In fact, Sony has very advanced technology in regards to backlight scanning/strobing. On X95L you can have 120Hz backlight scanning with almost no brightness loss and it has the best motion compared to any Oled I've ever owned, almost crt-like (including a90j and a95k which didn't even allow 120Hz bfi, but only 60Hz with too much flicker and brightness loss). We know the QN90C has 720 zones in 65". And the X95L 65" has 480 zones. 3x480= 1440 zones. That is double the QN90C. Also, if you spend anywhere from $2,000 to $5,000 on a new TV and then say, "Oh, it will look right once you spend an extra $375 to have it professionally calibrated" I would have to ask you why? Why is it the customer's job/responsibility to have to go in and fix the mistakes made by the manufacturer, right out of the box? Why can't Samsung just get their colors right straight out of the box to begin with? Well, we all know why, don't we? Because their marketing strategy is largely predicated on colors that "pop" and catch customers eye while they are in shopping the stores. The problem is that over-saturated, over-boosted color presentation is far from accurate, authentic or realistic. Once customers get those TVs home and realize how unnatural things look on them, they don't feel quite so good about their purchase decision. The LG G4 will be substantially brighter with MLA in 83" for the first time this year. It will also likely have better processing than the A90J. But it won't have the higher color volume of the QD-OLED's. So the G4 would be your best bet in this year's tv's but if I was in your shoes, I'd keep holding out another year or two. By then we should have 3,000nit QD-OLED's in larger sizes that will really knock your socks off!

The year is 2024 and Sony still only has two HDMI 2.1 ports. ☠️

I guess they're meaning to say the PS5 and your earc sound are the only reason you'd need an HDMI 2.1 port.
@michaelbeckerman7532
@michaelbeckerman7532 14 днів тому
Again, that's MediaTek's fault, not Sony's. Sony sticks with the MediaTek SoC platform because it offers the best image processing for their XR processor technology. For now, Sony isn't willing to give up image processing ability/quality just to get two more HDMI 2.1 ports. Send your complaints on this over to the folks at MediaTek, not Sony.

I would have loved to see a Sony 83" with MLA or QD-OLED (yes I know Samsung isn't making them yet, but a fellow can dream). I won't be upgrading my A80J until there is an 83" or larger that smashes it to pieces and fits my budget.

Looks like I invested into OLED at the perfect time early last year with my C2. It's already on the way out and by the time I'm looking for my next TV there will be infinite contrast mini led and micro led TVs with 5x the brightness of an OLED and no burn in risk.

isnt color better on OLED? And isnt these brightness wars pointless like 4k nits is eye searingly bright. Sometimes my s89c which is only 1200nits makes me have to squint in certain HDR scenes. i cant imagine 4k nits

Ouch. I was hoping Sony was going to wage a 2-front battle with both a new LED panel of their own design (BRAVIA 9) and use Samsung Display's 3rd-gen QD-OLED for a new reference level OLED offering, but sadly it looks like they've decided to stop competing for the top spot for the best OLED TV, and let Samsung and LG eat their lunch. The reality is that until a LED FALD backlight has (at a minimum) over 100,000 zones, it can never come close to matching the native CR of an OLED, and the blooming is just horrible.
