@@StepladdertoSausage71Personally, I like it when comedians put aside their stage personas for moments like this. People complained that Feargal didn't contribute much, but what he said about this conflict, by bringing it home and talking about the peace in Northern Ireland was very important. Feargal has a perspective and insight that the others don't. I think that's why the producers of the show had him on in the first place.
@pipster18915 місяців тому
Sure, nice speech, but you're not getting peace there until you recognise the cause of conflict is Israel and the west stops supporting and arming it and forces it to stop doing what it's been doing for 70 years. In Northern Ireland there's no government because the Unionists refuse to accept democracy. What's the UK government doing about that? Nothing.

@garrick37275 місяців тому
Had he taken the hood off initially she would have said "Did I indicate taking the hood off?" It was clearly a no-win situation. The correct answer would be to ask because even if you get a snarky reply at least you pointed out that the instructions were ambiguous. Ambiguous instructions are very dangerous, so there's only so much criticism you can get for asking for clarification.
@richardh80825 місяців тому

25.27 - why did Zoe's. joke get more of a laugh after Paul stole it as his own? He even doubled down with his "why?why?" (the second why? why of the evening, coincidentally).
@Hexon665 місяців тому
First, he didn't steal the joke. She didn't make the crossing the road joke. Either, 1) she was too slow with her delivery (poor trade craft) or 2) all she had was "Why?" (fuzzy comedic instinct). Either case would mean Paul saved the day.
@miguelurdaci78845 місяців тому
@@Hexon66 I think there is truth in that. Maybe she didn't read the room well. I've been watching HIGNFY for 30 years and it gives a lot of insights into comedy. Very often, Paul gets laughs because he is Paul. He may have saved the day. But he definitely doubled down on it, for whatever reason (keep the show rolling ... a bit formulaic, perhaps). Audiences at comedy shows are a very odd creature.
@Otheheavychange5 місяців тому
The audience know Paul and his ways of bullying them into clapping or laughing or giving him credit for this or that. So sometimes they just perfunctorily give him what he wants to save time. He was pretty good in this show but I saw a more recent one where he clearly winces and frowns when he doesn't get the amount of laughs he thinks he deserves. To think this has been going on for more than a decade now...
@miguelurdaci78845 місяців тому
@@Otheheavychange Exactly!
@miguelurdaci78845 місяців тому
@@Otheheavychange I used to call it comedic bullying but it gets peoples' backs up as it seems a contradiction in terms (like nobody ever witnessed it at high school!!). In the early days, Ian and Paul had to work for their living, so it was forgivable, giving the show edge. Now the audience prefers the comfort of the familiar rather than edge, so they don't have to work for it now.

Fergal Sharkey way out of his depth with these chatterboxes. Luckily they let him have a prepared speech. Not sure the comparison between Northern Ireland and Gaza makes that much sense, since the total number of people killed in Northern Ireland over 100 years is basically a trying weekend in Gaza. I applaud the sentiment, but it's easy to say sitting comfortably 2000 miles away.

Unlike with Ukraine where the cause is pretty clear and it's easy to get aid and kits there (I've just donated money for a specialized vehicle and night vision drones), common Europeans are more or less powerless when it comes to Israel and Palestine. The situation is so hopeless that IMHO most people in the audience needed at least an image of peace, even though it doesn't mean much and it's easy to say.
