What I don't appreciate is silly patent war and people patenting melodies are stuff like that. All and all it's difficult discussion and everybody will something different on it. It basically is Capitalism vs Communism.
